  1. Or he "had balls"
  2. Isn't that the job of the 'experienced' mechanic? That would classify as a rude post Had the same experiences at most WELL KNOWN Pta bike shops till I came across West rand cycles in Krugersdorp- won't take my bike anywhere else now! If I were you I'd sommer name the idiot shop!
  3. Hey Kev, It just so happens that I also started off with Rockadile (2007) and had it for about a year. As you know its still got a coil suspension, so that was the first thing I upgraded on mine. Look out on the hub for a nice 2nd hand RST of Suntour hydrolic suspension- shouldn't break your budget at about R500, and its an easy DIY job. Once you're rolling a bit smoother on the suspension side- keep the bike standard and if you feel like it- do small upgrades like a smaller stem to fit your setup and maybe nice extras like bar-ends. If you enjoy riding for more than a year- its time to leave the Goose and move on! Hope it helps- have fun! PS duno how technical you are, but put as much work into the bike yourself- its an awesome bike to learn from- how stuff works
  4. When i started MTB i had no idea of prices and values on bikes and parts. Most of knowledge (?) i have accumulated comes from posts that advise a drop in price or alternatives when this/that is too expensive. In my humble opinion thehub is a place where riders help out one another as Wil6 said- so when i see something grossly overpriced- i will help out a prospective uninformed buyer AND the seller politely. (Cue campfire music and guy who can't play guitar...)
  5. Being at the University of Pta for a few years (too many) there was always a need for proofreaders for project reports. Try to contact as many tertiary institutions as possible to get on their "preferred proofreaders" list. Strongs!
  6. Maybe visit bhp biliton's site for vacancies- there was a ad in the Kimberley DFA a few days ago. Long shot, but try it
  7. Specialized Phenom with hollow Cr-Mo rails. Had one on my Silverback, now on my Spezzie as well. love it!
  8. Totally agree! But if looking to buy the Recon new - it's an all good suspension, if it can hold my buddy for 8 months (and counting) it can't be bad! (he's a 117kger)
  9. Thanx for the advice, will keep an eye out for the Cervelo on theHub and other sites.
  10. THanx for the help gents! i'll do some reading and calling
  11. This any good? http://www.buycycle.co.za/buycycles/road-bikes/eddy-merckx-en-2/eddy-merckx-afx-1-road-bike-eddy-merckx.html
  12. Hi, I'm a avid MTBer and are up to date with everything that is needed to ride the heavy ones. Problem is- the girlfriend is a triathlete and wants a road bike for the task (slicks on the mtb apparently dont cut it no more! I'm not looking for a triathlon specific bike, just a normal roadbike. My limit is R10k and it needs to be a brand new bike. Where do i start? The fork? the drivetrain? what's good, what's bad? Good shops around PTA/Joburg? Any advice will be helpfull. Thanks much.
  13. hahaha! early morning amusement thannks to a lost tube. The laugh alone is worth about R100. PS the tube is not in Roodepoort, checked the drive way just now!
