  1. I guess each to his own, but last year we had one change of clothing at Checkpoint 4. Dressed fresh and warm for the Big Dipper. We sent our lights to #3 as we were on a 18hr plan and knew that we would hit #3 at about 4/5 'o clock. Sure, you can send clothing to more checkpoints and have it with your support too...Finished in just under 17 hours but this year will definately be a longer haul, not close to the same fitness(or lack of).
  2. Think Willowmore is full. Might still be available in Uniondale, they opened up their 'koshuis'. Numbers on the website.
  3. Yip, you're allowed to finish but cannot continue on your own in that you have to hook up with other riders. Your team will not appear on the 'official' finishing list but individual riders will be credited seperately.
  4. 'Bad' road conditions will only add to the challenge, although I hope some of the debris is cleared up as per Alex Harris' post... Can't wait, just 6 weeks to go!!!
  5. Yup, entries close when they reach 400 teams, last year this was round about 20 July, don't know where they are at numbers wise... No transport service to the finish, you use your support vehicle for that. No shuttle back to Willowmore as far as I know.
  6. As always, each to his own...Last year I did my first TB. At that point I've been cycling for about 9 months. I did 3 spinning classes a week and tried to get in a longish(longest was 120km once) ride over the weekend, starting about 3 months prior to the event. We were all novices and I was probably the weakest in the team. We finished in just under 17hrs...So, if you just wanna finish, TB is do-able and you'll even enjoy it!!! As in previous post we also spent some 2.5hrs at the checkpoints
  7. We like to get value for our money Spent about 2.5hrs at the checkpoints, finished just before 03.00. Wind was a howler from the side and at some sections from the front all the way up the Neverender!!!
  8. We had quite an hectic wind on Neverender, this was between 1-2 in the morning, you guys were probably sound asleep by then!
  9. Aish, looks like we will just have to do the camping thing then...Will keep looking though. Please let me know if anyone comes across something in the meantime.
  10. Hi guys, what do you recommend accommodation wise for six people(if anything left)...We camped last year at Finchley Farm but I've been voted out on that, the others want to sleep on a bed for some reason...
  11. 16hrs? Spud / DT ?
  12. Can't wait!!!
  13. Very cool!!!
  14. I have also had similar issues...Problem was diagnosed as weak muscles on one side as well as some alignment/posture issues. Did some strength exercises to rectify that problem and now also do a lot more stretching. Have also had a session at a chiropractor to sort out the alignment issues. Have not had any problems since, as long as I keep to my stretches. I also stretch during races whenever I feel a niggle...Then again, I ride and dont really race, so that is not an issue
  15. Thanks for the Dirt-Rider!!! Skaap, dit sal ek smaak. Gaan 'n paar Rame kos oor die lange duur maar ek dink dis die ding om te doen...
  16. Any comments by some Anthem owners / those in the know? From what I've found on the interweb it sounds like I can't go wrong with an Anthem 1 Hopefully me and wapad can do a deal...
  17. Thanks, I've dropped you a mail for the pics...
  18. Saw those, those prices are actually unbelievable!!! HUGE discounts, unfortunately do not have that kind of cash and they were mostly mediums, would have to be a large.
  19. Thanks, think it will be a nice project to get into, and I can do the build as I get the bucks...
  20. Hi All, any comments/suggestions welcome... Have been thinking of getting a dual sus for a while now. Love the hardtail and have spent countless happy hours on it, but have been battling in some races to keep up with the duals on the downhills and the 6km odd of 'graspol' riding they love to take us over...My hardtail is kitted with XT all round except for the SLX crankset, 100mm Tora fork, all still in good nic. Should I spend some money and look for a dual sus frame and rear shock and build, rather save some more and buy a 'full' bike(new or used) and still keep the HT or scrap the idea and just enjoy my HT. Also, I'm not too competitive, think the dual sus will be more for comfort than me worried about speed and keeping up in races...
  21. Doesn't surprise me at all.
  22. Sorry to hear that. Well, with the mud I think your 68km equals a normal dry 90km anyway!
  23. Agree on that singletrack Loved the bit along the railwayline as well, was raining at the time and I had this stupid little grin of joy on my face Well done to Craig & Kelly for a slick event!!!
  24. Well done Tim & Spas!!!
  25. What a mission!!! Was a great ride though, loved every bit of it and thoroughly enjoyed the route and even the mud & rain. Battled with my recurring knee problems which started recurring after 30km's and I had to stop about every 10mins after that to stretch...Mud and clay was hectic, clogged 3 times to the point where the wheels couldn't turn from all the mud. Loved the potatoes & mieliebrood at the waterpoints.Limped over the finishline at about 7hrs...Will definately ride again
