  1. Great result! My legs really felt the mtb race during the first 10km or so on Sunday and then especially on the last 20km with the 'hills'.
  2. Thats a good time riding from J!!! Nope, I rode from D. 'Mansgenoeg deur Jesus' kit, grey with a red cross on it, riding a silver Rellie You might have ridden with/away from some of the other guys from our 'club'.
  3. What group,we might have ridden together? Also did a 3.04 on the road and managed a 2.45 for the mtb. Legs a bit sore today...

    SunScreen!

Buz Luhrman has this as a song?
  5. Apologies, didn't know they were a week apart at the 94.7. Used to be the same weekend or am I mistaken? In that case, do both for sure!!!
  6. I think there are quite a lot of riders who do the 25km mtb(keeps the legs loose) and then the 94.7 the next day. The OFM is my local race and I do the 65km mtb and the 99km road, nice time in the saddle...Find it difficult however to pace the mtb and have enough left for the next day...
  7. ...and there's a small town called Stellenbosch where you can get lost/sloshed for 3 days/weeks...

    Bloemfontein OFM

Will be doing both the 'long' mtb & road again this year. I think the 'hills' now being closer to the end on the road race will surely test the legs a bit more...Hope the wind doesn't get going like its been doing the last couple of weeks.
  9. I've got a 2005 RC8000, plain silver frame also MS 'branded'.Think these are either 2004 or 2006. Obviously I might be wrong...
  10. How does 22hours grab you? Think we were the 2nd or 3rd last team to check in just before 08.00 in J-Bay. The route was seriosly tough and we were hit by numerous mechanical and other problems. We also hooked up with another team of 3 so eventually had a 7-man team we all wanted to get to the finish. We had 2 chain breaks in the first 15km's, another after CP3, 3 punctures, aboout 6 falls(one being at night and the rider breaking all his lights) and various other things. When we got to CP1 there was nothing left which caused some energy problems for some guys leading up to CP2. All-in-all an awesome experience, great scenery, but very tough...
  11. Dit lyk vir my so, tussen checkpoint 4 & 5.
  12. I think everyone will be disappointed, but as stated by Wikus rider safety is paramount. I was looking forward to the adventure of all the watercrossings as I've only done last year which was apparently very dry. But, crossing a 1-1.5m deep river at night carrying your bike above your head is probably not the safest thing in the world, and when things go wrong it would be difficult for support to get to the rider. It will still be an amazing ride and the MAC 'replacement' looks like a killer. Obviously the new route alters the planning a bit as to what to send where etc. but it will be a great new adventure for us all. Still can't wait
  13. Looks like there will be some water added to the already saturated ground this weekend as well...
  14. Have also missed the last 2-3 weeks training due to flu. Yip, 18hrs is our goal and anything quicker will be a bonus. Have to save my legs a bit as well as I'm leaving for Russia on the Monday for some mountaineering...
  15. Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog (Chris Cornell & early Pearl Jam)
  16. There are usually a lot of support vehicles with 2 or 3 people in them and all the support drivers usually go through to J-Bay and spend the day there until they have to meet up with the teams at Komdomo. I'm sure there will be someone who will be wlling(if you can trust them) to drive your car through for you.
  17. I guess each to his own, but last year we had one change of clothing at Checkpoint 4. Dressed fresh and warm for the Big Dipper. We sent our lights to #3 as we were on a 18hr plan and knew that we would hit #3 at about 4/5 'o clock. Sure, you can send clothing to more checkpoints and have it with your support too...Finished in just under 17 hours but this year will definately be a longer haul, not close to the same fitness(or lack of).
  18. Think Willowmore is full. Might still be available in Uniondale, they opened up their 'koshuis'. Numbers on the website.
  19. Yip, you're allowed to finish but cannot continue on your own in that you have to hook up with other riders. Your team will not appear on the 'official' finishing list but individual riders will be credited seperately.
  20. 'Bad' road conditions will only add to the challenge, although I hope some of the debris is cleared up as per Alex Harris' post... Can't wait, just 6 weeks to go!!!
  21. Yup, entries close when they reach 400 teams, last year this was round about 20 July, don't know where they are at numbers wise... No transport service to the finish, you use your support vehicle for that. No shuttle back to Willowmore as far as I know.
  22. As always, each to his own...Last year I did my first TB. At that point I've been cycling for about 9 months. I did 3 spinning classes a week and tried to get in a longish(longest was 120km once) ride over the weekend, starting about 3 months prior to the event. We were all novices and I was probably the weakest in the team. We finished in just under 17hrs...So, if you just wanna finish, TB is do-able and you'll even enjoy it!!! As in previous post we also spent some 2.5hrs at the checkpoints
  23. We like to get value for our money Spent about 2.5hrs at the checkpoints, finished just before 03.00. Wind was a howler from the side and at some sections from the front all the way up the Neverender!!!
  24. We had quite an hectic wind on Neverender, this was between 1-2 in the morning, you guys were probably sound asleep by then!
  25. Aish, looks like we will just have to do the camping thing then...Will keep looking though. Please let me know if anyone comes across something in the meantime.
