  3. I was thinking I might give it a shot this year.....come BB lets do it and then do Illovo the week after
  4. Just don't take holy as your team mate he's fragile......
  5. I phoned him on Fri to ask about timing and he told me there will be no timing. I still decided to do it and had to count the chicks in front of me to guess where I was sitting. I enjoyed it besides the tar, &%*R%$($ pavements and super super bumpy terrain. I am not sure it was worth the R100 though.....
  6. You don't remember....? Geez....considering how much you complained....whine whine whine! This was why we had the whole tyre vs root discussion....you prolly don't remember that either? It was I who said that there isn't really a tyre that can handle a slippery root. It's all technique! Think you're gonna need a refresher course since you seem rather forgetful lately Pls.....I complained cos SAA bent my frikkin hanger and I had no gears.... But yeah I probably came close to kissing a few roots....they were so inviting after all And I know it was you who said that.....I can insert your name in the story if you'd like..... "Technical pro and master of wet roots Mint Sauce says that 'no tyre can really handle this particular obstacle 100%' "
  7. you didn't..... Dankie vir jou ongelooflike' date=' behulpsame bydrae to hierdie gesprek....Pop! [/quote'] You practicing improving your English again?
  8. After being laughed at for keeping my std "I come with new Merida bikes" tyres for 6 months, I decided it is time I made a move and got myself new ones. Especially since a mud event was on the horizon. Some research and lots of questions asked, I seemed to stop my wondering eye on some Schwalbe tyres. After 20min of grueling testing of a certain sales person's knowledge about the tyres they stocked, the choice seemed clear.....well almost I had to double check that his recommendation is indeed a good one - Jimmy on the front and a Smart Sam on the back. A few days later the purchase was made and I was on my way to muddy Knysna. As I do live in Johannesburg, I needed a combo that was going to be able to handle our conditions most importantly and yet still be able to get me through the last 10km of the Knysna race. A weekend of riding saw me test them over tar, leaves and what not found in the forest, small animals and children found on steep hills (just kidding), mud, some very slippery roots and loose rocks and concrete. I was still not satisfied completely with my tests so after my return to homey Johannesburg I took my bike to some familiar and some not so familiar routes. Some included already tested terrain of rocks and stones but the twist was the incredible sand dunes I managed to ride through this Sunday. Not that they can anyway compete with the Lion Man/ Mabalingwe 1km of dessert but still. Observations: 1. Tar - They handled as good as I can imagine, my Smart Sam has an almost continuous thread, which I have noticed is a common occurrence in slick tyres, so it gave me no problems. It did give a couple of guys problems on the other hand, as they struggled to keep up with me. 2. Forrest floors - My tyres and me loved this course. I felt like a little kid on Christmas morning and did not hide it. I was flying past people and experienced no problems in doing so. 3. Mud - ah the one thing I was worried about. 7-8km of it before the end saw me go through deep mud and besides minor sliding on the back I have no complains. No caked up mud on these babies. The Jimmy just cut through it all. 4. Damp Roots - Well a challenge indeed. Combining recently developed technical skills with never ridden over so many roots before made this a bit tricky. I was given instructions and some tips before we took on the Red route and I was careful. The day saw me come close to a wipe out a few times but the tyres had nothing to do with it - I am told that no tyre can really handle this particular obstacle 100% 5. Loose Rocks/Concrete - A race up some rocky hill, made me feel at home and again the Schwalbe combo had my approval. 6. Technical rock sections - Whether it was the quite fast pace i was trying to keep, or love for rocks I cannot tell but no upsets here. 7. Climbs with deep loose sand and rocks - Now.....this is my major upset. I was not happy with the performance of my Smart Sam on this. Let say it did some stupid things. Sliding underneath me, dragging me down. I felt I was losing control of my bike half the time and my arms had to work extra hard. I had to unclip on a few occasions as otherwise I was going down. Conclusions As a set, and based on my limited riding skills I have to give a 7.5/10 rating where the Jimmy performed excellent and the Smart Sam did a mediocre job. I might be too harsh on it as without trying to brag I do not weigh too much and there might not be enough pressure on the back to keep it more steady. Who knows I might just be mistaken on this....
  9. I use Schwalbe tyres.... Of course I am not a top notch pro so I find them decent enough. Got a Jimmy on the front and a Smart (stupid) Sam on the back. A month or so after I bought them I wrote an amateur review....if anyone likes to read what I thought of them...
  10. you didn't.....
  11. Ok so I just read the article on chainwheel and this sounds really cool. So I think I'm gonna go do it....
  12. Lately I am finding it really hard to brake on my rd bike. It is a bit of a problem when you doing 50km on a downhill and you have to turn at the bottom. Add to that rain and wet roads and it becomes a really big problem. Another thing (and trust me I don't need to start another Shimano vs whatever else is out there topic) is that if I rest my hands on top of my levers in order to be ready to brake I feel like I'd slip off and end up tangled into my front wheel. Point here is I have unresponding brakes and it's worrying me. I could come up with 3 possible solutions but as I am a funrider I am not in the know on topics like these. So 1) there's something wrong with my levers, not working properly or not in the right position or who knows.... 2) I may need new brake pads or something (although I looked this morning while washing off all the sand and mud and whatever else and they seemed ok) and 3) It's me.....AGAIN.....weak hands, small hands, unskilled..... I had a similar problem when I got my dual controls on my MTB. Similar but not exactly the same. Where on my MTB I felt my hands were too small and I couldn't press hard enough, the problem eventually disappeared as I got used to them and now I love them. But here I don't think it's a matter of getting used to the STI levers as I've ridden with them for months now. Any input by the skilled?bored girl2008-01-25 03:14:17
  13. Thanks for the reminder....this was hilarious I can imagine I still have a pink spot on my knee and it's almost 2 months down the line now
  14. Decided not to. Saving my money for races I know I can at least perform Sorry but R165 is a lot for me to do a race.... then I have to organise someone to fetch me and lastly not exactly my type of race. What I heard about it it's too flat and fast and that's a problem for me....I'd get dropped and then kill myself trying to catch up to some group that would drop me again as soon as I make it to them.... So gonna sleep late instead bored girl2008-01-23 05:40:45
  15. You guys are just so so funny But I am not even gonna comment on the chainprotector thing.....I wash it and make it sparkly every time I clean my bike just so you know it's still there. And I am a fun rider......I only ride on weekends (and it's like every 2nd weekend now), I fall off my bike while attempting to do U turns at the parking lot/areas where lots of people pass by so not hurt by those remarks at all
  16. When did you get a SC Para???
