  1. Here's mine (1997 Technos)
  2. Chill dude, go read your own posts again. Anyway, as I said in my first reply, get the shifters.
  3. Hmm, SkyLark, methinks you're more interested in bling than tech. Buy the RD if that will make you feel better about your bike. But if you want the ZAR you spend to make a real difference to your ride, spend it on the contact points, i.e. the shifters in this case. And as I said earlier, first check out the XT kit - you may be able to get shifters and RD for the price of one of the XTR components and the functionality will be very close to XTR. And you'll solve a bit of your bling problem as well
  4. I have the 2011 XTR shifters with a 2011 XT RD. I picked XTR for the shifters because they have three cool features: 1. direct shift (the RD moves with the push, not the release of the upshift lever) 2, dual upshift action (trigger or thumb-push) 3. the ability to upshift one or two gears at a time. Perhaps the 2012 XT shifters will do all this too (the 2011 don't) but I love my XTR shifters. They are smooth yet crisp and never mis-shift. The ability to be able to upshift (move to heavier gear) with either the trigger action or the SRAM-like thumb-push action with the same upshift lever is awesome - I use them alternatively depending on my hand position and the conditions. Then, the ability to upshift two gears at a time immediately with one push is supercool e.g. if you've just crested a rise and want to keep hammering without waiting for the 4 clicks (in-out + in-out) that it would take with a cheaper lever to move two gears. So, you guessed it, get the levers. Or, if XT will do all the above, you may just get both a RD and shifters for the price of XTR shifters, in which case i'd do that.
  5. You can't use 26" hubs on 29" wheels - they turn too quickly
  6. Agreed, but then you drop a few clangers yourself - it's "For God's sake..." Also try some capitalisation.
  7. If your bike fit is good, there is no reason to stay away from cycling. It will help strengthen your back, not hurt it. In my experience with lower back pain, there is no short cut. You have to strengthen your core. Chiropractic adjustments have also helped me immensely. So: 1. get a pro bike fit done (try Jeroen Swart at the Sports Science Institute) 2. go to Pilates classes at least twice a week 3. see a Chiro every couple of months to stay aligned Good luck! By the way, we're cyclists, not cyclers
  8. +1 CO2 canisters are an environmental disaster and turn your Stans sealant into a useless gooey blob.
  9. Enduren rocks. I know the guy who developed it and he did his homework. Very particular about it being natural and high quality. That said, I would not give it to my kid for all the reasons in the video I posted above. Give your son bananas and water - that's what I learned to race on.
  10. Sad post - condolences to the family. My dad died of a heart attack going up Suikerbossie on his bike while training for the Argus in 1990. He was 48. I still think of him every time I ride up there myself. If he had to go, it was a "good" way, but our family was devastated all the same. At least there's no one to hate for it (except God I suppose...).
  11. Agree, great ride, awesome single track, thanks Geddan!
  12. LOL!
  13. Ok, here goes: If you want it done right, do it yourself!
  14. Connex. Nice powerlink too. Never had an issue with mine.
  15. Sorry, but I just don't get the whole "fixie" scene, especially "bikes" like this that desecrate the once-holy ground of a classic manufacturer. I used to own a Pinarello Montello SLX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinarello) which I loved. I am abhorred by what has happened to Pina of late. First the stupid squiggly seat stays and fork and now this. I suppose it's what happens when a once-great company gets taken over by the marketing dept. In my opinion, if you really want a fixie, build it yourself from your parts bin - no self-respecting cyclist will want to be seen within shouting distance of you on that Pinarello ... erm, thing (there just is no word for it).
  16. My Niner... has an XT grouppo on it now, but still has the sweet rigid fork.
  17. OMG, it could not be uglier even if my two year-old puked on it
  18. Racing Ralph, Racing Ralph, Racing racing racing Ralph... Nuff said.
  19. - he means Niner as in www.ninerbikes.com. I have one - after 22 years of mountain biking I fell in love again... 2.5x, 4.7x, whatever man,....
  20. http://www.discovery.co.za/email_za/mailers/pdfs/general/noakes.pdf
  21. I'll be there
  22. Tell you what - while you wait for the downhills at Tokai to spontaneously mutate to your liking, why don't you work on your grammar and spelling (and perhaps even your attitude while you're at it).
  23. I understand but I disagree 'cause it does not make sense.
  24. I agree - ascenders must absolutely give way to descenders. If i'm ripping down a singletrack it's much harder for me to change my line than someone crawling up it in their granny gear.
