  2. will do it during the week and again every few days
  3. Had a fire in a place few doors from Revolution. Chatted with he dude with the tattoos. Asked for stickers and got a bunch. For free. Cool shop.
  4. This is what I do at work. Not the crashing part, but the cutting out and the patching up, and the picking up of the pieces part. Heavy stuff. Any driver who is aggressive, in our case towards cyclists, should be shown this short clip and then asked if perhaps they can alter their behavior from self centered to accommodating? Or would they prefer the other ending; the one where the rider lays in a pool of blood, dying, leaving loved one's behind in pain and confusion and fear, while the driver sinks deeper and deeper into a state of catatonic shock, not even beginning to comprehend the outcome of their bad driving decision/
  5. ok so like a few days ago, on my way to the fire station in town, I saw a dude pushing what looked like a specialized tarmac up Belevue Drive. Pushing!!! So maybe it is pretty damm steep! Also, we had a fire in Hout Bay in the week. Our engines were positioned at the top of Blue Valley Avenue. (Off Constantia Nek, into Bokkeman's Kloof) to protect houses. This was the first time I had seen this interesting little climb, in sectioned ramps, and with a surface that might be challenging for traction, especial in the wet. I plan to ride it soon as this Cape rain buggers off.
  6. I wonder if the wheels of the Universe are puncture resistant?
  7. You know Karma is a funny old thing. No one escapes it. Throw a drawing pin in the hope it causes a negative outcome for someone (wrong thought, wrong action) and that must come back again. One puncture for the rider, and maybe a car tyre puncture for the thrower. If no lesson is learned and the person throws more pins, perhaps the next Karmic reaction is a car crash for the thrower. Ans so on and so forth. Stick with the legal response and let Karma take care of the rest. Ps. The wheels of the universe grind exceedingly slow, but they grind exceedingly fine.
  8. Glad it was not too serious Spat. Cape Town drivers are, "Like, Bru, shoo man, I did'nt see you there." Was nearly taken out by a truck last week. Then had words with a gentleman who swore at me on the main road. He backed down, but I will only ride today again. 6 days off the bike just to shake that bad adrenal buzz off. Good mental healing to you.
  9. I wish I could do a race that had a 20k climb in it. Just for once to see if climbing means more than just a short anaerobic burst.
  10. Bellevue is a killer of a hill! Especially when wet. RIDE ROUTE Link a ride from the Waterfront Entrance - up Long Street and (L) into Orange Street. ® into the Vredehoek area and then just follow a left hand rule till you get to Bellevue. You ride right along the urban fringe through some of the Cities older suburbs. Check out the Deer Park Drive Roads on your way. Up Bellevue (I s**t myself everytime as I come around the corner and see this hill) then into Kloof Nek. To the top then turn (L) into Tafelburg Road. Continue along same till the boom (If you brave ride around it or dismount) carry on till the tar ends and the dirt begins. Take a moment to admire the view - it is outstanding!! Then head back down Tafelburg - smile at the tourists. Then up and onto Signal Hill. Ride to the end, turn and keep the momentum for a flying ride back down and into Camps Bay Drive, then to the Camps Bay Beach front. Cruise back along the Atlantic Seaboard to the start at the V&A. Not so many Kays but some very nice climbing. It is especially good early in the morning (5:30am start time to be up on the mountain as the sun rises.)
  11. Ata boy RudoJ thats the way to just totally disarm the car and its driver of any malicious and evil after effects. Laugh it off. Ride away. Live to ride another day. (I say that but I actually tried to break a taxi drivers window with my hand the other morning after he super-aggressively pulled over in front of me - pretty much the same way that killed the guy up-country. I tuned him WTF? He tried to push me over with his door. I hit the door closed back onto him, hoping to smash the glass. He made like to pull out a gun or a knife, so I buggered off.) But then I laughed..
  12. if you can manage to get Quick7 to ride at a social pace then you have achieved something cause damm that dude is fast on a bike! DC training gotta start soon? Ya shoulda done the 1 toner Quick7, you woulda liked it... freaking hot and rolling.
  13. Hope you get to make lotsa sexy time with her.
  14. Just spoke to a mate who reckons Roadies will never get up Price Drive as fast as a Mountain Biker. WTF???
  15. Man I wish I head the leg muscles of some of the euro-pro guys we see in the podium pics.
  16. The potential for rookie cops allowing the situation (The sudden power of the Uniform)to get the better of their judgment definitely exists so its best just to put a s**t eating grin on yer face, say as little as possible, look ahead, and get the ****outta there as quickly as possible. Stow the ego. Keep the mouth shut. Keep the eyes fixed on a point. Smile. Leave.
  17. @ Tarmac-SL3If you find it please send it to me. I rode today from blue route up towards the Manor House but hang a left at the Y-junction. To the top of that little climb, then out towards Constantia Nek and Price Drive. Then the rolling short hills in the green belt around the Alphen. 2 hours of hilly riding. Very nice to do this also after a long ride or before heading out over Ou Kaapse Weg.

  19. You know what? At the end of the day, if you are legal, sober, licensed, etc then you actually have nothing to worry about. And, we know that we as cyclists are often the ones taken out by these drunk drivers. And even drunk pedestrians. So maybe lets stop moaning and just carry on regardless.
  20. Ever heard of Price Drive? This short (appx 3 - 4 k) hill is situated just off Constantia Road, Cape Town. It is steep, very steep, with three main ramped sections to test your legs and your mental resolve. Tge flattish sections between the ramps are just long enought to get over the shock of the last ramp, and to prepare for the next one. Any idea of the gradients? And, the ADT guard will give you a driving escort all the way to the top, then wait to see you down again . Makes sense; of course the cyclist intends riding away with a plasma TV or two tucked under the jersey. Price Drive. Try it. You might like it!
  21. @ chris w 65 - Now this is THE F****ING absolute best point i.e your comment that pedestrians should be tested. I respond to many, many, many idiots who have been knocked down by motor vehicles. Especialy in the city area (Cape Town). The average pedestrian in these times has the road sense of a Goat! They do not look before crossing. They do not look while crossing. And, when drunk, generally have no idea of what hit them. As in the freaking hard surface of a car, and then the tar, leaving a sober driver to be seen as the protagonist. Perhaps it can be a case of hit and then test.. with a foot in the face!
  22. This is good news! People who believe they can take, take, take may now have to give something back; their freedom. Thieves suc!
  23. @ Sammajoor ... Looks like you drank something goooooood!!
  24. I agree 100%. In that when the Cape Town Moya @ Spier first opened and few knew about it, it rocked! One year later I asked the waiter if I should pay extra for the sand in my salad. My sarcasm was lost on him. (He was white so don't even try go there ok?) There's a place in Gugs. Go there.
  25. Have you tried the "Sell a Kidney" hotline? 0800webuyyourbeans112233. T's & C's apply.
