Try for 15hours per week on the bike. Mix up fast and slow, flat and hilly rides. Eat like a horse (but eat right). Don't stand if you can sit, don't sit if you can lie down. Ride 6 days a week, no matter what the weather. Wear calf length socks. I did this for a whole two weeks and I got so fast my mouth got dry and I was forced to stop and drink. So I drank beer. And lots of it. The only part I got 100% right was the laying down part. Lucky for me I chose a spot just off the M3 freeway where the trees keep the midday sun off the face, but not off the other bergies sleeping there. I made friends with one called Pieter. He farted. Alot. But he was willing to share his box wine. When I woke up my bike was gone. My mouth felt like cork. My head hurt. I walked home and decided that for my next ride I would just cruise and enjoy the wind on my face and not the wind from Pieter the bergie.

Ride is super smooth and stiff, and it corners like it is hugging the camber of the road. You may be able to work out a better deal...

that is the truth! dishonest dealers can catch unsuspecting buyers. and salespeople who care more for the buck than the ride will find any way to move stock. I know many smaller, underground surfboard shapers can easily supply boards that ride perfecty but cost less than "known" brands boards. Can this carry over into the bike frame market?

after sales service is also something to consider. But I believe that big advertisments also mean bigger costs for the consumer; and that sometimes a smaller, lesser known brand may be a big score.

Wow! I think it may have been a 7 speed. And with the "mix" I upgraded (ha ha ha) to an 8 speed cassete. Then the next year I got 105 STI. Man I was styling. No more index down tube shifting. That whole techy cockpit look made my day.

when I first got into cycling - 15 years back (with a long lay off) I got a cannandale frame - a 2 series I think - and mixed campy record with shimano 105. (sorry all you purists - I was a rookie!!!!) Actually did my first Argus with downtube shifters. All you need is a skilled mechanic who can think outside the box. Good luck.
