  1. Is it possible to buy the F4 or F3 frame by itself?
  2. Wow pretty unanimous... cool
  3. Which is a better buy - Stevens Vuelta or Felt F4? both are about R17 / 18k. or is there something else that i should be considering? When is the best time of the year to buy a bike? Are dealers more willing to negotiate during winter wen (i assume) people arent buying as many road bikes or should i wait for the 2008 bikes to come out? Thanks
  4. Hey So i lost my sunglasses in a crash on sunday... and now i need new ones:) can someone point me in the right direction for some good looking, shatterproof glasses... looking to spend around R600 but fairly flexible. Any that i should avoid altogether? Chris
  5. Hey willpower i take it you ride for UCT?
  6. Just to see how many there were...
  7. k thanks that would make sense
  8. Does anyone know where the times were measured from yesterday? They said go and then after around a 1 min of riding we went over a set of timing mats. At the "real" finish there some white things that looked like timing mats, but there were also timing mats 20 meters later? Which were the ones used for calculating times? from very beginning to the finish line my time was the same as on the cycle tour website, but lots of people i know had their time's changed... so wats happening? (i hope that post made sense...)chris4142007-03-12 07:52:27
  9. Hey guys To take 1 bike company for example: The Felt F4 is a full carbon frame with ultegra weighing 8kg and costs R18000. Their F55 is uluminium frame with durace weiging 8.1kg and costs R16500. Why should I spend an extra R1500 when all im getting is 100g off the weight and a worse groupset? Is carbon fibre vs aluminium really worth that much when the weights are so close anyway? Chris
  10. rain spider in my bathroom this morning - not a good omen.... i'll celebrate about the weather wen im finished...
  11. with the types of ppa races we hav in cape town (ie. no huge 800m climbs), is it better to buy a pair of reasonably light deep section wheels or sum climbing specific wheels? (obviosly both would be nice but lets say for arguments sake you can only own 1 pair)chris4142007-03-06 00:59:08
  12. Hey guys Does anyone who got between 3h00 and 3h15 for last years argus have a Polar or (preferably) Garmin file you can send me of your 2006 argus (.gpx / .hrm / .watever)? I want to compare times that other people got last year to see how accurate the split time calculator on the cycle tour website is. Would you mind emailing to me or uploading to this site? Thanks alot, Chris chrislinegar@gmail.com
  13. Thanks guys I thought at first that my HRM strap had slipped so i did it again and out of 6 measurements, 3 of them dropped into the low 30s for the same amount of time at roughly the same time of night. I think its unlikely that if i was getting messed up readings that it would drop to same values (ie. it didnt go down to like 25bpm...) lol im 17...
  14. Hey I've been wearing my HRM while sleeping the last week as ive been sick and need to check wen im ready to go back... one thing i noticed though is that on a couple nights i get this random HR drop into the 30s for like 5min and then its back up again? Whats up with this? does this mean my resting HR is in the low 30s? And its not like im a superhuman athlete either... Chris
  15. At least if the frame breaks and gets replaced every 6 months you can be sure to have a scratch-free frame... chris4142007-02-23 01:05:27
  16. Just out of interest, does raleigh have a life time guarentee on its frames?
  17. how accurate do you find the argus split time calculator on their website? do you find you go faster/slower on the hills than the estimated times?
  18. I just bought an edge 305 a couple weeks ago... i heard that it was possible to use the argus split time calculator on their website and then download the course (with times to checkpoints, etc) to the gps. So far i havnt been able to find a "download" button on the split time calculator.... am i being blind/stupid? does such a thing even exist? thanks Chris
  19. and how much do a reasonable pair of deep sections cost (bearing in mind that my bike would prolly be worth 12 - 15k so im not gonna go and spend 10 grand per wheel...)?
  20. Hey lets say i have 15 grand to spend on a bike. is it better to spend less on a new bike and buy an extra set of deep section wheels, or is it better to spend the whole 15k on the bike alone (and not buy deep section wheels)? i supose wat im asking is what is the value of deep section wheels relative to your frame/compenents? thanks chris
  21. i see in my email it says when they do the final seeding run my seeding might drop by 1 or 2 groups... how likely is this really?
  22. So is it better to take daily supplements or just after hard training sessions to aid recovery?
  23. Hey Lots of people from other sports use protein to build strength, etc but i rarely hear about its use in cycling... Does using protein supplements improve cycling performance or does it just create bulk that ends up weighing you down? How long do you have to use protein before you start to see improvements (if any?) assuming that you are still following a regular training plan? Chris
  24. um why not just submit to motionbased.com? then we can download to our gps's (tho supose you would hav to use garmin).
  25. Hey guys So is it possible to import data from a garmin 305 into the polar training software? (Preferably from the device directly, but not necessarily essential) Chris
