I think its cause we took a photo of us riding on an empty chapmans peak that caused the Taxi to run over the 2 pedestrians and then the traffic island and lights.

Some of the worst street design in Cape Town. Good luck and God speed to those that ride in those bike lanes. That intersection is also very tricky for cars, the robots have been replaced since the new intersection 4 times after a weekend driver has wrapped their car around it.

I have been run over by 2 drivers on their phones while commuting to work and been clipped by a driver who was over taking another car on a blind corner and had a car wing mirror clip me when it realised there was another car coming. So I have have come close to death while sitting single file on my own. I have had no such issues while riding in large groups. Sorry, just a little worked up. Thank you for passing vulnerable road users safely.

Yes, if you dont "own the road" you get run over and die here in Cape Town. Obviously when it is safe to do so we move over, but when a car approaches a cyclist they dont think, is it safe to over take on this blind corner and they just carry on. When a car comes around that blind corner, they do not slow down or brake, they just move into the cyclist. If cars treated all cyclists like the other road users they are, we would not have to take the lane.

Cyclists should not be on the roads at call and should just Zwift, then drivers dont have to think about anyone else. Cant kill someone that is not there.

My view is a cyclist action makes no difference to drivers. Haven been hit by cars when obeying the law and doing nothing wrong I chose not to die, if this means taking the lane so drivers have to use their brains so be it. Thoughts and prayers for the drivers having to actually follow the rules.

So sick of this ****. This is the problem. What entitlement is there with drivers and free flowing traffic?? Are you serious, when you sit in traffic in your car and not free flowing, you dont ram the car in front of you! A cyclist is part of the traffic, if you cannot pass safely, then you dont pass. This right here is the root of the problem of terrible drivers. I hope you drive better than this, as this is poor. Cyclists dont need educating, riding along a road, the d1ck in a car does not want to be slowed down so will pass when illegal to do so, then stop with the other plonkers in cars 100m ahead while the cyclists breeze past. Some good news, after 3 weeks of riding almost every day, the bike rack at Kittels school is now full (Not very big) and the 4 year olds play school now has 3 other kids either riding in/being ridden in my parents. Maybe its a slow change. Things that help is that a lot of the curbs have been dropped to help with bikes not having to dismount, the robots change really quickly for cyclists.

While riding to school having a fortuner try and pass me and the two boys while waiting behind a car at a stop street, I have to now explain to my kids what a W anchor is...

Was this not the Val de Vie Race? I ended up parking my car on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere and riding the last 6km to make the start.

Agreed, the new place crosses a lot less major roads so is a lot safer. But I see people pulling out of their garage in Friday, then arriving at the school 3 minutes after us.

They should just walk or ride. My 4 year old riding 4km to school in the morning no problem. When it rains they put on rain jacket. They really enjoy it and is faster than the grid lock.

Not even surprised to find stop signs, pillars, robots all knocked down on roads with schools. Just too many cars. Should ban cars from 1 to 2 roads around certain schools at certain times

Yet when you tap on their window and ask them to move over in the school traffic they get all upset?

People are all idiots, all drivers are useless as I had 12 useless ones this morning. A motorist is driving a 2000kg vehicle and should sort themselves out!
