  1. Formula was great until the new XTR was launched. Can't beat the new silver stuff for stopping your bike, and looks the part as well.
  2. If looks are measured in speed, I would say that this baby is pretty fast!
  3. White is cool, but I prefer silver for mtbiking, and white for the road. However the logo I prefer in red....
  4. I've got the current XT brakes on my one ride and the new XTR on the other one. XT is great, but the new XTR is awesome. If the new XT is similar to XTR, I will highly recomment it.
  5. Nothing wrong with this groupset! XT gets XTR looks. Recently fitted XTR 2 x 10 on my new ride, and can't get enough of the performance and precision of the shifting, and the power of the brakes. If this new group is anything similar at a better price point, it could be the ultimate gruppo for mtbikers.
  6. I am 1.8m tall and ride a large (19") Stumpjumper 29er. Feels like the perfect fit, with the seatpost set at #13 on the S-Works (400mm) post and the stem stack height at 30mm. My road bike (Tarmac) is also a large (56"), so is my dual suss Merida. At 1.75m, I reckon a medium is the right size for you.
  7. Not for me!
  8. Omega Man, has all the single track riding caused you to have single vision, because I can't recall saying that roadies are riding 29ers, and I never said that I am a roadie. I said that I focus more on road racing, and the transition from rb to 29er is more natural than rb to 26er, does that make sense to you? Any way, I don't do Tokai, so it was obviously not me who you spotted doing jeep tracks, however those who prefered the jeep tracks are probaly not yet a pro mtbiker like you.
  9. Let me be honest on this topic, I don't really notice the advantage of the one over the other, cause time I win with big wheels going down, I loose going up. The real reason why I took the leap is that the 29er just feels more natural, and because I focus more on road racing, switching between the road bike and the 29er is better for me, as I do my early bird training on a mtb.
  10. Hey Popeye, don't feel bad for not owning a 29er yet, you will get there one day. Imagine we must all be stuck riding yesteryear's cars and bikes. Hell I will still be pedaling my Raleigh Chopper 3 speed and cruising in my Ford XR3.....nooit! (For the record, I also own a Merida 96 and love the bike!)
  11. I am using XTR 2 x 10 with a 42/30 set-up infront and 11/36 at the back. The 30/36 ratio is a bit harder than a conventional 22/34 set-up, but I have never needed the latter, so it was pointless going smaller on the front. Time will however tell if I will miss the granny, but I have other options....just push the bloody bike up the hill, if pro's can do it, why can't I?
  12. Seems that the 29er issue has become the most bespoke matter among pedal pushers, with so many pro's and con's discussed (or argued) in every magazine, on the hub, and on rides. It is not the intention of this thread to start another 29er vs 26er debate, but to rather show those who are still contemplating the leap, our big wheels. This is mine... a Spesh Stumpjumper S-Works.
  13. My road bike, and my full suss! My favourite mtb is however white, and not allowed on this thread.
  14. Under 80g each, can't remember the exact weight, but far lighter than XTR.
  15. I completed my 29er built this weekend....a Stumpjumper S-Works HT, after being (or still is) on a Merida 96. The 29er is a more natural ride, and way faster on flatter routes, but I agree with Mark Ellis, climbing is better on the 26". Went out this morning on a flat route, and chopped about 5 minutes off my 35km loop, compared to the 26". There is still a lot to get used to, but so far the 29er is tops. Being a roadie as well, the 29er set up is closer to my road bike, and switching between bikes will be easier.

  20. No, was fortunate to get one locally! Apparantly they are like hen's teeth!
  21. I know about the warranty disclaimer, that is why this bike will be assembled by a master bike builder!
  22. If your mechanic is not bullshitting, I will be replacing XTR chains weekly. WTF!
  23. My new Specialized Stumpjumper HT 29er S-Works frameset! Building this baby with XTR 2 x 10 and Easton wheels. Rest of the components will also be selected from the top shelves!
  24.
