  1. Cockpit components are supposed to be attached directly to the bar, and any material to protect the bar will compromise performance. My advice will be to make 100% sure about measuring and then clamp. Whatever marks are left is consealed, until you remove the bar....and then it is no longer your problem!
  2. Nothing wrong with the fork. Merida package a good deal, and would not fit crappy stuff. Not a World Cup fork, but well suited for every day mtbiking, and racing at entry level.
  3. Sweet bike at a good price, well specced with trustworthy components. Go for it! Merida also has excellent after sales back up. Enjoy the trails bro
  4. R100 insurance on a R20K bike is for free, take it! My two bikes costs me way more than that.
  5. Nice looking bikes at great prices, but velo vs Velo Sport has got me thinking!
  6. I am not surprised. Chris Sr and Jr deliver an awesome service and great prices!
  7. Hey Woofie, if Prolink does not work, rather attach a reflector to the spokes, it will look better that the cable tie, and will serve a safety purpose..... not that I promote the reflectored spokes, but you seem to be at a dead end! Good luck with your struggle, and congrats on running 2bliss!
  8. I really need to ask you a question, but I'm cautious to offend you in any way...........if you and your missus/gf/partner walk in public, does she wear one of those t-shirts that says "I'm with stupid" ?
  9. Never stand on your carbon top tube, derailleurs, spokes, or other fragile bits, but standing on the pedals while cycling is ok!
  10. Cycled the lane yesterday and it seemed relatively clear of any thorns and tyre cutting stuff.
  11. Cool! As long as you stay clear of races!
  12. Is this bike fitted with a side stand?
  13. Awesome stuff. I mix 2 bottles of Turbo for a race, but one has a small scoop of Jack3D for added benefits. Works for me!
  14. My first experience with a Serfas was the day I tried to pick one up from the shop floor, almost strained my back! What do they put in the frame, concrete? Rather look at the entry Merida's, much lighter and far better. ...and welcome to the hub and cycling!
  15. I had Race Kings UST at 700g a piece on my bike, and I replaced them with Specialized Renegade Control 2Bliss which is 500g a piece. A weight saving of 400g! Also used Rockets in the past, they are light, but as intern is saying, they do not offer great protection. Heard that the Spez Renegades are not only light, but also tuff, so I gave it a try.....so far they are great!
  16. My Spez S-Works gets a wobble if I exceed 100km, so to avoid it, I just stay clear of that speed!
  17. I've got no experience with the Scott, but I ride a 2011 Spez Tarmac SL3 S-Works. Awesome bike, light fast and stiff. Also tested the Roubaix S-Works, but like the race geometry of the Tarmac more. Both those Spez's will make you a vey happy cyclist.
  18. What a missile! X rated porn, Bender, x rated!
  19. Both my Eastons and Mavics are legal
  20. I fitted a set of Specialized Renegade Control 26 x 2.2 on my Merida full suss, after removing the Race King 2.2. Splat is correct if he calls the Conti's a bit narrow. The Spez tyres seems wider than an ordinary 2.2, and gives a lot of volume. The Renegades are low profile and fast rollers, and the bigger volume gives a very comfortable ride.
  21. Mostly training, but also did about 2-3 races with them. They are race wheels, very light and strong....and makes the bike look awesome! They come in two colours, white with black and red lettering, and also crest which is mostly black with white and red.
  22. I ride with Sram Red om my racing road bike (Spez S-Works) and Ultegra 6750 on my training road bike (Merida Scultura), and I must admit that I am more impressed with my Ultegra groupset. It is smoother, and has never failed on me once, where as the Red is lighter and faster, but caused me to miss shift and derailled chains more than enough! If it was't for the weight penalty (and to complete my Spez with Red) I would have fitted Shimano. Next time when I build a race bike it will be a tuff choice between Dura Ace and Super Record. I also ride Shimano XTR/XT mix on my full suss and is more than happy with the performance.
  23. I had a set of them, AC 420 Aero 3, great wheels. Got mine from Tarmac SL3 for a good price, and sold them to a hubber for R4000. I loved the hubs, but the braking surface did not compare with my Mavic or Easton wheels. It is my opinion that it is a great wheelset at a bargain price.
  24. I can't remember the model, but there was two on display. The alu went for R20K and the carbon one for R30K, both with Leftys and Sram X9 if I am not mistaken.
  25. The carbon Flash was selling at the Argus expo for R30 000....very sweet deal. I was very tempted, but fortunately my wallet can't accomodate so much cash, and buying with a credit card is traceable by the missus! I would go with the Flash rather than the Momsen, which looks like a decaled blank frame!
