  1. Of course! I'll give you a hundred bucks for your Comp.
  2. Ah. Today is the third time I look at this thread and it only just occurred to me that the 'kudu' is meant to be 'kudo'. Kudos to those operating on all cylinders. The sound of a penny dropping. A little slow me. But it did achieve the objective: two lights were ordered from EL. 😆
  3. Epic ride for Candace, and expecting more of that for the remainder of the season. Now, Mrs Lill, about that podium in France ... 🤞 Nice Alan, glad he could recharge and hold off the wolves so strongly. Epic ride from the GOAT.
  4. I get the distinct impression the UCI had to have a quick fix after GCN went south. hence the no-app(-yet) scenario. Maybe we'll see an app next year if enough people support the concept. 🤞
  5. No VPN. Works perfectly from a South African IP address. Play on demand: yes; I was about 50 minutes behind the live feed this evening. No worries with that, plus you can 'rewind' or pause or I can watch it all again tomorrow if I like. I 'watch' on my Mac, which I send to Apple TV to view in lounge. If it works on a Mac it will work on any computer/tablet/phone (although a phone is too small man ... unless your eyesight is a LOT better than mine). Sign up at app.staylive.io/cycling (or thereabouts) for a month and test drive this weekend. 🤷‍♂️
  6. My actual home address in SA. BUT the Staylive is only for UCI downhill and cross-country feeds (live, and you can watch races from earlier this season). No skinny bikes.
  7. Sheesh guys it's like R120 per month for the Staylive feed, which is good. Not RB, but good, and without lagging and hiccups (touch wood). Cycling season over? Cancel. Cycling season 2025 starts up again after the lazy bastids have holidayed for (what feels like) 11,5 months, reactivate the subscription. No ads, no Red Bull rubbish in-between and beforehand, just a solid cycling feed. Really, it's not a lot of money for many hours' worth of entertainment.
  8. What’s wrong with abusing Golden Arrow buses? 🤬
  9. If the Swedish police thinks it's legal, it will be legal in South Africa (otherwise Thule won't sell it here).
  10. Don't all Thule tow bar racks make provision for a numberplate? Should ... Picture of yours? Put the numberplate between the two individual tail light clusters, some tail lights will have a clear lens facing inward providing light, others will have a dedicated numberplate light. Oh, maybe one of those your-bike-hangs-from-something racks? Probably doesn't need a light/numberplate then.
  11. ... probably because they are squeezing in a marathon event on same weekend (course overlaps part of XCO/XCC track and obvs impacts training time, whipper-snapper racing etc).
  12. My favourite part of the planet. Thanks for the write-up 👍, looked over the first paragraph and now eager to take in the rest of it (before no doubt heading over to your South Coast Sojourn 🙂).
  13. Bike? I thought it was half a drone.
  14. If I am not mistaken Holdfast used to be the importer/distributor for Thule kit in SA back in the day. You hardly ever saw Thule stuff for sale anywhere, but loads of Holdfast in every nook and cranny. Down here at the coast you used to buy a Holdfast rack, a few years later you replaced it because it has rusted to questionable levels and so it went. Then, the lore goes, the Swedes discovered that the Holdfast racks (roof and bike) looked remarkably similar to the Swedish stuff. Emphasis on look. The scale says the Holdfast stuff is a little too fond of Mickey Dees. Does the Holdfast stuff do the job: yes. Is it good: it's getter better, is, I think, the diplomatic answer. My money goes to Thule. Their range is massive and cheaper Thule gear does exist. And lots of used racks worth looking at as well. Bear in mind that older racks – from any company – had some really strange and cumbersome mount-to-the-towball methods.
  15. Been there done that with Holdfast. Now a happy Thule user. Buy ONCE to (ultimately) save money.
  16. ... or try the Wahoo and see what the other side is all about?
  17. Might be worth trying to get a courier to deliver to a shop in Clanwilliam?
  18. Website is a dead ferret. 😬
  19. The actual UCI riders, you know, those physically there, were saying it's sorta technical (and enjoyable to ride). With technicality being a comparison thing I'll put stock in that over someone behind a bright computer screen sipping tea. 🤷‍♂️
  20. I'm in two minds about rear suspension. Yes, it is very nice, but it requires one more thing that needs maintenance and is often heavy. The Titan in links above look pretty good. The Giant is a nice bike but this example looks, um, well used. Also seems to be wear on the stanchions? Also the Anthem doesn't not have the best of reputations for heavy riders. The Specialized at Bike Market looks nice too – pity about the mixed bag of drivetrain components and the stanchions look like they may ave wear (pricey to rectify); strangely their condition ratings don't cover that? Might be worth enquiring though. Merida: rusty chain indicates poor maintenance. White forks are OLD forks.
  21. Don't buy the cheapest bike you can find. Find out what the various groupsets are (that would be the derailleur, shifters etc) and aim for (at least) mid range. So at least (plain) Deore in Shimano and whatever the equivalent is in Sram (NX?). If possible go Shimano SLX or Sram GX: very good quality and as expensive to maintain as their high-end stuff. Single chainring in the front nice to have. Front suspension: avoid coil spring forks like the plague it is. Must be air, and of used the stanchions (metal rods) must be 300% blemish and oil free. Definitely scour the used market: some great bikes there for a LOT less than you'd pay new. Awesome journey ahead. Welcome and ENJOY. 🙂
  22. I would head south – west of the river – and leave the car at one of the many guest farms.
  23. ... we all saw what PFP and VDP did with the previous Olympics' first big drop ... And to think neither of them are in Araxa. 🤷‍♂️
