  1. I hope that whatever the new route is, it creates more public trail that is accessible to us down in the Cape. That will get me excited! Would be awesome to see CoCT step up.
  2. Get him to call the office. There is no way they will turn him away if he says he was out of the country and unable to get to the web during the initial entry time. Get him to do it today. As other charity and international entries fill up it will be more difficult for the organisers to deal with this.
  3. This does not sound right. Has your colleague put in a call to the Cycle Tour Trust yet to enquire why he did not get the VIP option? Not yet in Club 21 myself, but believe they have a seperate VIP process. (Club21 is for those that have completed more than 21 Tours and you then receive a permanent number.)
  4. Best to just find someone cruising by at the bottom gate and ask them if you can join them for their effort. Was a chap who used to post his Tuesday and Thursday afternoon rides up but he has been quiet for a while now.
  5. Make a plan for a charity entry ekse!
  6. Bwhahahahaaaaaa, did you get the spider pic back?? (Attachment is properly funny!!!!)
  7. For their wine!
  8. Doubt you will find any races on at that time of the year! I would however plan to ride at least Welvanpas, which has easy enough to follow route markings, along with Jonkershoek and Tokia which you would probably want to familairise yourself with using some online maps or meeting a local to show you to the good spots, so that you don't have to spend the day on the mountain trying to track them down. Haven't ridden Meerendal yet, but other mates go there all the time and rave about it. How many days of riding can you sneak out of your week here?
  9. Good job to all involved! Certainly has made the track more rideable than before, which was impossible to do with any pace and pick your lines! Anyone go down on the gravel road between the two sections yet? The sand is all loamy and full of traction in the berm sections but the last berm finishes before the corner is done and you move off this onto gravel with much less traction when you take the right fork and try connect the 2 runs together. (Can't imagine anyone wanting to go left there and back to the tar road??)
  10. Technical riding and mass cross country races do not mix! They never will! Make your peace!
  11. Also might want to check out this.... https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/95975-merida-race-lite-904-61cm/page__st__10#commentsStart
  12. It is a great price for someone who wants to ride an event and yes many people would be quite competitive on this rig. Here are the limitations. If you ride a lot for training and the faster and longer you ride in order to get to the front groups, will mean more maintenance. More wear and tear items getting replaced. Factor this in with the components on your bike of choice. My own take on a bike purchase is that I try and get the best frame option I possibly can with my bike purchase and then upgrade parts with my maintenance replacements. First upgrade on a bike will always be the wheelset. Until you have ridden a performance wheelset you cannot believe the effect this has! If you're competitive that will be your next purchase. If you get stretch your budget I would check this out: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/101214-2011-fuji-sl-1-pro-c7-carbon-58cm-road-bike/
  13. TTTTTTTTTRRRRRRAAAAAACCCKKKKKK!
  14. Did you remember to get that stash of 'pomps' from Oom Chris all that time ago?? Looks like some ou's are warming up on this thread to get some....
  15. Stop doing Cross Country races and check out Enduro!
  16. Haha, whenever this topic comes up (even in discussions off the hub) I think back to that pump donating 'discussion' we had...
  17. And as if by magic you post this. Was just doing some online research on this.... Shot a lot SSISA!
  18. Indeed, for some the two go hand in hand!
  19. The best part about asking for advise here, is that youtube doesn't check out that you are struggling with something and offer to help with payment in beers as has been the case in some threads... Some proper technically gifted chaps have shared some skills on these pages for nothing but the love of riding a bike!
  20. It's all about what your actual goals are. If I was going to consider this buy knowing what I do after cycling for all of my 43 years, but approaching this as a newbie there would be many aspects to consider and you need to answer some questions in order to make this easier for the community to advise you: How seriously do you intend pursuing this? How long do you plan on keeping this bike? Are you someone who will upgrade parts of a bike in order to improve the whole setup or do you prefer buying a complete rig and just doing maintenance on that?
  21. Awesome argument. Here's the kicker below though. FYI - you're number 5 on the how much substance could've caused this result.... SAIDS: “We’re Satisfied Impey Was Not At Fault” http://www.bicycling...ed-impey-fault/ “Under the Anti-Doping Rules, SAIDS is required to vigorously pursue all anti-doping rule violations within our jurisdiction. We did so and checked the veracity of Impey’s account to the fullest extent possible. We sought opinions from our own experts, which confirmed that cross-contamination was indeed possible in the manner proposed by Impey’s experts.
  22. So it doesn't feel like we're trolling your post, check out the official response posted 7 or so pages ago. (FYI - You're number 4 on the "How much substance..." plot since) SAIDS: “We’re Satisfied Impey Was Not At Fault” http://www.bicycling...ed-impey-fault/ “Under the Anti-Doping Rules, SAIDS is required to vigorously pursue all anti-doping rule violations within our jurisdiction. We did so and checked the veracity of Impey’s account to the fullest extent possible. 23. Yep, you're right, SAIDS do not have the capacity or the means to pick up traces, yes mere traces of the substance with their testing. This is all a conspiracy so that you could come out here today and wow us with your in depth knowledge of how not to read a thread and comment...
  24. Oi vey, MET Eish! First South African to wear a yellow jersey at the TdF.... Rides for Team Orica Green Edge (OGE for short)
  25. Read the report! The pharmacist did not touch them with his hands. The pill counter machine however dispensed both the pill form of the drug in question as well as the capsules DI went in to get... Conspiracy over or invent a new one?
