  1. hmmm, when i'm on my sv only the big-bike riders greet, when i'm on the nxr no other biker greets, not even ianj! oh wait, wrong bikes...... i've given up caring - i greet if i can (even if it's just a lifted hand cos i'm gasping for breath) but if i don't get greeted back i don't mind.
  2. sounds good to me :-)
  3. ag, as long as i'm done by mid-day i'm happy (have afternoon plans)
  4. i'm interested
  5. thanks Mandibles :-) (i still hope i never need to test it out for myself) cos this Dell is my personal machine - the HP's were always through work - so it's good to know i made the right choice
  6. never had a lenovo myself so won't comment on that. have had HP and Dell and have had no issues with either of those. i have had the dell get a little (ok, maybe it was more than a little) wet in one of the recent storms (about 3 weeks back) and it is still working 100%. one of the HPs i used to have was in the boot of my car when the navara drove into me and flipped my car - and it worked perfectly after that. so i am willing to vouch that both HP and Dell can take punishement. never had to test the backup service cos i've never had problems.
  7. new years day sounds good to me
  8. :-( not good. hope she's ok
  9. condolences to family and friends
  10. Thanks for posting the info about the incident. ... I don't however think that it is totally safe for anyone to ride at any venue on their own anymore ... i've never felt unsafe at the farm and the workers do seem to be attentive etc at all times making it safe. that said, considering the fact that it's not even safe to go to a shopping mall or petrol station these days we have to be alert and vigilant wherever we may be.
  11. i haven't done a hub ride for ages.... depending on my other plans i might join - or do i have to commit now?
  12. RIP Alan. Sincerest condolences to his family and friends and the whole cycling community.
  13. the biker down following the head-on was out ogies way. rip wayne. i have established the cause of the toadbury accident - it was as it appeared to be - the taxi pulled into the road to do a u-turn without checking to see the bikes approaching from behind. rip yammie rider. rip to the 2 dudes involved in the collision with the tanker down south.
  14. R.I.P. condolences to Estelle and the rest of his family and friends
  15. (i also work at a bank...) my father takes the cake though... many years ago, when win95 was still the thing, he adjusted his folder view to show hidden files "so that it would also show files he'd lost or deleted" and proceeded to "clean up" his machine... yes folk, he deleted all the system files as well because he "doesn't use them - he didn't create tehm, he doesn't know what they are so why does he need them?" needless to say his OS was upgraded and he was locked down after that until he moved to cape town. now he's the shop's problem. i am NOT flying to cape town to bail him out when his pc crashes "for no reason" after he "did nothing".
  16. hey WW!!! i haven't logged on here for a while... i am SO GLAD that you're at home and that you're heling up so well
  17. all round good guy - yep, they do still exist! kudo's to you slowbee!
  18. WW, it's great to see that you're back online and to hear direct from you. heal up soon.
  19. WELL DONE WORCESTER ROUND TABLE!!!!!!!!!!!! and thank you to jogglingflurpy for taking hte proposal to them
  20. hendrik, if a person chooses to drive a 20 year old f-up car and goes on and on about how it's just as good as a lexus or subaru that is their problem. there is nothing "disgusting" about choosing (if you can afford to) to drive a newer car with airbags and abs, etc. the same way that a person has the right to choose to drink tassies instead of a better nedergurg or an even better KWV. there is also nothing "disgusting" about drinking the better wine. i'd recommend that you get rid of "el rapido" as it is digusting that you have chosen to spend your money on an extra tandem when you have a perfectly usable (albeitn iheavier and less suited to road use) other tandem. eyesight is a pretty important aspect of life. same as skulls. some people are quite willing to risk losing theirs. others not. it is, in fact, admirable, that some people are willing to spend their hard earned cash ensuring htat later on in life they are less likely to be a burden on their medical aid/family/society in general.
  21. BigH, clearly the scratches on your glasses are distorting your vision and making you loopy. as to my mutts - when i play with them it's playtime, such is life. if you feel good about usinf a faser on a dog that is your choice - i would NEVER do so as i do not believe in cruelty to animals. as to d'arcs (which you act like they are the best thing on the planet) - i had a pair when i was adventure racing (wasn't going to risk losing expensive glasses) which meant i was forced to use contact lenses, which with my eyes i cannot get vision good enough to see enough to drive or suchlike. as soon as i no longer needed "disposable" specs i gave them away. they did have some scratches and they were already on replacement lenses. just because you aren't willing to pay a bit more for something and feel that what you have is good enough for you (which you are entitled to - if someone is happy wearing a R10 helmet that's their choice) does NOT mean that you need to disparage more discerning products.
  22. for what it's worth (re resistance to damage) my rudy's have been run over by my mutts (25-30kg hooligans) more than once in my carport - so on scratchy bricks - not a scratch
  23. hehehe rudyprojects, and to think i haven't yet mentioned how many times my mutts have sent my rudy's flying and still no scratches? ;-)
  24. whooohoooo!!!! great news :-)
  25. ok, i read the first page and have skipped to the end - purely cos nothing i read will change my mind RUDY PROJECTS ARE THE BEST!!!!!! i've had a cornea transplant in each eye and i will have to have at least one RT cut op per eye before i'd be able to consider lasik. added to this my eyes are very light sensitive (typical of blue eyes). i had Bolle's before my 'shova crash (they'd been sponsored) and i've been through prescription glasses throughout my life and in my early-mid twenties i had lot's of spare cash so i spared no costs. end of the day in the Rudy's i've found specs that give wonderful vision, reduced glare and comfort of wear that is difficult to match with script glasses at over 50% more of the cost. my kalyos are a bit big to wear under motorbike helmet but on long trips i put up witht he "squash" effect purely because at the end of the day my eyes appreciate it.
