  2. I am horrified to read about this crash - haven't been on thehub for a week. WW, heal up soon, i'm thinking of you and the whole family. i'll def be adding a bit to the fund on payday. please keep us informed as time goes as to financial status of the fund - there are going to be major ongoing costs of physio etc.

David#7, I'll pass your thanks and apreciation on to the rest of the guys.
  5. *hijack on* cat-i, with the attitude of some pepole here i'll rather avoid the place - it's not the fun forum it used to be. i do come and have a peek at the tech Q&A stuff every now and then though. how are you? *hijack off*

Captain Slow, the only injured were the girl and her dad and apparently (according to jmpd) niether made it. despite taking sleeping tablet last night memories of the mother's cry of anguish "my baby" has kept me awake.
  7. i have one of these too - and i love it for long dirt-road rides. a wrothwhile investement.
  8. i agree with those who say to stick to the "men's" bikes but make sure you get the right size frame. then you just "customeise" for her on the components - stem, seat etc. i have a standard TCR frame (extra small) with a shorter stem on and lady specific handle bars (the best change i made) and i found a comfy saddle for me (i like the fizik arione - but what suits one person doesn't always suit another, ask amateur)

as a human being another human being injured and bleeding should be good enough reason to stop and hlep. even if that help is just to slow the traffic downa bit while still getting them to drive past. helping could also be going a bit up the road and showing the #$%^&*('s flying past to slow down so that they don't crash into the existing crash and kill a few extra cops and medics who are helping hte people injured in the first crash. i was utterly disgusted at the IDIOTS on cedar today - flying at about 100km in an 80km zone and getting all irate at a marshal showing them to slow down. there was a fatal accident in the dip. the car concerned was only a bit in hte road, but so was the adult victim (the late driver) and the medics were trying to help him and hold his brains in etc. many of these people getting upset and only slamming anchors just in time had MTBs on the back of their cars. cyclists comming in the opposite direction were forced to move into the road to get around the accident scene. cars could only get past in one direction at a time. but drivers don't care. tehy want to get to their destination as fast as they can no matter what. a mother lost her little baby girl today because the father went speeding past another car and then swung back into the lane and braked to turn in to the property where they live. the only people willing to stop and help were a few taxis and Lovemore from CyclLab. the vast majority of the few drivers who HAPPILY slowed down and put on hazzards to warn of danger were taxis. the rest of the peopel were upset that their trip was delayed by a few seconds. i guess many of those idiots wonder why people like me stop and help whenever i can. it's simple - the victim is a human being. and more importantly - one day the victim could be you and karma is a bitch. i hope the cyclist from the incident that started this thread incident is ok.

  15. i am very glad to hear that you're ok
  16. i just find magoo's version hilarious... i never knew that empty goo sachets were heaviy and rigid enough to bounce right underneath a car. nor that a person flicks their arm downwards and forwards when trying to put something in their back pocket. or that a person would put an empty goo sachet into their pocket before their ride. or that someone who is clearly not an emaciated race snake would even want/need to take a goo before even starting their training ride. but anyway, good on you for speaking up JB.
  17. sigma karma as a "cheaper" option - around R2500. brighter-lights for THE BEST, but a tad pricier
  18. hope the guy made it. very very sad to read this kind of thing.
  19. not good at all. hope your dad heals up and that the bike gets found.
  20. i am horrified by this! i am also VERY glad to hear the youngster will be ok. Cyclist Mom and Birdie, my thoughts are with you and the youngster - hope he heals up fully faster than expected. as to the comment re the sister (Birdie) riding on to the finish - it makes sense to me that she went on - get to the finish, get car, get to hospital (if an ambulance has already materialised) or get to brother asap . pretty logical. when i went down inthe 'shova in 2006 my emergency contact people were riding and i've never even thought it remotely odd or uncaring of them that they had to finish the race first...

cat-i - he "had a go" at TB on another thread saying that he will not support them in anything because he always sees people with TB stickers and vests doing things wrong. then this chirp.
  22. i recon this thread will be "iced" before it hits 15....
  23. Elliott truck with Argus bike burnt out
  24. santa c, there is NO cheap way that will work - you literally get what you pay for, except in the higher-price range. in that you get the best if you go with brighter-lights. at teh omni 24 hour i had my sigma karma on my helmet and brighter-lights on my bars and despite being one of the slowest riders i had company most of the time on my night laps - because other riders wanted to share my bit of mobile daylight. seriously, birghter lights are worth every cent that you pay for them. if you can afford them you will never ever ever regret buying them.
