  1. Yeah, not many Gravel rides on there though...
  2. Thanks for the input everyone... Nice ride, however a little to big for me, I ride a 50cm, maybe a 52cm, so 54 will be a little big for me. Thanks though...
  3. Hi All, Hopefully some of you can provide some valuable advice please. I am looking at getting a gravel bike, and been looking at these 2 models below. https://momsenbikes.com/bikes/gravel/gp300/ https://silverbacklab.com/product/siablo-105-2/ They both retail for about the same price (+/- R17000), and am undecided on which to go for, so looking for some input. I don't want to break the bank, hence this is the price range I am looking at, as I already have a road & MTB, so this will be my 3rd bike. Any views/thoughts on the about 2 bikes, or any recommendations on other ones to look at. Thanks in advance,

One last silly question...did you have Strava running on your MTN/Voda SIM, as I know that once you cross over into Lesotho, these mobile operators will charge us a bundle, although we are still technically in the country :-)

Great, thanks for the tips...will most certainly be taking it easy, as I just want to enjoy the ride & not going to any records & not claiming to be as fit as I'd like to be :-) I did do this ride at the end of 2015 (Manali to Leh) & one of the highlights were the "Gata Loops" topping out at 4800m http://i10.dainikbhaskar.com/thumbnail/655x588/web2images/www.dailybhaskar.com/2015/02/07/2_1423287732.jpg

    Sani Pass

Thanks Sepia, So drive to the boarder gate & park there as opposed to the backpackers? (is there ample safe parking there) Thanks again...
  14. Hi fellow cyclists... I've been long meaning to get to the Sani Pass, so I've booked to do a 4x4 day tour from Underberg to the Sani Pass & the highest pub in Africa for the 1st July. But I was just thinking, as I am in Underberg for the weekend (Fri - Sun), I was going to take my bike along & attempt a ride on the Friday. I was looking at the forums & came across some useful tips, was just wondering if there are any further tips/advice. I am staying at the Sani Window B&B in Underberg, so was going to drive to the Sani Backpackers, park there, and start riding around midday. Questions: - about how long will it take to the top & back (i know this is depending on fitness, I am fairly fit, but just want to take it easy, & take photos along the way etc) - Would just like to be back at my car before dark. - is it safe to go alone - if I don't want to ride all the way up for whatever reason, do I just turn back on the same road/path & head back - take passport - take a warm/rain jacket. Anything else...? Thanks in advance,
  15. Great Love GCN, great videos...will look at more useful videos on YouTube as well., thanks...
  16. Thanks to everyone for the valuable feedback.. Agree, I probably won't need all the tools in the maintenance kit, but if I look to buy the basics separately, i.e. chain whip, cassette tool, good set of allen keys etc. it probably adds up to more than just getting the kit. I've just got myself a copy of the Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair, so going to have a read through that as well. I have a carbon road bike & a alu MTB, so probably best to get the torque wrench. Had a look at both my bikes & most components seem to need to be torqued at 5nm or 6nm...so still contemplating getting once that has more of a range. Thanks again for all the advice, much appreciated...
  17. Hi fellow hubbers.. Am looking for some advice on purchasing maintenance tools. I can do some basic repairs on my bikes, but recently decided to learn how to do more repairs & servicing on my own bikes. I purchased a bike maintenance work stand last week, so now looking at some essential tools that I would need to get started. I have some basic tools, but thought I'd build up kit, but without breaking the bank :-) I've been looking at this option for a starter kit below. https://www.buycycle...cycle-tool-set/ Would you guys go for this one, & if so, what other essential tools would I need. I would think a torque wrench kit, but not 100% sure on what to go for as they are rather costly, & also not sure what NM I would need to go for, the Ryder torque wrench are R220 for a 5nm or 6nm. (so was thinking of getting both) Do most bikes use 5nm or 6nm...what would be the highest nm one would need in a torque wrench. I was looking at this torque wrench as well @ R899 up to 22nm, but not sure if I would need it. https://www.easybike...et-2-24-nm.html Please let me know what you guys think, would appreciate your advice to get my little home workshop started. Also any other tips or tools I would need as essentials. Thanks in advance,

  19. Thanks Myles, appreciate it. You would'nt happen to have a photo of this would you. I am just trying to picture what this would look like, & not sure if I am correct, but think I understand the concept. Would this suffice for long distance trips as well.
  20. Ok, thanks again Talus, appreciate it.
  21. Thanks Talus, appreciate it. Out of interest, what the rack cost you, & I presumed that it came with adaptors for 2 bikes out the box. Is this not the case?
  22. Hi guys, Looking for some advice, I have a Chevrolet Utility (2013) with no tonneau cover on at the moment. I am looking at options for carrying 2 bikes on the back of a Chev Utility (1 MTB bike & 1 Road bike), that will allow for the bikes to be locked onto the carrier as well. that is not too costly. I was looking at the option below, from Thule, but not sure what other options are available & looking for some advice. Thule Bed Rider 822XTR http://www.thule.com...22xtr-_-1689832 I would possibly want to add on a tonneau cover on later on, but not sure about it. Thanks in advance,

    Strava + HRM

Thanks for the feedback everyone, much appreciated. Will look into the Wahoo & Polar HR belts further before purchasing one. Will also evaluate the premium for the rest of the month to see if it is worth it for me. Thanks again everyone.
