  5. I Started in BL however couldnt get to the front to actually start nevertheless i started in CL (08:05) and off we went - I felt very good in the race, we had a nice bunch going and everyone was very aware of their surroundings and no hairy moments. On the 54km mark as you turn left to make your way back a piece of 5mm steel cable wedged into my cassette and forced me off - that cost me dearly as i could not catch the group again albeit i could see the bunch ahead but slowly fading away. The last 45km were extremely tough as i had nobody i could wheelsuck a bit for relief however a few groups were afforded that luxury when I came past but they seemed to fall off on the climbs. It was absolutely awesome and i really tried my best. Will do this race again for sure - there was full road closure for at least 60km of the race and the rest was shared however there was not one issue we or I experienced in CL. My cousin and i saw the crash in Mens elite - the very sharp left hander onto the ring road in alberton, hope that guy is ok - he came down very hard and straight into the rail . I finished with a 2m48.56 - was super fun. Sweet danny

  14. Hey Frosty Just need a bit of advice as im a noob - 3 months cycling noob So myself and my cousin were caught by a rather large group and so we hooked on, the pace on the flats were decent however I felt that with the climbs the guys really backed off however with my serious lack of experience and having never done this race before I had no knowledge of when and where i need to go balls out, anyways once or twice i made a break, it was more of can I help set the "climbing pace" however when i looked behind I had dropped the group and so i used the next few km to recover and so they caught up again, this happened again with my cousin later on however he was so strong on the climb about 12km from the finish that he broke away and so I thanked all the kia bethlehem guys and then made a break to catch my cousin which I was able to do and so we finished about 3 min ahead of them. First thing my cousin said to me was that what we did was not cool however he didnt realise that he had made such a strong break from them. So as i type this I feel bad cause I absolutely would wanted to be branded as a wheel sucker and would rather help where i can. Any light you can shed on this? Thanks danny
  15. wow man - hope he is ok and makes a speedy recovery
  16. 1912 both male and female competitors
  17. This being my second race, it was very enjoyable. I managed a 2h47, I started in HL and off we went. About 10km into the race my cousin got severe cramps and so we backed off the tempo quite considerably and then I had a marshal stop me at an intersection however no traffic went passed so that was very annoying but nevertheless im sure the motorists abused them the whole day. after about 10km of recovery riding my cuz came right and we were able to increase the tempo and so we set off, we were caught by a rather large group led by the Kia Bethlehem team, before I continue, I just wanted to thank the guys for pulling us all the way to the end - they worked the whole way thru and were rather exceptional on the flat sections. Looking forward to the next ride out. keep safe guys danny
  18. I dunno how all this seeding works - all i know is that in my 2nd race ever im in HL.
  19. Wow man thanks a mill for this message - its exactly what Im gonna do - enter and enjoy an outing with fellow cycling heads.
  20. Thanks Spinnekop & Frosty Yeah look I’m at that noob level where I wanna enter everything lol - I just wanna ride. Would like to do the 947 and that Amashovo (spelling) race for sure. Feeling amped for this race as I really enjoyed the ride for sight maybe cause it was my first event. Thanks guys
  21. As a new cyclist and a pretty excited one, im not at that point to question pricing for events, i entered ride for sight and now the emperors 98km race as my second event ever however reading the above posts puts a bit of a damper on things but i fully agree if its daylight robbery then there is no point entering when the next week you can just get some mates and ride the route.
  22. Hey Guys, Danny here from JHB south of Jozi. Started riding bike in December 2017 and im absolutely hooked. Entered my first race this past weekend (Ride for Sight) had an absolute Jol and managed to finish the 62km in 1h49 min, was extremely enjoyable.
