  1. I'm not going to do this exercise, i'll be forced to admit i have a cycling problem and cheap car
  2. I replaced the MJ rubber thing with this, has rubber inserts, works like a bomb http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=23533
  3. https://www.facebook.com/TourDeJozi
  4. Hi, if you understand the reason behind TdJ, it's like a CM ride around the JHB city organised by Shayne (1 of the COWs) so people get to see things they've never seen or experienced before. The "Jozi Code" is a twist on TdJ (if that makes sence), catch is you need to trace down the clues, you could choose a long route vs shorter so i think an exact distance will be difficult (as you could get lost). I've sent Shayne a msg to find out distance. My brother just told me, expect around 15km minimum with a max of i'm guessing 20km. Plan is to give out "boundary roads" so if you cross that, you're going beyond where you need to be so come back in. Either way, if you not racing, it's like Orienteering in the City with famous/known locations that we take for granted quite often, kewl concept Hope that helps, else PM me, i'll hook you up with Shayne
  5. Didn't a certain somebody say they were going to do it on a SS this year? No names mentioned Karma Fixed That Patches oke has a secret lycra fetish, you'll see a glimpse of them under his boardies. No ways, they hadn't finished last year by 1PM on Day 3 Or your way of guaranteeing you get a lifetime supply of Short Lube
  6. My 1st stage race 2 years ago, my partner broke me on day 1, cramping 35km in. Day 2 & 3 were just get thru the day rides. Day 3, down the Sudwala descent 5km from the finish, i thought i'd try make up some time, bailed, cost me 15min to fix the puncture besides the grazes. Lesson learnt, riding downhill at speeds you can't control isn't worth it! In 10 years of road riding, i'd never suffered this much, it's not easy but it taught me i can push harder. Last year, rode it with my gf, bettered my previous years time by almost 2 hours. I absolutely loved day 2, yes it got hot but the ST was amazing, like Rouxtjie says, the last 6km is bush tunnel ST. We curbed the heat by wetting our backs Best value for money stage race, the food is good the vibe is great, the views are spectacular. Hoping to be there again this year, need to sort a few logistical things If we go, we'll be taking our own tent, they have the space, i'm not keen on the midget things even tho i'm 1mSomething Just train for the climbs, the rest you'll be okay. with all the beer in your system, it should've been cooling like a BAWS What he said
  7. 2x bottle cages on a dual suspension, think that'll work on a Small frame?
  8. Yup, how awesome is that but only owns 1 screw driver She enjoys technical terrain as well
  9. Fanks pops. I use WindowCleaner to get em on & off. Since reading this thread, my girlfriends compressor has another use PS....why do we want them off nicely in any case unless you moving them to another bike?
  10. What i normally do is google review "bike name/parts here" See what others have said world wide. The Jamis brand has been around for years, check SportsBasements website for the Jamis history.
  11. I'm riding 600mm bars as it is, shave them down to 598 (only on 1 side tho cos that's where i hit) I'm keen on the plastic cap with the clear silicone/rubber, more for safety than aesthetics. If bike gets dropped (read as - dumb@$$ fall) that it doesn't fill with 6' of sand or pierce the bodily parts. Also doesn't lean on the bar when leaned against walls or windows cos mtbing involves coffee!
  12. I know i sound like a dodgy oke but what did you do with the ESI end caps, i'm looking for a set or 1 Tree @Mankele mugged 1 when i rode past it at pace last years 3T......bassss TED! I like tight lines I'm not that bad, the new notes i'm still battling with tho, does Bra Nelson face forwards or backwards? Should he face himself cos it's rude to make him face the back of his head but i guess it's OK since he's at least looking at an animal of sorts unless it's an old note. Too many options I've removed the problem by only carrying coins now
  13. Check out The Bike Basement as well, they having new opening specials til end July (Picture Ad on their Facebook page) at their new store Cnr Witkoppen & Rivonia (same shopping centre as Movida), they were previously the SportsBasement. They normally stock all last years stuff but you get full warranty etc with purchases on bikes. Think you'll pickup a Jamis there quite cheap.
  14. Think race distances are suppose to be within 10% of advertised distance, i accept that and ride til i cross the finish line, i do get that 5km on a MTB can be hell on some courses. Rooiberg tho would've pulled hard on my Udder! Alot of people must have been laughing with us riding along singing, 1st in a race for me & was awesome You should've seen what it was like being behind you Bennie, aim left or right of the dust cloud for safety. Rouxtjie's little drop bike and run was funny, then i saw how far he'd actually run and i laughed even more. If you like technical stuff & single track, VG is awesome! Definitely worth the money Thanks for a lekker ride boys
  15. I can't bring myself to buy Assos, as good as the brand is, 2 sets of shorts = a wheelset? Loved my Pearl Izumi's, have a old set of Giordana's i struggle to throw away. I'd definitely look at both again! The Cape Storm's and First ascent i use for short rides, 1-1.5 hrs. Recently been using Craft, Panda, they haven't been bad either but haven't used them over long rides (4+ hrs). Got a set of custom fitted Rockets Bib Shorts, for less than R800 you get a bib that fits you, especially good for odd shaped people, let's face it, there's some big guys with skinny guns and some little guys with big guns, the norm doesn't cater for that. A really good option considering they do different chamois' and so far, enjoying mine, done a 6hr in them no issues, really happy with the purchase. They'll even tailor them for you if you grow or shrink. Interesting how no body has mentioned F-tech. I'm assuming we got the entry level stuff. First feel, they were great, fitted well & were comfy (did 200km road ride 1st time out in them). Over time, the material has stretched quite noticeably.
  16. That could just be the paint crack from where the QR bonds to the fork. Andy Mac 082 786 0940 from Macarbi Racing, out in the South. I have seen quite a few Carbon repair ads in the Classifieds here as well.
  17. Same happened to my partner and myself, we rode over the tree tho but they were still throwing stones. I know Patric did go there to sort it out but still, the kids we/he aims to help are the 1's seeming to cause issues. 1 girl came in with a cut leg from the lil Bass Teds!
  18. I got the multi-entry, with the 2 free day & 2 free night passes, it's 14 entries for R400, works out @ just under R30 a visit, didn't have an expiry date on the card either, not bad if you consider it's open late on a Wed night where you can get in a good 2.5-3hrs of riding. The longest route is round 40km but there are ways to cut off sections if you know the place well enough or need to get back sooner.
  19. RoR, i need to take my other carbon toys for a ride occasionally, seems i can tuck & roll on both. Playing hockey double header, so my legs can't take riding as well, them size 2's will die! That was funny, standing a meter away from a tree and throwing a frisbee into said tree, i'm keen to try it tho The messing around part was really fun this w/end, the bench save was almost as awesome as seeing the Surley.
  20. I'm not sure where i fit into that equation, SSer, race snake or big guy or am i not included Assuming the freak is the Zimbo Burn-out queen, let me know the info, playing action golf Sat & Sun so probably won't ride either day might need an escort for her from Zandspruit back to Featherbrook, so maybe try factor in coffee @ M&B? Noo Betty's gonna make Rouxtjie loose man points?
  21. I'll take that bag of Jelly Tots thank you sir Although i don't have anything against Solomon's, use the Woodmead 1 quite often & now they've scored me a bag of Jellies
  22. Start ordering bigger amounts to get free shipping Dude, most times you order at midday & have it delivered by 9 the next morning, i think that's better than having to leave my desk A store would be lekker to walk thru but i'm happy with the internet based business that functions as efficiently as CWC
  23. The twitchyness shouldn't be that bad, stem is 100mm & running negative (if Neg is more horizontal than pitched) so almost 110mm stem. From all the geometry research i've done, the Spark geometry should still be more "relaxed" than my Ghost and the Anthem (thought i'd check Giant's Geo), so she should be fine. As a light weight, even with the + & - air pressures at 50psi (- marginally less), she doesn't use the fork that much. Sag & setup also done on the rear and she seldomly uses even 80% of that. I'd like to think she's just a well balanced rider and distributes her (little bit) of weight well
  24. Capi - the lil Mrs loves the technical stuff but ain't into big rocky sections yet & i'm a weight weenie. Steerer is un-cut so i can play with that to keep her at the same height, don't need her getting any faster, i need to keep up with her & not get dropped Got a 2011 SID, looked at the SRAM website and it's pretty easy, just need to get oil etc which isn't a bad thing cos it doesn't seem like servicing a fork is that difficult & i prefer to know what's been done. I've been told tho that since 2009, most Reba & SID can be adjusted but if you look at the YouTube Video on the SID 2011, they mention 2 different chassis options, round the 14sec mark, hence my reluctance to open the fork right now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX6DYNCrYjs I'm going to see if she likes the shorter travel, if not, i'll open it up and check if we can extend. Failing that, back to the Reba SL where she's happy
  25. I gather most bikes/frames are designed around a certain geometry for XC/Trail/DH etc. Trying to keep my girlfriends bike's (Spark 35 - 26") fork travel the same with a better fork since she's happy with the 120mm travel but due to it's age, it's working out to be a real challenge. She's pretty light on the existing fork, don't think she even uses 80mm of travel. What are the effects of putting a 100mm travel fork on the bike? The things i've worked out would change: BB would drop minimally (doubt there'll be any noticable difference) Headtube angle will increase (more responsive) I'd need to work out how to keep the bar height and reach the same, since i gather it would drop by about 20mm. Anything i'm missing here that i should be thinking of covering before making the change? I'm assuming as well with such a small change, there shouldn't be any huge stresses on the frame or mounting points etc due to the headtube angle change? Any advice would be appreciated.
