  1. Thanks for the offer, the lil lady has a compressor i pump to the max pressure a stans crest will allow with a foot pump, the tyre normally "pops" into place. I've had a stans shower before, no so pleasant breaching the max pressure barrier. I can live with a marginal wobble, not toooo OCD
  2. I remembered a thread about "hammering" it straight, just couldn't find it. Wheels are sealing, so happy either way, just wanted to try straightening while the whole lot was apart. Trueing is something i'm aware of, just tyres sometimes don't seat 100% straight either
  3. After hitting enough rocks, my MTB rims have a few dings in them, i was wondering how to get them kinda straighter, even tho i don't have any issues with them sealing at the moment. So started googling, seems quite simple, going to try it since the tyres are off for maintenance, need to get the wheels ready for this weekend http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Tech-Tuesday-Fixing-Rim-Dents-2012.html http://www.bicycling.com/maintenance/repair-maintenance/bike-repair-dented-rim Then i came across this interesting book as well http://books.google.fr/books?id=KbtiuIhNTcAC&pg=PA65&lpg=PA65&dq=how+to+fix+a+dented+mountain+bike+rim&source=bl&ots=TpnwmWlk7e&sig=2rcsVDr6Na0gx1kGQkMuOk1is0U&hl=en&sa=X&ei=a5T8Ur3KIOSR7Aaj94GwBA&ved=0CDsQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=how%20to%20fix%20a%20dented%20mountain%20bike%20rim&f=false
  4. Camelbak make a 610ml bottle, it's only 100ml extra, else do a seat post mount? 610ml fits on my lil lady's bikes
  5. Not sure if you looking Niner specific fork, i know Kiwi from Rapide was bringing in "Pitch Forks" else see if brad890 has or is bringing in any.
  6. With a 10k budget, you could pretty much build/get anything, except carbon Nice problem to have 10k I still love the Hope/Crest combo but rim choice depends on your weight. Most aftermarket wheels, Easton, Mavic, AC will fall into 10k.
  7. If you surf theHub, you'll find lots of guys that have brought in, are bringing in, for business & personal Chinese frames. Matter or choice, if you willing to pay the bit extra (~20%), you can have you the warranty & still be cheaper than the big brand boys?
  8. Pick me, pick me I was also looking at a TT frame when the lil madam wanted to do IM, thank goodness she keeps telling me she doesn't enjoy riding road. $/R is killer at the moment, no bike purchases allowed for me
  9. Post #9 Camping is suppose to be top class there, we might still camp, think it worked out round R257 for 4 per day. Think check the Kleinplaas Resort http://www.kleinplaas.co.za/campsite.html https://www.nightsbridge.co.za/bridge/book?action=2&bbid=10668&startdate=2014-04-10&enddate=2014-04-13
  10. Fixed PBP is ~1500km right?
  11. From what the GF told me, the camping there is highly rated, don't ask me why she bought a camping and caravan magazine It was a consideration, my comparison was like for like, doubt you'll camp for Argus.
  12. GF, 2 mates and myself all doing Solo, i'll ride with GF the whole way tho. Compared to what it costs for eg a stage race or what Argus costs for a Vaalie, i think it's value for money? Argus, flights, accommodation, ride time of 3.5 hrs = R6k per person? R60/km 36One, travel, accommodation, ride time of 24 odd hours = R6k for 2 of us? R16.5/km (for 2) Do the same costing for 70.3 or IM and it's not badly priced?
  13. That really sucks, there's 0 honesty left in this country, thieves should be have their hands chopped off! I like that MTN are using the Retul bike fit
  14. I don't ride with sealant in the tubbies, i carry a bottle of sealant and a valve tool to remove the inner core. You don't know how quickly it dries up so rather fill when i puncture (basically the same as if i rode a clincher?) Put a small amount in the leaky soft tyre, pump it up slightly and spin, let it settle and hopefully your leaky woes will be gone
  15. It wasn't that bad, either that or buy a new tubby, think i'm a cheapskate If you ask me if it's worth riding tubbies, i'll still say yes. This year, guys were puncturing (suspect snake bites) on 94.7 after hitting stuff hard, holes, bumps etc. I don't think you can snakebite a tubby too easily if at all. Out of 30 odd of us riding at Racing COWs, think 3-4 of us were rolling tubbies & none of us punctured.
  16. Bianchisti, if you stick something down the valve (i use a toothpick to clean out old gunk) once you removed the core, does it go all the way thru?
  17. Jimmy's Killer Fish & Chips does a Gatsby, think Akhalwayas call it an AK. Nou is ek lus
  18. Naught boetie, you never had a GATSBY....aibo Think we need to sort that out quickly!
  19. If you work that out across the ascent per km, it's not that bad, i've done worse in a stage race across 3 days. Pace yourself and i believe you'll finish. & with a signature like that, i assume ur a COW
  20. Have you taken the valve core out before putting in sealant? Or don't you see a valve core? Could be just an extension they've put over the existing core. I repaired my own Tubby, had a sidewall cut, so i googled and read as much as i could, took off the base tape, undid the stitching, put a patch on the inside, popped the tube back in, sowed the tyre back together, stuck the base tape back on, re-glued the tubby back in place. Haven't had an issue.
  21. Entered today - so part 1 done Accomodation next, luckily there's about 4-6 of us doing this so expenses can be kept to a minimum. Did a long ride on Sat, still early days for training & went over the bars, couple grazes but else alive and riding still. I think they've got a 180km option as well now, not sure where i saw it. Not sure about the bins, it would be a nice option but i think we're planning on carrying everything we need to finish. Just do it! Friend passed away this weekend, you get reminded how short life really is. When i asked a past rider if he was prepared, he told me "If you had to be prepared for everything in life, you'd never do anything". So i'm going out there to test myself again, see what i'm really capable of
  22. Looking good Patches! Love seeing custom projects, makes me feel inspired, then i realise i'm analytical and just go back to work
  23. I'm rolling a 26" rigid with a 32/16, only really done CM & a Spruit ride with it, not sure if it'll go pear when i get to eg VG. It'll be a long time before i know, bike is going back to geared for the 9yr old to ride
  24. Thank you fairies for building more awesome ST and doing work on improving the Spruit. Even if you don't hit all the jumps etc, the fact that there's 2 lines mean less issues with passing traffic The bridge under the flippen busy road (by the gym) allowed us to take the kids for a spin with less of a worry, it held up well under the big storms so really impressed by your work
  25. If you head from Malibongwe towards Kloofzicht, there's diesel spilt on the corner by the Satellite dish, in the entrance to the circle in the dip before Glenburn (looks like both sides), then a lot of glass in the cycle lane about 1-1.5km from Kloofzicht (saw it on Sat already, still quite a bit there today), looks like diesel both sides of the Kloofzicht circle as well, take care in those corners!
