  1. I seem to do a lot more IDT sessions now during the week, getting out to fight with traffic isn't that much fun. Series is/are my only way to pass time easily, movies have quiet moments, then i feel the ride. Lactate intervals, i suffer and watch the seconds tick away, i miss half the series! I don't have a factory made block for the front wheel, i have raised the front to try level the bike, somehow it just feels more comfy on the road or is that just my mind hating IDT? Used a fan during winter still to try stay cool
  2. They def still going: http://www.teambizhub-fcf.com/ Anriette was with them for a very short stint. Mostly see the MTB stuff happening when it comes to results and yes, they have been sporting Scott's lately, no longer Specialized.
  3. I was spec-ing 2x10 for the gf, she can't push the same ratio's as me or such long cranks but 170 is too short. So i went Aerozine which gives me a 172.5 with a 39/26 and an 11/36 cassette to give her the same ratio's she's riding now, keeping the granny in check that she wants. Agreed it's better to be able to ride uphill, there's very little times that you seriously outgeared where you could pedal. Pretty much paid what i would for any other crankset. See they do a 36/22 http://www.aerozinebike.com/products98.htm Agreed, 2x(whatever) to me just runs better, less drops, less hassles, as previously stated, you've done away with overlap gears so i don't think the 3rd blade up front is really needed, you still get the top and bottom end ratios, you loose marginally. DeltaAlphaMike, yes, new shifters, rd, cassette, crankset, chain. You can get away with the FD staying the same so basically replace the whole drive train.
  4. Awesome feel good post! I wish our streets were safer like when i was little and could ride to school without my mommy needing to worry.
  5. I've used GroupOn for a couple things, they've always come thru no hassles. Kids, wait the 4 weeks I ordered 2, if somebody is willing to make me an offer i can't refuse (Smarties & Jelly babies hold no value, real cash money), i'm willing to part with 1, else it's my brother's B-Day prezzie, can't sell the gf's 1. I'm not biased, i ride Garmin
  6. I'm sure the wheels would fit even my little bicycle frame I hope the real owner gets his baby back!
  7. What everybody said above but what is YOUR goal? Yes it is oversubscribed, unless you in A group, you really stand little chance or really racing it. For me, it's a casual twaddle in a COW suite to get out and have some fun. Don't expect it to be hectically technical, they are catering for the masses. I'm there to have a day out on my MTB with casual Joe & their partners. Enjoy the ride and help any newbies, think i fixed 5 mechanicals last year and 0 were mine. Kinda my Mandela day & at the same time doing what i enjoy
  8. From a roadie background, i like my pedals to hold my shoes, not feel all wishy washy under my foot. I tried a set of Candy's, never liked em, you can't tention the things so they always felt loose. The 4 entry system, i couldn't tell if i should move my foot fwd or backwards to clip in. Ridden Shimano 505's, 520 & XT, i'll stick with Shimano thanks. To clear mud, tap shoe on side of pedal, clip in, think it's something you do with all mtb pedals. I've only been MTB for 2 years now. Also if people keep bringing up contact area between pedal and shoe, increasing it model to model, why would you want your contact area to be 2 pieces of wire? +100, had a m8 donate a bike, he had eggbeaters on there, also 1 moer big dent in the 1 side, couldn't use 2 of the 4 sides, you replace the pedal. I've hit some serious rocks with Shimano, clips in perfectly still. +100 Also saw a guy at the Knysna RE:CM200, Candy pedal in hand, axle on the bike, not sure what went wrong but that really wouldn't excite me!
  9. I believe in the rating system, that's why i've asked people i've dealt with to comment as well as i comment on dealing with them. We all would like to believe the world is a good place, unfortunately there are skelms He does have a friend on theHub, also in Worcester.
  10. Move to the East It almost feels very short driving that now Let's organise 1 I'd def make that 1, but i've been told i'm riding some forest called Harkerville
  11. +1 on their info, Dunkeld and West Rand Cycles have given good pricing, but it's all about shopping for the right price ey? I'm looking for pimp pricing on a set of shoes please
  12. From a 12" and 16" bike, i've noticed the 16" stays better inflated. Bike shop put slime in the tube, kids like riding thru thorns? 12", i need to slime them, think that's the answer for me. Never looked at the braking, think a freehub does make it easier for them to get the pedal into the right place to start, you may need to modify the pedal brake hub as well?
  13. How many punctures do you normally get, avg in a year over how many km's? In about a 12 month period, i've had maybe 3, yes punctures in races are crappy but a proper piece of glass or staple will go thru any tyre? Thought more people run the other way around, heavy puncture proof tyres for training, light fast stuff for races. Gators are suppose to be bullet proof & with that you have more material = weight, i've been riding GP4000's and they are softer, esp the side walls, even then i've only had 1 puncture in a race in Sept and that ended up being the valve to tube join. Other thing is why pump to 9 & 10 bar when "most" tyres are pressure rated to 120psi (yes i've seen 10bar clinchers)? The slightly harder tyre may mean less contact as well so less umpfffff? As a norm, i run at 7bar front, 7.5 back, i'm round 65kg's. Tubbies i run @ 8 & 8.5bar. Also with the bigger races with full closure, ride in the car tyre line most the time, it's cleaner & % chance of punctures are less. Sure if you google rolling resistance and tyres etc there'll be a website with RR stats & %'s
  14. Yeah, shortly she'll know what bike parts are called (NOT, that thingy is making a noise) and you'll be telling her how to true a wheel My Spark is/was awesome, really loving my new ride See, now he may be pink, so does that mean he's a cross dresser
  15. Geluk M Does this mean we gonna see you riding like a demon 2Bliss - sure it's already in the pipelines knowing your BF
  16. From Google-ing: +27 (0)11 904 3930/3/7 From a hiking website: There also has been problems with the telephone lines. during the difficulties please contact the reserve on 071 602 7581 or 071 602 7579
  17. Ricky, thanks for the update, been good to read other's posts here. Annual/Multi Pass Consideration for a Mulit, a pass is not restricted to 1 person eg i own a pass, if i persuade a friend to join, he can enter on the same card and it's clipped/stamped twice). Annual would last from date of purchase for a calendar year or pay pro-rata for months. Not sure if the East Rand peoples ride at night of if they scared of the boogie man/men or tokoloshies, would you consider opening late 1 night where guys can ride til eg 8pm with lights etc? Kiddies track is a winner where lil 1's ride in a safer environment & not have to compete with tons of adults yet still have great enjoyment being on their bikes Thank you for enriching the sport of cycling
  18. I used it to create a Course, works 100% Erm, can't we come to your house for coffee 1st? & end there with a bike wash
  19. Not defending Polar service, i have a 720 and it does indicate the battery is running low right? We also need to take some responsibility? I've replaced the battery myself, watch is outta warranty by like 5 years. I don't swim with it, simple cos i know the casing is cracked. I have moved to Garmin, as far as i know the Edge units are sealed units and you can't replace battery, each device has it's pro's and con's? Last details i have for Polar (could be out dated): 0118051028 36 Martin Koch Vorna Valley In the past, i arranged a walk in appointment, you go there, hand in the watch, get it back in 15min kinda thing. Stats are great, if you been riding long enough, you should know what each intensity feels like, just a bit more PT keeping track of times in intervals etc.
  20. What's your reason for 0 sealant? This week on the Spruit, m8 burped his front wheel, i do think the sealant helps re-seal, not sure what pressure you run? Then other guys had flat issues on Sun, sealant had "run out/dried" so they spent a good 15min removing the tyre and pulling all the existing thorns out (a step few of us follow regularly, although i've been told leave thorns, they seal themselves), before tubing. In Zim, i managed a small hole thru a water crossing day 1, double plug to seal the hole and i believe Stan's helped seal the little holes around the plug. Then post 3 day ride, i pulled out thorns from that stage ride (new tyres) so i'm a true believer in S.E.A.L.A.N.T I've run foldable & UST tyres. My thought is are you aiming to have the lightest bike ever, so people can admire it while you're fixing flats, or are you going out to have 0 issues and a happy ride? Personally i don't enjoy mechanicals on a ride Road, no sealant, check tyres regularly, i carry sealant for my tubbies in case i puncture, never had to use it on a ride yet (knock on wood).
  21. From the Link Scotty posted: "So far we have a 35km lap but we will add new sections every month to keep it interesting. It just takes many hours to cut even small amounts of track. We expect to have a 50km lap by september. Price is R40 entry. We will be hosting events and test the best bike days with Specialized in the near future, which all riders will be invited to. " Is the price a bit steep? When you consider most places are charging R25 for a single day entry and they have season cards available as well on top of that.
  22. I have the issue of loosing bottles out the seatpost mount cages, tried 2 cages so far, Trek Batcage & an old alu 1 i had. Batcage is def not good for vertical mounts. The Alu did a much better job but GF still got the bottle to jump out at Groenkloof, not even on anything crazy. So what is the best cage that you've found out there that does the seatpost/vertical mount (without mods to cage) that seems to hold a bottle like glue? Riding a dual means i do decend like a hooligan most times? Or do i just resort to making a holdy thing for the spout?
  23. I like the fact i can get a MTB crank in 172.5, not that i need 1 anymore, but they offer it as opposed to many who only do 170-175. I eventually went Aerozine, now to 175's with my new fiets. I believe price is going to be the issue unless it's a well known brand? If it's cheaper than eg Thompson/Enve/KCNC etc or equal, then it may move & how much you market it. Good luck
  24. As a roadie, i've learnt that you can never judge or compare a distance. 80km over the same MTB trail 1 day to the next is tricky, today it's awesome, hard, great traction, tomorrow it's wet, muddy & cold. Then you have 80km of smooth jeep track whereas 80km @ Mankele/Sabie is a whole different ball game.
