I see vets 40+, vets 50+ and elite ladies started together. Anyone here wants to give feedback on that category's racing? Wondering if it's worth it for a vet 40+
  3. Road bike. The closest real MTB trail from there is Tokai which would take you about 20 to 30 minutes by car. Nice routes you can road bike and mix it up a bit.
  4. There's a few around Sep/Oct/Nov and then again Feb. Most difficult/highest beta includes PPA One Tonner, Double Century. And races like Tour de PPA and Durbie Dash.
  5. I must just adjust your weight. How many coke & pies have you had in the last few months? Average/week?
  6. Don't worry, I have your stats already ๐Ÿ˜„
  7. 2:43:51 although I did drop on chappies and suikerbossie from the front guys, but managed to get back on on the descents.
  8. We are on opposite sides of the scale! I used the normal Strava segments so should be easy to check. My normalised for the whole ride was 272 which gives ~ 3.2
  9. 84kg which would make 350w equal to 4.2w/kg. Won't last in $ with that, but I would think good indication of racing groups. If more guys and girls share here, then we can do some comparisons.
  10. Some segments' average power stats from @ Edinburg 1.72km 5.5% โ”‚ 388w 4:14 Smits last 1.65km 5.5% โ”‚ 347w 4:04 Little Chappies 1.42km 4.1% โ”‚ 365w 2:56 Big Chappies 1.72km 4.8% โ”‚ 355w 4:27 Small Suikerbossie 0.62km 4.7% โ”‚ 351w 1:24 Big Suikerbossie 1.86km 6.7% โ”‚ 363w 5:27
  11. Thank you JM! This boxplot actually shows that the seeding works out quite well. Yes, of course there will be outliers for various reasons, but in general there is a nice trend going slower times down the groups.
  12. Any hubbers here at the start of @ ๐Ÿ˜€

Unfortunately admin is not their strength. Marketing on the other hand ๐Ÿ˜„
  14. If you do carry a cellphone then I think there is an option on the locked home screen to add emergency information and it can be opened without having to unlock the phone. Edit: for Samsung https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-use-galaxy-device-in-an-emergency-to-contact-emergency-contacts-and-view-important-medical-information/?srsltid=AfmBOorm2FLUrzGEgEZBR2tp9BgCPSn3wc7qTGoVT5SvqLI2XKE_k361
  15. Oh yes I think so as well. But there are so many SA Champs in road and XCO and XCM and downhill and gravel. And I think SA Champs is not always first to jump with calendar dates, because they are waiting for provinces/organisers to bid for the champs. And in that time other events fill up the calendar. Edit: wasn't sure about to or too so changed to as well ๐Ÿ˜„
  16. Bump for Craig
  17. Think about it, there are only 52 weeks in a year. And you can probably exclude a few due to Dec/Jan holidays, weather, etc. And a lot more events across the different disciplines. Then yes, it can be that difficult!
  18. Please share this said research? Would be interesting to read!
  19. Are you only looking for groups to ride with, or for an official club? WP clubs https://www.wpcycling.com/affiliated-clubs/ and maybe try Bellville Cycling Club, Cape Multi Sport or Kraaifontein Cycling Club. Mayve even D'Ville for weekend rides.
  20. Online steroid store accused released on bail as investigations continue 21 Feb Alex Patrick
  21. Is your friend's seeding good enough for racing groups? If yes, rather give them a call first to find out before wasting money on a racing licence.
  22. And well done to Stefan! There must have been a lot of pressure on him to win as pro cyclist. Especially racing against strong big teams of 6, 7 or 8 riders! I see there was some confusion about not knowing a break of 3 being away. Especially with Stefan, Sascha and Jaco!
  23. I am trying to learn about karma which talks about cause and effect. And that the universe has balance and that we shouldn't waste energy on things like this ๐Ÿ™‚ But not sure where the line is, if any, to start wasting energy on something! Not sure what the solution is with eBikes. @ChrisFgame some nice insight in his earlier post. About still wanting to race/go hard. But also enjoying starting at the back. The things is, there is just a too big difference in normal and eBikes. Start in normal groups, mess up other people. Start last, ride alone.
  24. There are a lot of threads regarding seeding. Didn't actually don't know about the Racetec seeding, but did you check out the Pedal Powet one? https://pedalpower.org.za/seeding/ and select road seeding and put in your details. It is reliable in the sense of relative seeding, but the seeding and start group won't match. For example PPA seeding A would put you in $ or other racing group at CTCT. So you kind of have to work back from there. Edit: I see my Racetec results actually show my correct CTCT start group!
  25. Sounds like you had fun! Well done ๐Ÿ˜€ Was Deon not legit an eBike in the eBike group? Or are you saying be was, but slipped into an earlier start group than what he was supposed to be? I always feel sorry for marshalls having to play police. You would think us people would do the right thing. But again, having seen how the A group rides that idea also kind of flies out of the window!
