  1. Hi Arkadion He never mentiond anything about a clicking noise, and havnt heard anything clicking yet nothing strange and nothing different experienced either My doctor is Lieth Stewart at claremont life hospital (cape town) - for a second oppinion u can also see Jeroen Swart at sports science institute (also knows what he's talking about) luckily i drive an automatic but even then, swtiching from the accelerator to the brake caused problems! - i hated traffic Went riding in jonkershoek (stellenbosch) on saturday morning, apart from my hands almost freezing to my handlebar i felt great! we only did arround 30ks (think due to the rain and cold) and also did 38ks in tokai on sunday. I havnt started running yet - not in any hurry im rather going to work on glute strenght etc before i start running again!
  2. are u in front of a fake one at the moment?
  3. Ouch..... how does that happen?? training? good luck!
  4. Frosty - havnt been able to put a decent distance ride in yet as i only started riding on sunday again - have gone for a ride every evening this week after work (to the block house and back from claremont, which is a +-10k climb and then back down again) Planning a nice long ride this weekend in elgin or stellenbosch. On tuesday it was 3 weeks since my surgery - legs are feeling good, have lost a bit of strength and fitness but should be able to get it back fast enough, planning on doing the karoo to coast in 3.5 weeks time.
  5. Had a nice chilled ride to the block house last night! legs feel great have lost some fitness but was great to be out there!
  6. Also I went for a ride last night! just arround the neighborhood but felt great had the stitches out this morning. Also got a more detailed explanation of what they did - I was INCORRECT in saying they cut a Z into the itb - If u can imagine a square piece of rubber stretched tightly between ur two hands - they make tiny little cuts (a few centimetres appart) in areas where the itb is tight to mesh it out and release the tension - not too close together which would result in a hole.
  7. Hi guys sorry for delayed response, I am 24 years old, and my itb problems definately started from doing to much to fast with my running, i never had the problem before while just cycling - but eventually i couldnt even cycle further than 25 to 30 ks depending on difficulty. Me-rida - the stretching, strengthening etc didnt seem to help at all
  8. I also had the cotisone injections in the beginning - but that was just because i wanted to race. Its just a short term solution to reduce the inflamation and does not fix the problem which causes the inflamation. As said above the surgery is very minor - i went in to Hospital on tuesday afternoon - was in surgery for no longer than 20 minutes and after waiking up from the general anaesthetic (which is probably the most "complicated" part of the surgery) i walked out the hospital (slightly straight legged) and went out for dinner
  9. For me it was the same - definately started hurting faster when riding more hills. As far as i know they basically cut a Z into your itb, allowing it to stretch out..
  10. Not a problem, I will definately let u know how my recovery/rehab process is going, like i said my doc wants me to start riding (obviously take it easy) in 10 days time and slowly build up from there. I will be able to give u more info apon my follow up appointment on the 16th.
  11. Thanks Toneljhb That is very encouraging! Initially i only had the pain when running but eventually i couldnt even cycle, swim breaststroke, or walk the fan walk during the world cup!
  12. shut ur mouth osborne
  13. HI Guys, I have been suffering from severe ITB syndrome since training for the African X trail run! I immediatley started pysio and stopped riding, running and anything that could cause inflamation I was going twice a week to the sports science institute in newlands (R300 a pop - R600 per week), and also started strengthening excercises, stretching (including foam roller), etc etc. NOTHING HELPED! So yes i went for ITB release surgery on tuesday (03/08/2010) on both my legs. My surgeon (who i have huge confidence in and is a sportsman himself) says he wants me to start cycling in 10 days time and gentle jogging in 21 days. If anyone is interested - i will let you know how my recovery is going, or if anyone has had the surgery - please let me know your results.
  14. thanks guys, i will give it a bash.. hopefully holds up for awhile - bike is brand new!
  15. About 20kms into the Attekwas on the weekend a large rock stupidly jumped out in front of me and i managed to hit it with the large chain ring on my crank... unfortunately it bent both the middle and large chain ring rather badly.... i cycled the next 40km's in granny untill i found a farm worker at water point 2 with a pair of pliers - so we just used them to bend it back into place this seemed to work fine and i managed to finish the race. what do u recon - will i have to replace the entire crank or could i just take the bike in and get it straightened properly?
