  1. Sport will NEVER be drug free !! Just face that fact and move on. Stop worshipping those supposedly godly athletes and focus more on living healthier and longer yourself. If that means taking EPO recreationally, so be it.
  2. the question is, What is "normal" Normal hematocrit of populations living at high altitude is far higher than those living at sea level. Going to punish those athletes living at high altitudes now ? Same for definiton of asthma. some doctors are far more "willing" than other to define asthma leniently and such athletes get a boost from their pumps ...
  3. I have a natural hematocrit higher than rider A but have asthma and rider A don't have asthma. I am allowed to take something for my asthma, rider A are not allowed to take something for his lower hematocrit ... double standards .
  4. you see, that is the point. where is the line now ? All people who have asthma not to be allowed to compete in cycling races. surely they have unfair advantage over those that don't have asthma ... ???
  5. I'll give you a swingball... Suppose you have anemia, or low red blood count, that's a medical reason for an EPO subscription. Now to what level would you regard it ethical for him to take his hematocrit up to ? No matter what that level are, he is going to be above some others. Is that wrong ? Btw, another very good reason to up your hematocrit by taking EPO is for cognitative reasons, ie to improve your brain function. Not enough good reason on its own ?
  6. It's amazing how prejudice can cloud the mind. How many people do bail a race, or even don't start because they get ill? Just to finish such a race is competing against others not able to. My point is it should not matter. nobody should care. It's recreational. his choice , his life. why would I care. It's only if you put such value onto it, that you give a *&^% anyway of who wins or who finishes. If you want to pay a small fortune to "compete" in a race as that, it's really your problem, and nobody's else's. Just don't come and bragg to me that you "did the epic " LoL
  7. You have given no proof. You quoted the perspective of a drug salesman ! You should know I am definitely not lazy. I welcome scientific debate, not hearsay ... People that die from heroine and cocaine are definitely not using it responsibly. You still don't get my point ... People die from alcohol abuse, that does not prevent millions of people from using it "responsibly " Red wine has proven benefits as well. EPO is prescribed in many cases for proven benefits, if used responsibly. Please do educate yourself. Google is free, as you say.
  8. This sound like double standards to me. It's recreational use. Why does anybody care ? Caffeine, nicotine, cortisol, cortisone, sugar, dagga, the list is long. everyone is affected differently. you can make the case that all enhances the performance of somebody over another ... Get my point ? Definition Main article: Responsible drug use The concept of "responsible drug use" is that a person can use drugs recreationally or otherwise with reduced or eliminated risk of negatively affecting other aspects of one's life or other people's lives
  9. You just made my day with that comment. TY, Can't stop laughing !
  10. why are you commenting then? And why give your opinions without wanting to justify them with facts and research ?
  11. What a cop out ! LoL
  12. you list 2 reasons : unhealthy ( how is that ?, give research please) and potentially fatal. ( I pecifically said responsible use) driving in your car or on your bike is also potentially fatal ...
  13. But why ? Some would say the same about you taking medicine like antibotics or something else. Eating sugar, etc. I am more interested in your reasoning than your opinion. Again. Why would someone be an idiot by using EPO responsibly ?
  14. to come back to the original topic of this thread...what has rules to do with recreational cycling ?
  15. Cut your sugar intake to zero. Lower your fasting blood glucose levels to between 70 - 85 . Read this, http://www.rajeun.net/glucose.html or follow a ketogenic diet like me and Tim Noakes
  16. You are right. If you are not into competitive sports. This guy, http://www.rajeun.net/hb.html , has been doing it for many years to stay young. Growth hormone, EPO, testosterone, insulin, etc.
  17. Yes, he is pretty smart and I like his website. I posted about him previously in this thread, https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/113902-prof-tim-noakes-u-turn-on-carbohydrates/page__st__384#entry1836106
  18. Only yourself can know this figure. Everyone's metabolism is different. It also depends on how much you expend by exercise every day. For me (68 kg ), 2500 cal is very high if I don't exercise every day.
  19. 1.5 g protein / kg body mass is adequate to maintain and even build muscle. That means about 115 / 120 grams protein a day for you. Your 187g looks high ( to me ) and could lead to your BG levels to be higher than it should be.
  20. It looks ok. What is the total calories/ kilojoules ? Bit difficult to comment on the exact protein amount without knowing your lean body mass and whether you want to build muscle mass or merely maintain it .
  21. Yes, that is correct. That is why it's important to actually measure your own individual body's repsonse to all types of food you eat or want to eat. Buy a cheap BG meter (they even give it away for free sometimes) and some test strips and measure your Blood glucose response after eating say 100 grams of almonds. Then you have the best pictture of what happens and how much you can eat of a certain food.
  22. Difficult without knowing your whole, complete and honest daily diet. People tend to cheat and then lie about it. Cholesterol figure means little without the breakdown between HDL and LDL and far more important, the size of the LDL particles, which they dont measure in SA as far as i know. It is known for total cholesterol to sometimes go up, but that is mostly the HDL part, the good part !
  23. I experienced the same the first 2 weeks. Added 2 grams of extra salt a day to a litre extra water a day. That fixed it for me. I also dehydrated quickly in this time. Now I dont take added salt anymore and the headaches/light headiness are long gone.
  24. It's a big problem. You basically have to rebuy your pantry (spens ) . Cheese and eggs have become a staple for me. Olives and olive oil as well. Ditto for Avocado's. Meats we rotate between bacon, fish, sardines, ham, beef , chicken, sausages etc, etc. I look for the meats with the MOST fat to buy! But they should have no carbs added.
  25. You are right. I was also surprised to see how many sugar and carbs are in packaged foods. Read labels carefully. Dried fruits are so nice, but high in sugar and carbs. I might eat 1 dried peach some days as a snack, if I did not eat other carb snacks during the day. Some days I eat 2 Pro-vitas as snack. Sometimes a slice of pitza or 3-4 strawberries. But I rarely snack. I eat a full breakfast of 3-4 fried eggs in a lot of butter topped with about 80 grams of gouda cheese, which I buy in bulk @ R45/kg. Lunch will be some kind of meat with olives and vegatables plus some cheese. Dinner pretty much the same. I love to stirfry veggies in a lot of olive oil. Delicious ! then there is sugar free jelly and cheescake for desserts. Coffee with lots of full fresh cream and no sugar ! Tea I drink with artificial sugar sometimes. I have added a little bit milk back as well since I keep losing weight and I have to stabilize at some point. My blood sugar is very low and constant now and very responsive to my body's insulin. BG only goes up to about 5.5 after meals and come down very fast back to 4 - 4.5.
