  1. Now that is the question...hopefully as soon as the bonus comes in and by then the excitement would have worn off so I trust I would make a more unemotional decision. Might be hopeful but I'm hoping the current Giant Anthems will go on an insane sale by then...
  2. Reviving this thread. I had the privilege of doing the wine to whales on the Epic Evo 8. I rented it for the last 2 stages cause the first stage broke me on my HT, a lot of back pain. Wow what a life changing experience, it's not just a little better, it was 1000 times more comfortable. It literally reignited my love for mountain biking. The ease of descending is a given, but what really stood out to me was how well the bike climbed on rocky sections. There wasn't one moment where I felt I had to lock out the rear, the magic that specialized used on the geometry needs to be studied. I am 1.9m tall and I felt planted in the bike. This has never happened before. Life changed, coming from someone who has never been a specialized fan. I am converted
  3. I discovered this bike this morning at our local bikeshop. Another great option, AL frame, Shimano 7 speed trigger shifter and HYDRAULIC disk brakes. Seems like a great all rounder
  4. I'm thumb sucking a bit here, but the cones were in the left lane, across the entire lane. About 4 or 5 cones evenly spaced. So the guys in the front of the group could spot them and just split through the gaps but the rest of the group were caught off guard and caused swerving and sudden braking in the group.
  5. Where the R312 crosses the R304.
  6. Sick bike, looks like it could be fun and really really light in comparison to the bikes I have seen.
  7. What bike did you end up getting?
  8. The Sprocket bikes do look like an great option as well, One thing I am worried about is the weight, I see they are made out of steel. Anyone with first hand experience with the bikes? Edit I see they weigh 9.65, so great option.
  9. Thanks everyone. The scott does look cool with the brush finish and I prefer the rigid fork as well. I'll keep you guys posted on what I find. Appreciate all the insights,
  10. Here are the photos, going for R5000
  11. Thanks for the feedback, on the roxters. There is a secondhand one available, if I can get it at a good deal would it be worth it then?
  12. Hi Everyone, It is almost my boys birthday and I am looking for a 20" bike. Any experience with the following bikes? Is there value in a fork on these bike other than "it looks cool" AVALANCHE Flash 20" Disc Hydraulic Disk TITAN RACING Calypso 20" Mechanical Disk TITAN RACING Player Jr. 20" Mechanical Disk ZINI Z20 Disc Boys Mechanical Disk Scott Roxter 20". Mechanical Disk without fork
  13. I started in the AL group and can confirm our first bit of the neutral "25kph" section definitely felt faster. Overall great race, apart from the cones being packed out across the road to indicate the turnoff to the short route. Barely held on the first 40kms but after that could remain in the pack so I was in the purple a few times. About 25kms from the end I got caught behind someone who had a flat and how I remained upright was a miracle seeing that our wheels touched and I couldn't get past. All that for my chain to fall off 10kms from the end shifting onto the big ring, how that happened I still have no idea so I had a solo ride for the last 10kms. I lost about 5min so I am bit disappointed I couldn't finish with the group but I see I still finished within the first 50% of the group so not too bad I guess. Great weather and vibe at the end with my boys and wife waiting at the finish line. Next year I think I am trying the MTB
  14. What a fun ride and great weather. Will definitely be back again. I started in the B bunch but soon found myself alone between the A and the B bunch. Must say the only advantage I had on the HT was coming down the downhill section at the Bainskloof turnoff. Just not fast enough to close gaps to gravel bikes so spent the first 35km alone. Was finally caught and could finish the race in a group. My endurance definitely ran out from about 65kms and was just holding on for dear life. Next year will hope to start in the A bunch and just hold on😅
  15. Hi Everyone, I have entered, anyone who has done it before. What would work better a hardtail MTB with tyres pumped for speed, or a gravel bike but that is possibly a bit heavier than the HT?
  16. To my understanding the Shimano 12 speed groupos are only available in the hydraulic versions. There aren't any rim brake option. So I am 99% sure its will be hydraulic brakes on both bikes. Some 11 speed bikes could still use mechanical brakes.
  17. Was thinking the same thing. In school I did some school series XCO, back then going down stairs on our 26ers were seen as technical, now its not even a feature.
  18. Wow now that is an eye opener... anyone else with similar experience ?
  19. Hi everyone, Any idea why this was cancelled ? Was really looking forward to it
  20. Grok seems to be aligned with some of the comments I've heard from friends. A friend of mine has done it on a duel suspension and a gravel bike, without a doubt the duel suspension wins. You might see a marginal gain on the flat sections but the overall discomfort on the gravel bike might not be worth the marginal gain. The first climb and downhill section is really rocky. I've had a few moments in the race where I would pass my buddies up the hills on my hardtail for them just to fly past me down the other side.
  21. Hi Everyone, I'm looking for a seatpost clamp to mount an extra bottle cage. Anyone have one laying around in the 31.6mm size for scotts? Awkward size
  22. I second the Scott BOA Comp MTB. I’m on my second pair.
  23. Thanks everyone for the help. Got Sorted
  24. Now that is an interesting piece of information I did not know about. I luckily have a strap already buuuuut would i then be able to use extended display mode from my Epix to display on the Edge 130? Could be useful if I ever wanted to get the edge again. I sold an old forerunner and Edge 530 to be able to afford the epix, wanted to have everything on one device. I love it but now and then on the bike I do miss the edge.
  25. What a deal thanks. Where are you located? I've sent a DM, but if whatsapp works easier please send me a message. Jasper 0767802542
