  1. The PPA site has been updated to show 108km as well. I think that's the new official distance.
  2. I agree. Is there ANY manufacturer that will cover everything?
  3. I think that only apples to events like Roller Coaster and Bay City, not general riding.
  4. Ok, that would make sense in this case. It's too early for them to have done all corrections.
  5. This whole racing licence thing seems like a bit of a farce to me. Anriette Schoeman was the official ladies winner for the Herald cycle Tour, but she was actually far from being first. It just doesn't make sense. http://www.bitsandpcs.co.za/images/herald.jpg
  6. Move to Cape Town and join PPA - Medallion Tour de Stellenbosch 101km is R95 to enter. Bay City 84km is R90.

  8. They've now said that late entries will be the same price a pre-entries. I think they realise people are having problems with their stupid system.
  9. You can use any old skewer, even the one that's on your bike. My LBS put one of these all metal ones on the wheel that I bought for training. http://www.bitsandpcs.co.za/images/skewer.jpg
  10. I've found that mine has to hold on to the frame. The holding clamp is too big even for a 31.6mm seatpost. I'm sure the Tork will be the same as the clamp seems to be identical.
  11. I have the Ryder stand which is very similar and I haven't had any problems with it. One difference is that it has metal clamps instead of plastic. They sell for around R1100. Here are some detailed pics: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.215636568580514.65375.100968596713979&type=3
  12. Here is their annual report, freely available on the PPA website: http://www.pedalpower.org.za/wp-content/plugins/downloads-manager/upload/2013%20AGM%20book%20Final.pdf
  13. Below is a response from the organiser of the Roller Coaster after being asked why there is such a difference in cost between his ride and Bay City. "n terms of the associated cost, we as Round Table together with the Noddy Christmas Party run this event as our charity fund raiser and thus do need to clear some profit. Of said amount we spend at least 88% on charitable causes, thanks to volunteers and lean overhead costs. Our event did experience major cost increases and in 2012, despite our sponsors and volunteers, the amount cleared was so limited that we were considering not hosting the event in future. This year we decided to proceed with the event, but to balance entry fees accordingly. For information, cost increases factored in were the following: - A 50% year on year increase in charges for traffic officers - Additional equipment inclusive of two sets of electronic timing mats - Metal badges - as per cyclist requests Having a look at the entry fees for Bay City, it is somewhat below the average and we can only assume that the race is sponsored better, assume more entries than Rollercoaster, or some other factor apply. We do congratulate the organizers in any event and wish them a good safe race. I trust the above clarifies matters somewhat and wish you a good cycling season. Kind Regards, Cronje (from the Peninsula 77 team)"
  14. The Outriders have various rides ranging between 35 and 50 odd km's on a Saturday and a longer ride on a Sunday. They leave from Planet Fitness in Parklands.
  15. Ah, thank you everyone! It makes all the difference in google if you know what it's called! At least it seems simple and cheap enough to sort out.
  16. Hi, Yesterday I did the Bouckaert-Soenen 72km and all was fine with the bike apart from the brake incident which was my own idiocy. After the lucky draw, I saw the chain had come off the front rings. I battled to put it back on, and once I had, noticed this piece of metal with the word 'token' on it sticking though the chainring. Does anyone have an idea as to its purpose? I'm not sure if it bent while I was attempting to put the chain back on. I also can't find any images of derailleurs with a piece like that. This is a Sora derailleur on a Silverback Strela 3. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. Thanks. http://www.bitsandpcs.co.za/images/frontder.jpg
  17. If one of these is your 3rd or worse results, 3 rides will be used. If one of these is your second highest, it will count 50% and the highest the other 50%. If one of these is your best result, it will count 100%. That is slightly different to what PPA say but it's been like that for quite a while that I've seen.
  18. I wouldn't worry about it too much. You'll soon see if you are suited to group I or not and once you've done a few rides, your future seeding will reflect where you should be. I reckon your group position in Tour de PPA means that you should be moving up. I actually think there was a bug before and now it's been fixed. Because Die Burger is a seeding ride with a timing mat in the middle of the course, it can comprise 100% of your seeding rides with no penalty. Before last week, my seeding comprised of 3 rides and now it is just Die Burger because that is my best so far.
  19. I use Xtenex laces which are excellent. They've never needed adjusting since I bought them at the 2 Oceans expo in 2010. Unfortunately I don't know exactly who stocks them, but they are available in SA. http://xtenex.com/
  20. Tracetec does just that. The unit only weighs 10g.R65 per month. http://www.tracetec.net/news-get-your-bicycle-back-tracetec-launches-tracking-and-recovery-product-for-bicycles.php
  21. Those shops only stock Bullet spray which have a 5% Oleoresin Capsicum content. Swat has 10%, but it's hard to find. I got one with a direct stream called Snotklap from Outdoor Geek in Brackenfell.
  22. Your number and purchased timing chip can be collected at: Cycle Centre, Edward Street, Bellville, Selective House on Friday the 10 January from 14h00 to 19h00.
  23. Mothers and Others do a +/- 1.5 hour ride every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8am. They meet at the curved wall that says 'Bloubergstrand' opposite Doodles Restaurant on the beachfront.
  24. From their website: If you do not own an About2Time timing chip you should purchase one for R50 if you would like an official time and a completion photo.
