Only the people who started on the mountain side could enter from that side. Same on the other side. The middle entrance was for both. This should have helped to minimise criss-crossing when going to the loading pens.

From what I can see, the section with those reeds is called The Barrel. What they refer to as Ho Chi Minh is part of the Simonsberg Conservancy trails according to the signs I saw. The people at Dirtopia will be able to give you more information though.

I almost got taken out in Fish Hoek by an old woman driving on the main road from the opposite direction who turned in front of me. I slammed on brakes and she eventually saw me and stopped within a half metre of me. I certainly can't blame the marshal as he was doing his job stopping the cars coming out of the side street. It wouldn't surprise me if she had the attitude that was mentioned in this post. I did battle quite a bit, especially with the wind and bike issues, but it was a good well organised race which I will certainly do again.

You still need an event sticker to put on your PPA number. I wouldn't go out of my way to collect it though. Just get it on the morning.

I have a Ryder dual action pump which works well enough when I need to just top up air pressure while out on the trail. I'd say the bomb would be used more when you replace a tube. As for the pressure, it's up to you depending on what sort of riding you do. There isn't one straight answer to that.

Actually the announcement to stop the race was made just after 10 already as they said then the temperature had reached 40 degrees. My day didn't start out well, with a puncture in the start chute. The second puncture happened 23 km's in just before the railway crossing on Kromme Rhee Road. The last spare tube burst after using a bomb to inflate it because I didn't put it on the rim properly. That was the end of it for me - probably a good thing.

Just be glad they used your 2014 99er and not your 2013 one because the seeding on that would be lower because of the penalties. Your 2014 99er is probably also better than your 2013 Argus, which is why they used it, so that works to your benefit.

Your times in your previous races would suggest between 5:30 and 6 hours. It's almost the same distance as Tour de Stellenbosch on Sunday. Use your time there as a much better guide. The big problem with groups like PA is that there aren't any bunches to pull you.
