  1. My 5 year old readily rides 5-6km. These rides include: multiple "picnic" stops, a playground stop, playing in the river, looking for treasure among lots of other general exploring. Fun factor is important.
  2. I want to thank everyone that has contributed to this thread for ruining my ability to enjoy a ride. Every blade of grass that brushes my leg, every suspicious looking stick in the trail, every noise in the bushes next to me as I ride is of course the largest, most aggressive puff adder cobra mamba. I now ride in fear and paranoia, cheers!
  3. Edit: More gracious response from admin below
  4. OP I'm so sorry about your assault, it is completely unacceptable for any adult to resort to violence. There are always two sides to the story. In this case the other side seems something along the lines of "my fragile and infantile ego was hurt by someone that dared comment on my inconsiderate behaviour, and I am a giant dwis" I was once chased, as he attempted to run me off the road multiple times, for over 40 minutes by a motorist that took offense that I flashed my lights at him. (After he had flashed me to pull over where it was impossible to do so) The point is, some people are just unhinged and need to be dealt with accordingly.
  5. Fellow Paarlite, howsit! For reference, I sent a bike from Paarl to Jhb on Thursday with TCG, R527 was the damage.
  6. USE BIKEHUB PAY.
  7. What he said. My son also has an SE, I got it for a bargain and worth every cent imo. The parts are quality. I reckon I could ride the thing and not break it. I did have to put a shorter stem and zero setback seatpost though, he's also just turned 5. The gears are superb. Great range and as crisp as my GX.
  8. https://www.hellopeter.com/tech-global Reading this should tell you everything you need to know.... Wouldn't order from them if my life depended on it.
  9. Ha ha, all good! Seeing as it's the stock parts, I imagine he just added tubeless tape, valves and sealant. Will give it a go this weekend.
  10. What did it take to go tubeless? I want to do the same on my son's.
  11. I encountered two puffy's mating at Boschendal a few months back. I noped out of there very quickly. Also see a lot of snakes at Plaisir. Big Cobra and a puffy on my last ride there. Might use adult diapers instead of cycling shorts from now on.
  12. Got some kit I'm giving away. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/baggy/596195/free-mtb-kit
  13. I'm not a member of the club so no thanks. Why comment on this thread instead of asking the keyboard warriors for their addresses, so you can go talk to them in person? Why did your club hide behind their keyboards and send a threatening letter to their entire database instead of confronting offenders to their face? Anyway, this has long been resolved, so you just wasted our time, and you couldn't even do it on a Friday...
  14. I'm not sure why this is such a difficult thing to accept. If Pyga can build high quality carbon and Alu frames at the bottom of Africa, I'm sure the Swiss can do it too.

  16. I live in Paarl, travel to Franschhoek a few times a week, and I didn't know about the race until I was passing groups of cyclists.
  17. Not a roadie but after driving past the Boland 100 miler last week, there is just no way I would ever pay to ride on open pubic roads.
  18. The venue is Laborie so I would assume the Paarl DH track (or one of the derivatives), Laborie down and maybe something at Specialised. This is where I do my usual 28km loop from and it's about 1100m of climbing...
  19. Does OP ride a tri-spoke SS around muizenberg by any chance?
  20. 1 year older but with better suspension, higher spec gears and most with dropper posts. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/570070/scott-spark-930-l-fox-1x12 https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/592849/scott-spark-930 https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/578396/scott-spark-930-l-2018-fox-dropper https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/585721/scott-spark-930 https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/593843/scott-spar-930-2018 I'll give you 20k for your 970 (This does not constitute a formal offer and is not legally binding)
  21. Starts thread asking for opinions. Fights everyone with a different opinion. Glws.
  22. I've run Shimano pedals since 1999 and never experienced play as you have described. Recently sold my XT pedals that I had for 4 years. Not a single mishap from them. Currently on XT trail pedals and they are the best I've had yet.
  23. I'm not a member nor do I ride the trails so I have no horse in this race. I do find it laughable though that the club has 1.6m in their account, but complains about the cost/effort of repairing trails. Isn't that literally what a portion of the membership fees are for? The closest analogy I can think of is a golf course threatening to PK members for destroying the fairways with divots. It's part of the game, intentional or not. IMO the club must do their jobs and use the member's fees to fix the berms instead of threatening violence.
  24. Standard stem is 50mm, handlebars 570mm wide, flat. I put on a Rapide 35mm stem and the bars came off a Rook SS. Think they are like 550mm wide with a 15/20mm rise. Standard seatpost looks about 50mm setback. I can't see any reason to get the trail version over this.
  25. Mate from Jhb was down for the weekend so took him to a few of the nicest spots in the Winelands: Paarl mountain (Laborie, Specialized), Plaisir and a quick loop at Banhoek to round off the weekend. Only rode 58km but did 1850m of climbing.
