I don't think that anyone expects organisers to run an event at cost, you wanna make money obviously, but try bringing costs down but employing locals. One wonders how much actually goes back into the local communities.

Either way its a hell of a lot of money. Do the pro's pay to race?

Why not just make the race a reasonble amount, a certain amount of entries and maybe use the locals to be marshals & to man the water tables. A lot of races are at already existing courses, so trail maintenace is already taken care of.

I think if there are still places to be filled on race day then fill them, obviously not having more then allowed. I like riding but should one be excluded all the times cause one can't afford it, I could afford it, but there are a hell of a lot more that can't. The problem lies when even the small races start to get expensive, cause they too will one day want to be big and exclusive.

People schedules differ, so should they be excluded because of this? You've also got to remeber not everyone earns a fat salary, but they would still like to ride the odd race, again these people get exluded cause there bank balances dictate it. I'm not saying the organisers cant make a profit, just make it more reasonable. What some percieve as reasonable may not be to others. Its not an elitest sport, or is it?

Your'e not the only one that thinks this, it is getting crazy. Most of the guys I ride with all say the same thing. You just gotta select the better races and do them. Unfortunatly Karkloof is one of the better ones and I will not pay the R230 late fee.

How does one know what stem length to use? I have a spare FSA stem(OS 90) which I have from a previous upgrade( Giant Trance). I currently have a 130mm and it weighs as much a small elephant. So is there a way to check that this will work for me on my GT Avalanche, my LBS said I should measure my top tube(570mm, I measured from centre of headset along the toptube to the centre of the downtube) Are there any other measurments I need to give myself a rough idea(ie height, arm lengh etc). I do realise that my seat may need to move back as well. I am also looking at a new seatpost. I never had much hassle with my old set up except the odd lower back pain, I never had a proper setup done, the bike was used mainly for commuting. Since upgrading to be able to take it offroad now, it doesn't seem to handle like it should, just doesn't seem that responsive. Many thanks

I want to upgrade my stem, seatpost & handlebars - What brands to look out for and how will I know which stem is right for me? The current stem is very long, do I try set it up the same as my full suspension bike. I wanna go with a riser bar(no bar-ends) again, how do I know whats right for me?
