  1. I really do not see the point of a support car in the cradle. There are two places where these cars can park and can be on the scene within 5 minutes if you just ride within the cradle boundary. The first car can be parked on the Lion/Rhino Park circle coverring the roads to the caves as well as the road part Rhino/Lion Park. The second car can be parked @Bidon coverring the road leading to Beyers Naude as well as the road going towards Avianto. The parts on Beyers Naude can be mix between car1 and car2 depending on the location. When riding in the cradle with your car on a weekend just relax, smile and wave. Getting all worked up is not worth it. I do have this attitude when leaving the cradle after riding. If there are big bunches in front of me taking up the whole road I will wait untill it is safe to pass.
  2. First things first...from the pic you have shared you do not have cable brakes but hydraulic brakes. You will not find a cable anywhere in that setup. So remove the word cable in your description. If your brakes was not up to scratch it could've been worn pads or air in the system. I would re-install the brake hose...look at the condition of the pads(if needed replace) and then top up with mineral oil...bleed the brakes and finally top up again with oil.
  3. The rain played major havoc with a few guys decided to call it a day. One of my friends were riding and what seemed to a puddle was a somewhat deep hole, they also had some smallish hail along the route. I think with the weather this year made the challenge extra tough.

    MTB Tyres

I will also look at Spez tires... @Sh4mir there are some 2.6 tyres at Evobikes. Was just asking what is the feeling on those tyres as the original Maxiss tyre is not available. The issue on my wife's E-Bike is that the rear is a 27.5 and front 29.

    Hot Foot

If it was there from the start I would've know something is not right. If I had the issue from the start I would've returned the shoes. Will look at small adjust ments and take it from there.

    Hot Foot

If it is the case then surely I would've felt it earlier and not after 3 months of regular riding?

    Hot Foot

I bought myself new MTB shoes about 3 months back. Never had any issues but during my last few rides I experienced this hot foot sensation and sore feet while pedalling. Quick search listed a few causes. My question is nothing changed and I made sure that my cleats were positioned correctly. My question Why Now? or is it just something that was not right from the start and now just reached a peak? How do I fix it?
  8. My wife is in need of new rear tyre for her E-Bike. It is currently fitted Maxxis Minion DHR 2.60 tyres. Looking for tyres found the following: Vittoria Barzo 27.5 x 2.60 TNT Graphene 2.0 and Pirelli Scorpion 27.5 x 2.6 Enduro Mixed/TL Tyre. Can only find a direct replacement in the size of a 2.80, but I do not know if it will fit. Your views on tyre choices?
  9. I feel basically the same as the Tour Durban race...due to Covid the route was moved again, but the issue is the route. Last time the route was changed at the last minute due to protests on the road this was in 2019. We accepted it and thought that it was just a once off but now it seems that the shorter route is the new route but now consists of 2 - 3 laps for the longer distance. If I want to ride a lap race I will enter an EXO MTB race. The old route with the climb into Pinetown was nice as the climb stretched out the field nicely, during the last race with no major climb the bunches was massive and basically nowhere to move. I will not ride and only if the route change back to the old route I will ride it again.
  10. The unit is displaying incorrect HR data. Tried different straps and the result is the same. When just riding casually on a flat section the hr jumps to 240 and the next moment 0. When climbing and I'm putting in some effort it displays 60 then jumps to 80 and then for a brief few seconds it displays more or less the correct hr at that moment. At first it was only for a few seconds and progressively it is getting worse and worse. Tried new batteries in the strap but it does not make a diffirence. Also reset the device to factory settings and paired the strap again without success.
  11. My Polar V650 decided to call it a day and now looking at options to replace it. Saw a few Garmin units for sale but without a heart rate strap. A new strap will be in the region of R1500. Question: Is the Polar heart rate strap compatible with Garmin or will only a Garmin strap work? Thanks
  12. No MTB event anywhere on DSTV...this is just poor
  13. Basically just car insurance. My Gravel bike that is valued at R53k is coverred on the R1 cover
  14. I'm with King Price and yes two of my bikes are insured with R1 deal. Had 3 claims for damages on the bike as well as a helmet claim which was settled promptly after providing details and quotations.
  15. Thanks for the replies, will look into the aspect of cornering. What I have noticed is that the front shock is very hard, althought it is set at 100psi. Tyres are 200 KPA front and rear. The pressures were indicated by the bikeshop that we should run when the bike was collected. I'm new to the e-bike environment hence all these questions.
  16. Thanks for the replies...forgot about this question posted. Had a look at the tyres again and the front is listed as Maxxis DHF with EXO, the rear is listed as Maxxis DHR II also EXO. Reason for the question although it is an e-bike she does not use full power and at a slower speeds in some coners she mentioned that it feels as if there is no grip.
  17. How much of a difference is there between a normal (Trail/XCO) tyre and a downhill purpose tyre? My wife bought herself an E-Bike and I saw that the tyres fitted is Maxiss Minion DH tyres. I'm not sure about the purpose of DH tyres on a normal albeit heavier bike.
  18. Anybody with an old 7spd rear derailleur? Need one for my garden engineer. Trying to fix his bike that is in a terrible condition.
  19. In my opinion do the 25km race seeing that it is your first race. In your first race the conditions for racing is unknown, do the race to the best of your abilities and after do a recap as where you were in race. Look at your strategy e.g. water table stops, nutrition on the bike (drinking at intervals), terrain (did you feel comfortable on the tech sections) etc. Once this is known you can plan your next race based on the lessons learnt from your first race. Good Luck
  20. Titan or Silverback are great bikes. As suggested many times on the forum(previous info questions) try to ride these bikes and see which one you prefer. Also look at the 2nd hand market for a bike with some decent components. Just did a quick search on the classified pages and saw 45 hardtail bikes in the sizes of M and L as most of us fall in this bike size category.

    Magalies Monster

Even the original 45km mini monster was tough...although shorter it is still a brutal race... You need to be prepared for a long day on the bike
  22. As far as I know EB license allows you to tow a trailer/caravan with run in brakes with a mass below 3500kg. There is also a formula for the max available weight you need to tow. As for bigger vechicles you will need a C license for Bus or a smaller Truck. When you want to two something with these you need to upgrade to EC1.
  23. The cheapest option for a tubeless conversion is the DIY method. Set of tubeless valves max R200, Rim Tape (prefer Gorilla tape) R150, Sealant R400. Seeing that you want to upgrade the tyres the cost is already mentioned at about R1400 for the set. If a LBS need to do the conversion it will cost about R900 per wheel and you still need to buy extra sealant for your own top up purposes. There is so much information available online for tubeless conversions.
  24. Used to make use of the Krugersdorp branch when the two old guys were still there. The one died and the other guy was told to stay at home apparently. The one guy knew me well and always greeted me on my name. If I ever wanted something he will always help and also gave me some extra discount (His words don't tell anyone about your price which was more like 50% off). Fast forward new owners re-vamped shop and expensive. Wanted rim tape a while ago and while I was in town I decided that I would pop into the store to get some. The tape was very expensive and for the price of the roll just to do one wheel I could buy tape at another bikeshop enough for two wheels for the price they were asking. The sad part is that that store will most likely stay open as most of their clients seems to be the local commuters. Cadence World is a very good place looking for service, great staff always willing to help. Communication from them regarding orders is also top notch.
  25. We did basic camping for years just with a normal Venter Trailer with tent, chairs, gas bottels, stretchers etc. We started off with a Coleman Cooler Box that keeps ice longer intact to have meat freezed for longer periods. It worked well untill we bought a camping freezer that uses 220v as we never went off grid to justify the 12v/gas units. The cooler was relegated to "Fridge" duties to have milk and cold drinks cold and some things that do not require a freezer. Most of the stuff was kept in the trailer and the only thing that was added was clothes and food. The freezer would fit nicely in the rear of the Touran. We went camping for about 10days during Decemeber and never had any issues. The benefit of regularly camping is that you decide what works for you. With time you will soon realise that most stuff that you carry extra is rarely used or never at all.
