  1. You gonna have to catch me first!
  2. You joke.. this is also on my shopping list. http://www.bobs-bicycles.com/images/W/Maxxis-Holy-Roller-Tire.jpg
  3. Thanks for the review Iwan, had the Ibex on my mind for a while, glad I found this... one question; were you able to test it on some dry, loose-over-hardpack? The 55a almost says it will offer grip in this condition but would be good to hear the real world verdict. Slightly strayed from the tyre tested, does anyone have experience with 60tpi? Looking for a strong sidewall that can handle hard cornering.
  4. Your three main points in the post are as follows: “50 cyclists fined on the 1.5km long 'cork tree trail’” “Black Hill route [attempted mugging].. where were the TMNP field rangers?” “I hiked the pipe track above Camps Bay and there were so many people on the track..” My comments on these points are as follows: 50 cyclists caught in an area where they should not be cycling. (Assuming you want to know actual facts about this, I'm open to discuss this in more detail should you wish.) The current Black Hill track is not on Table Mountain National Park land. This is a CoCT initiative and safety is a factor I did try highlighting at the start of the construction process.. I do get your reference however, you are insinuating that people being fined in Cecelia is more important than muggers being chased by Table Mountain National Park rangers. (linked to point 1 regarding access, also open to discuss in more detail.) More people on the mountain = less muggings. A concept shared by all reps not just those saying it - it is pure logic, an increased number on the mountains pushes criminal element out by reducing opportunity. Not to say it is the absolute solution but does contribute heavily towards safety - Added to numbers, cleaning up areas and developing a facility to physically accommodate more people welcomes the public in in a controlled, enjoyable and sustainable manner. It does however require a process to identify and meet the requirements, a process currently underway. What I do want to state is that any attempt to bypass the process required by several conservation acts, and also from a user fairness point of view cannot offer any long lasting results. Tokai reps have tried for years and it was only when we embarked on following process that we started seeing results. It is the law and one the employes of this National Park are required to follow. Think of it as someone's job, not doing it is as much a problem as not getting what we want through trying to circumvent process.
  5. Say that again?!?! How many?
  6. I wouldn't mind a few hand-me-downs in that range either. Morning.
  7. Posted Yesterday, 18:02 Eddy Gordo, on 06 Aug 2015 - 6:31 PM, said: Eddy, sorry this one slipped through without being noticed.. I understand Mark's hesitance to go into detail with the recent misunderstanding about opening dates but I have a bit more info on this and will be able to elaborate. Important to mention at this point that until the ground study is complete, no trail discussion here is cast in stone but I can certainly try to convey the motivation being seen on both sides of the fence. To answer your question in short, yes.. The long story.. is that the ground study (TRRP - rationalisation) will include the areas; Silvermine, Tokai and Vlakkenburg. An obstacle that needs to be considered is that a lot of what is planned in undisturbed areas will almost without doubt trigger a NEMA study and for this and to help avoid delays, the two Tokai adjacent areas will be included in the TRRP. NB, NEMA will drag the process out extensively, especially in undisturbed areas but this is not to say it cannot be done. As an indication to how real the possibility of more trails on that side is (while staying under the radar), I have already been sent out at Park's request before the fire to scope the possible Tokai/Silvermine singletrack link. Two trails are now on the table that both minimises disturbance while keeping the lengths below EIA thresholds. As far as more trails in Silvermine are concerned, there really is only one other viable route which was historically in existence. It has been plotted at a TMMTB forum workshop and based on it's existence, getting around NEMA should be easier and quicker than combing new trails throughout the reserve. Vlakkenburg is another story, it's the Mast but off-road. Categorised as "wilderness"!! Determination should your motivation Did I understand your question?? If not, oooops, hope you enjoyed the read none-the-less
  8. Sorry but someone has to say it, this whole trial basis thing is a f up. Planned as a means to circumvent process, it has caused confusion, stress and lead to the experience you have endured. Do not expect it to happen before the EMP is signed off, eta December.
  9. You shouldn't be. My suggestion is to let this go. There will always be people sniping and his guy does not have a history of taking pot shots at the committee.
  10. Right. I'm about to get upset. Take this offline if you would kindly.
  11. Access not really a big issue now, the place is destroyed, we all know that. Process and planning is critical right now and rationalisation will get all the info we need on where the future trails will be routed. We have a terms of reference document for this project which obviously secures access to ground truth. The consultant needs to be paid to carry out the rationalisation.. this is also a consideration for the short-term. Thanks for the support.
  12. Slapsock, Vision created and presented, response from the business development unit expressing interest and setting the direction for future management, rationalisation process and EMP process linked and deliverables committed to dates. Stakeholder meetings and comments from other users planned and invitations to representative groups to be sent out soon. What needs to be made clear is that the intention is to have the trails/some of the trails ready before the area opens. This requires a whole new trail plan due to the change in landscape, new conservation requirements and the requirement to establish a product designed for all that creates a flow to minimise conflict. Funding interest is growing and a few possible personalities to possibly be flown in to assist in trails planning. Public participation process coming, you will be informed through various media and can comment of the various presentations.
  13. ..bizarre how the events have conspired against mountain biking this year. Not only Tokai, but Jonkershoek and Welvanpas also going up in flames. Then to rub it in, Zuma conspires further and opens his mouth plunging the fuel price into uncharted territory. Really?
  14. It's easy to knock the efforts of some and never realize the repurcussion. You will be surprised how we are judged, your comment earlier being prime. I'm not surprised he reacted like he did.
  15. Guys please. Raptor. I've been involved for enough time to know the workings of the system quite well. Truth is one cannot be on guard ALL the time and time meeting with them is better spent focussing on the issues at hand rather than gagging over a short term closure after a devastating fire. As you say, focus should be on working towards the timeframe of reopening. 18 months is fast track when you compare it to the 4 year projection of creating a world class facility. There are many more issues that affect the outcome of new trails than speeding up the closure. Many factors affect the trails, one of them being the change in landscape in a world heritage site, natural wonder, national reserve with red data list species needing conservation. Some more understanding would be welcome.
  16. Hold on. No no panties will be drawn at the dawn of crack here. If anyone is to blame it would be me. I have been asking the questions and I should have known better that the term "Silvermine" would be the one spilt into east and west. Truth is I know their strategies and especially the area manager's crafty answers, I could have kicked myself to think it was a straight answer..
  17. Every dog with an activity card in CT is going to be overjoyed. Mind your step..
  18. There are some who refuse to believe this or accept it as a point for the unwillingness to get behind the ideas we had for any expansion. Basically, we could not be trusted to keep off the horse trails after making promises that an expanded DH trail, one that completes the trail from the top, is all the guys were looking for. Within weeks the trail Renaissance Man and I had closed without the help of those making the promises was reopened and despite several efforts from both Parks and the mountain bike community, it remained open and festered in the mind of the new section manager who felt betrayed for committing to us - in good faith. Hands up those who on a daily basis had to contend with the constant nag for more trails, and on the flip side the nag to live up to the promises that "won" 3 new sections of a trail running through restored fynbos. Simple fact, the 10 percent killed it for the 90.
  19. Silvermine's reopening is expected at the end of this month. Panties back in handbags.
  20. By saying it's their event, their problem, you absolve yourself from the issue. Do you cycle? Now, if you were to support the organisers in their already accepted challenge of fighting crime, you would not only be supportive of the immense responsibility you so easily dish out, you would also play a vital role in everyone's future. Start a wave of support, it's the only viable option a community has.
  21. :-(
  22. ..and that was that.
