  1. This was my first event where there was mud, and I'm struggling to understand what everyone's issue is? It caused major traffic jams on the route as everyone tried to dodge the mud or trundle around it. I actually came to a complete stop a few times just to wait for traffic dawdling past a puddle. Maybe I don't understand as I come from an MX background, but isn't getting covered in mud part of the fun? I couldn't wait to charge through the puddles and get a bit grimy, and slip and slide through some mud patches. It is a MTB race after all? I got annoyed with my teammates worrying about the mud, so did a high speed manual past them through one of the puddles and sprayed them on purpose. After that they didn't care about staying clean and everyone had a more relaxed and faster ride as they didn't waddle through the dirty patches anymore. If you don't want to get dirty, buy a road bike or play tennis...
  2. I enjoyed it. Rode it with family who are part of our TB team, so had to slow down substantially in the last 15km. I found the water tables well stocked and full, but we finished in 2h20 so relatively early vs some of the later guys. Only complaint I have was the water table at the finish. Lots of guys were finishing at the time we were, so you had to stand in liner and the tannies manning the stand weren't very friendly. Oh, and this is partly me needing to HTFU and/or buy a FS bike, but the grass... So much grass! Hate riding on grass.
  3. Agree. Way too often we try to get as much dynamic range into a photo as possible, but that would have made this an average picture of a dirt path and trees. That's a great image man!
  4. Any plans of having one for us Vaalies in GP?
  5. Thanks for the info Face Plant. Any idea on water points and what they will have? I still remember the OBS from the first checkpoint.
  6. Entered as well. The 2018 Winter Fast One was my first race after 3 weeks of MTB ownership, so excited to go back and see the change in the race and (hopefully) the improvements I've made. That mielieland section was muddy even in August last year, so can only image what it'll look like now after all this rain.
  7. One of the best mtb videos I've seen in a while. The fact that it wasn't just someone doing crazy whips off of every 5cm high pebble was refreshing. That is really close to the edge of reasom though. I mean a mild sneeze could mean he loses his line for a second and boom, 1000m tumble to a horrific, albeit very burly and well documented, death.
  8. Nice one! Care to share your route?
  9. Super cool idea and well executed. unfortunate that it's done to the most hoity-toity brand of frame you can buy...
  10. Out of interest, how comfortable would you say that bike is i.t.o. terrain absorption and fatigue resistance? I'm currently on a HT 29er XC bike (2.1" tyres). I'm looking at getting a bike that's a bit more comfy to ride, but I really don't have the cash for a FS bike, so I'm looking at a plus bike (26" or 650B) as a happy medium. Also, your bike is metal AF (|m|), so I'd love to build one (excluding the juicy Hope components unfortunately).
  11. Entered too. I've been eyeing the Skyrim since its release, so I'm holding thumbs. It's the perfect bike for very professional, serious reasons: Its bright green - the best bike colour there is.It shares the name of one of my favourite video games. It looks badass.
  12. ERRRMAHGEEEERD! That was insane to watch. Such a refreshing take on a MTB edit.
  13. Hi all. I forgot to put this up after the race. I lost my tool can at some stage of the race, only realised at the end when I got off my bike though so not sure where. It was a PRO tool can (one of these below). It was 3 days old only, and contained an inner tube and a very nice Merida multitool. If anyone picked it up somewhere please let me know. Thanks!
  14. On my first big solo ride. While it may seem paltry to the double century 40kph racing snakes, to me it feels like I've climbed a mountain. Having bought my first bike as an adult in mid July with literally zero exercise in the last 4 years, to exceeding my goal for the ride by 12km and 3kph average was monumental. We may not have picturesque mountains, but there's some beauty to be found in JHB if you look for it. Think I'm nearing readiness for my goal of a sub-5 94.7. My legs and lungs should be OK, my chommie not so much...
  15. I'm in full-on crisis 947 training mode due to a hectic travelling schedule the last couple of weeks, so looking at attempting the SBR beast this Sunday for the first time. I'm not looking at getting the KOM, just want to attempt to finish the big loop in under 4hrs if possible (3h59 will be a win in my books). So, any tips for a first-timer? A few questions I have: Are there any water points / shops? I have 2x 600ml bottles and no camelback, so want to have an idea if I should make a plan to carry more water or not.Card payments allowed for entrance/parking?
  16. With that saddle-to-bar drop you either have arms like an urangutan or very hardy balls. Looks sick though.
  17. From my side it was a brilliant event overall, don't really have any complaints except that there was no announcer when we finished. While I understand we were close to last, getting your name called and a congratulations is super motivating. Wouldn't mind if it was a smidge cheaper, but other than that it was near perfect... well except for the grassy sections. They were super uncomfortable and not much fun. May be down to my cheap HT and soft ass though.
  18. Also, front and rear rims aren't rotated the same. Its in the details guys! Also, no human, independent of hotness, can make cycling sunglasses look non-nerdy.
  19. Any info regarding feed stations?
  20. Sure it should be OK. Interested to see the 10km one for my wife's race.
  21. Think I found the route that was run in 2016. Same organizer, same distance, same start location. https://www.strava.com/segments/13115724 Mind confirming it @FeO?
  22. Entered the 60km, wife's doing the 10km. Anyone else entered?
  23. If you're looking at time, know that there is very little straight shot pedalling on the trail, predominantly just the entry and exit drags next to the perimeter fence. Its extremely twisty and mostly soft, flat, sandy corners, so you'll be rubber-banding between corners a lot of the time. Your average speed takes a hit as a result. The yellow trail has some berms which let you keep your speed up, but these are few and far between.
  24. Hi there Shane. Did two loops this Saturday with the wife and little one. Green loop: 10km on the nose https://www.strava.com/activities/1857613444 90% Yellow with the last two red sections thrown in: ~14.3km (negate my ride home) https://www.strava.com/activities/1857867620 To be honest, 99% of BCC is flat, sandy switchbacks. the yellow loop is still easy and the red sections I tried were straight forward too. For reference, the yellow loop deviates from the green loop to add distance, and the red sections are like optional extras to the yellow loop to add some distance and technical difficulty.
  25. Anyone entered this one yet? If Jo Black's going to be performing it may be easier to convince the missus to ride along. I'm assuming the show is included in the race ticket price?
