  1. I was also in A bunch, but the marker was still in the correct position and I did not get lost ( this is almost unusual for me ) It must have been bumped over after I passed, I was in the front 15 to 20, or so guys. I measured 74km. I received initial race results, which were correct as far as I could determine, which now seem to have been adjusted, not so happy with this. As for the route: Please give us more single track, the parts that were single track I really enjoyed, the rest just sort of did not seem well prepared or marked. The race venue was very good and everything else seemed well organised, well done!
  2. I never clean/ wash my chains, use Smoof and Squirt and chain lasts the longest in my experience. I used to wash and degrease the chain after every few rides, chains lasted a lot less. I still clean the cassette and chainrings, but not nearly as often as before. Flame suit on.
  3. Rock and Roll man, Rock and Roll !!
  4. Horrible old tech. Rather do Nobby Nick. ( although it won't last as long) Low tpi count, heavy, very high roll resistance, ' non-linear' grip and loss of grip behaviour. Hardyness is really not the only consideration, depends on your application, riding style etc. Steel wagon wheels are also puncture proof and last long.
  5. The Best!! for me. I think bike shops are like therapists, you need to find the one that works for you.
  6. 7am??
  7. I came, I saw, It rained, I left. Very happy about my choice. Got home in time to have a lekker, if short, pretty dry ride at home. Then had a really good and tough ride at home on Sunday, managed to avoid the mud by riding well drained tracks, just need to know where to go. It has already been has already been a very expensive year with Pioneer, rain in the Cape in Jan and then Dullstroom, enough playing in the F... mud. Well done to the guys who toughed it out, but I am going to skip these rides in future.
  8. What size GT, if its the small carbon 29er frame, then it is one of the sexiest frames around ( Dif from the larger sizes in that it does not have the triangle and the curve of the top tube is awesome. Also, the GT had a dropout which can be swopped from vertical to sliding dropout, not sure the 2014 model has this. Also, great tyre clearance and I think better routing than the Niner.( If its an older model Niner) The choice is not so clear.
  9. Anyway this thread was about Nutritional supplementation, not homeopathy. So many 'medical specialists' on the Hub.
  10. Double blind placebo trials have consistently proven that homoepathic remedies do work. Surgery has the highest placebo effect ( close to 75%). So do not discount placebo. ( ave 33% effective) Homeopathic remedies have been proved to be very effective in the treatment of babies and animals ( both are not susceptible to placebo. Please contact the faculties of homeopathy at Uj and DUT for proper, factual research statistics. Homeopathic remedies are not just simply diluted solutions, the dilution is merely an aspect of the solution. The solution is changed in its structure not so much in its chemical composition. Nice research done in NMR spectroscopy analysis of homoeopathic remedies to illustrate this. Cure like with like is madness, I wonder where vaccinations apply?
  11. Gatorskin 28C are really fine. Wide enough, no need for the 32C or wider.
  12. I am keen to use this option. They have agreed to pick up my tandem in Rivonia. Would anyone else in the Rivonia area like to have their bike collected here.? Its an easy address to find, just off the Rivonia off-ramp ( corner 12th ave), with convenient parking/loading area. PM me so we can coordinate it.
  13. Yip, that was me Now you know the conditions and the very good sidewalk on the other side of the road. A rational debate was out of the question, that okey was woes kwaad. Time to get out of the city. What is the rant part of rant and rave for? It was at speed around a blind corner, so, I did look ahead and luckily used brakes. I'll stop whining now, bra.
  14. JGR, sweetheart, nobody is picking on you. Hypocrisy implies double standards, I was particularly asking for equal standards. I have now relaxed a bit and I hope you are not too upset and can also relax and I will be very mindful of the joggers ( and hopefully you) when next we meet.
  15. Actually both statements ARE true GENERALLY, I did not feel the need to state all the possible exceptions as this involves too much typing. It is merely that there are certain exceptions when this does not count. I stated they should move onto the pavement, this assumes THERE IS A PAVEMENT. Ai JGR, are you just trolling for to make more irritation when this was nicely done by said joggers already? I should have filmed the conditions. I am very happy to share the road and tend to be very courteous and accommodating, just asking for the same consideration
  16. There was a perfectly wide, smooth , open sidewalk available. It is much harder for a cyclist to hop sideways with a big pavement verge than it is for the pedestrian to step sideways, also they can see the oncoming traffic and the cyclist cannot see behind themselves. The fact that I need to explain the problem is weird. I also run and I can do this easily. The cyclist is in the most compromised position, the runner has the most options available to keep both parties safe. If I ride on the sidewalk, I am in their terrain and thus stop or move out of the way.
  17. If you are running into oncoming traffic and there is a cyclist approaching, please move onto the pavement. Its the right thing to do. It may be safer for you to run into oncoming traffic, but it is very much more dangerous for the cyclist, who only has that narrow margin and cannot see behind themselves, so seeing as the law requires the cyclist to use the road and the pedestrian to use the sidewalk, please move over. This may sound like a very obvious point to make, but I seem to come across a lot of militant joggers who think otherwise. The cyclist is going to get caught by traffic from behind and jumping a sidewalk verge sideways is very risky.
  18. Yip, very good grips. Get the right size ones , you will notice that the upper surface is not flat, so, your hands should not slide off or bounce over them on rough terrain. Easy to take off and put on. Not cheap, worth the extra cost. Some sings ze Germans do very well ja!
  19. Smoof!! Like squirt, only it lasts longer, and better in the wet than Squirt.
  20. I am not sure it is any safer riding in a group. Hi-jacking and muggings seem to happen to as many couples and groups as individuals. You are also usually slower in a group, have more valuables, and thus easier and more attractive target. I hope the couple are OK, but I will still be riding in that area, on my own, but just carrying some defensive means and going fast.
  21. So this is where it helps to live in RSA, we have stuff lying around. I used a half a brick to chase a taxidriver down the road the other day, not my classiest moment, but that brick would have been handy in this context.

    Argus 2014

Anybody else think their Expo arrangements are rather a pain? Perhaps it keeps the vagrants out, but seems OTT. The whole Argus experience has become a big effort and expense for a rather short event. Oh well , in for a penny, in for a pound.
  23. Simple numbers/ economics issue also. The number of entrants is inversely proportional to the difficulty of the terrain. Imagine a DH event with 4000 riders. I like technical, marathon distance races, feels like the best blend of required skills. Its a big market out there, so, many tastes to cater for.
  24. I am trying to enter the event, but the website does not allow me to enter a category and then does not allow one to complete the entry. Frustrating!
