  1. I use this bike, it's comfortable and cost less than 5k. About R4700 if memory serves.
  2. Can't say I recall but will look out for you next time. I had White, charcoal and orange BulkSMS kit + same facial expression as you report hehe had a lekka ride in that group though, thanks!
  3. Phew! I'm glad there was actually someone matching that description riding along, thought I was hallucinating
  4. Stig, I started in that group too - what kit were you wearing?
  5. Sounds like enough to start a cult
  6. Perhaps the new seedings are an attempt to motivate more people to enter the seeding events and ensure more money is generated from the higher priced entries to those events that we all train harder so the standard of competition and fitness is raised?
  7. Same, A last year, done 3:03 now I'm down to E - no seeding events though but that didn't seem to matter previous years ....
  8. K@k funny lol - reminded me of this one
  9. Started in F, would like to thank the Outriders guys for controlling the pace and keeping things reserved over Hels - my first funride since the Argus so it was good for the confidence to be able to keep up Tried to work a bit after that but it didn't last that long, dropped off had a good one nonetheless. Thanks again and also thanks to PPA for a great event!
  10. Unusual colour combo but pretty nice - I think you'd need to be really fast to ride something that flashy though
  11. Good info, thanks SwissVan and Zac! The gradually increasing cadence sounds cool, better than breaking my head over HR%'s
  12. Do any of you guys do pyramid intervals? I usually find a hill, ride up it, go back down and repeat a few times, not concentrating on time really but now want to start a timed pyramid type interval program. So let's say I need to do 1min @ 90%+, rest 1min, 2mins @ 90%+, rest 1min, 3mins @ 90%+. After the rest period, my HR would obviously have come down and I cant get it up (my HR lol) immediately on the turn of the next minute. Does one start timing your next work period only from when you've reached the required HR? So it will look like this then: work up to 90%, 1min @ 90%+, rest 1min, work up to 90%, 2mins @ 90%+, etc Or does one include that build up period in the 1, 2 or 3 minute work bit?
  13. Have to agree with the work/life/sleep statement. I hate driving to work because of the traffic situation so I used to force myself to commute by bicycle regardless of how tired I was feeling. This meant waking up earlier, getting home a bit later and generally losing out on sleep because of 'house work' back-up. I was feeling pretty weak at one point. Then I got a scooter to beat the traffic in the mornings so now I could sleep a bit later/more, commute on alternate days and I found an immense improvement; legs had more punch so I could do better quality intervals, etc. Sooo besides promoting scooters as an efficient way of beating traffic lol I suppose I'm also saying, quality sleep/rest is as important as quality training!
  14. They've got some at Complete Cyclist in Houtbay
  15. Maybe you have bigger feet than I do hehe I can climb somewhat but I don't fly up hills - strange thing is, I love climbing! Definitely gonna try and improve over winter yes!
  16. 1.91m, 81kg - I sometimes feel anger toward my mother for birthing this non-climber's physique of mine but then I go take some stuff off high shelves at shops and I feel better again about life
  17. Managed about 3:03 - a more livable miss than my 3:00:04 of 2008 Very well done and congrats to all you sub 3ers * hands clasped, head bowed, no eye contact * I shall now remove myself from your majestic presence and go train for next year hehe
  18. SA psytrance gets me through interval training much easier than listening to my own huffing and puffing only listen to music when I'm riding alone though. Ps: found that music often disguises any creaks n squeaks while I'm out and these then 'appear' all of a sudden on group rides which is a bit annoying.
  19. I like the sound of your planning lol perhaps its best to not think too much, jump in and make do with whatever arises - I doubt you can get into some serious life-threatening situations in Europe? All this talk about steel bikes has triggered a memory of my dad's old Raleigh which should still be at home in the garage - maybe I can do something with that. If I look really hard I could probably find his old sheepskin seat cover to really pimp it out PM me the cyclocross details please, definitely keen to have a look.
  20. Your trip to France sounds great - did you plan it yourself? Camping or fixed accomms? What sort of spares does one carry on a journey like that? I love the idea but tend to get caught up in the details hehe
  21. Thanks. Have you done a bit of touring yourself? Which bike?
  22. I'm looking to buy an entry level hybrid/touring bike. Will be adding panniers and loading with minimal camping gear for overnight trips so need something fairly sturdy. Found this http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-ZA/bikes/model/escape.2/8336/46793/ Any advice from hubbers who have gone this route?
  23. Got this notice from a friend via their neighbourhood watch: The attached picture is of a cycle recovered by SAPS during a recent raid. It has been established through information received that the cycle was stolen from the BKM area, yet no report of a stolen cycle matching this one has been received by SAPS. If you recognize the cycle in the picture as one stolen from you, please contact Kirstenhof SAPS 021 701 2426.
