  2. Ah cool, I liked it around that area. Accommodation and was cheaper than London, access to canal paths to cycle/run along, lots of female students who are fascinated by Souf African accents hehe - pretty decent area to live in general.
  3. Where abouts?? I used to live in a town called Ilkeston just outside Nottingham and the guys from a LBS used to do crits in the week and long rides over the weekend. Shop's easy to find - near the bottom of town, owner's name is Tony Argent - as luck would have it, I've remembered all those details but not the shop's name hehe
  4. Are you riding from the city centre itself?
  5. Such anger and frustration . . . . why not treat the root cause of it, erectile dysfunction can be cured! You need to lighten up mate, make sure your own house is in order and don't be so quick to point our other folks doing wrong - one day your anger might just be directed at someone more angry than you and you'll come off second best. Till then, good luck!
  6. No matter how many times one hears this sort of news it still hits hard! Best of luck to the family getting through this time. Stay safe guys!
  7. We were intimidated by your new steed How'd she go? . . . I think I know the answer to this question hehe
  8. Ah I wasn't aware of that unfortunately At least now I know where I'll be riding in the morning hehe Thanks duman!

  10. I was contemplating tomorrow morning's ride just now and thought about how pleasant it is riding up old Helshoogte between the trees. I also remember getting a cut tyre from some glass and one section being covered with leaves and thin branches. Does anyone know whether the road's been cleaned? And then I was thinking . . . If it hasn't been cleaned, why not see how many guys n girls also like that route and miss riding up there - we can have a group clean up! Organise that we be let in with our cars at the gate and we can even have a little braai + beer once the work's done. Any takers?
  11. It is unfortunate that your attitude will probably be carried over to your two year old and that they will also in future have this 'grudge toward cyclists' mentality. I don't think the fact that we're saying cyclists are allowed to ride on the right of the yellow line is being mentioned to suit cyclists but merely to show that those of us who do ride there, do so out of consideration. This should not be taken for granted and perhaps you should in turn, when some cyclists do stray into your path, practice some consideration yourself. How about being a shining example to Motorist Jr of how road users should act instead of ploughing your energy into taking pictures, registering on a forum to post them and making some ill-informed comments.
  12. Couldn't agree with you more http://tinyurl.com/WithYouOnThat
  13. Beautiful - What a majestic beast! I'm probably not the only one with tingling nipples here am I Have fun!
  14. Thanks Steve, Motorist needs to realise that the 'cycle lane' actually is not that at all and cyclists have every right to be in the road. Instead, you should brush up on your driving skills and not expect everything that's not a car to give way to you, your majesty. Cyclists keep left out of consideration. These guys were not doing so and yes, this was inconsiderate. However, if this was a big yellow and blue vehicle, I'm sure you would have just passed and not had anything to say about it. These guys could have been more considerate BUT a basic driving skill, regardless of the vehicle you're driving/riding, should be to access a situation, think about possible outcomes and then continue your journey - not jump on your high horse to point others' mistakes at every opportunity. Motorists need to shape up and realise that the road is there to be shared. @ St Martin, not everything's so black and white. Each situation and is unique, can't paint everything with the right and wrong brush. Would you rather be cripple having done the right thing and stopped at a red light or be able to say 'wow had I not jumped that light or stop sign, I would have surely been hit from behind by that motorist who ran it too!'
  15. Hi Jackoff

    Cycling to work

I wear cycling kit for my commute(22km) - maybe you can try and get away with a gentle cruise to avoid heavy sweats and just do a quick wipe of the necessary places when you get to work on your 5k days? Perhaps do a test run. I've recently purchased a rack to carry my bag. It's quite cool, takes 9kg, has bungee cord for securing your bag and attaches to your seatpost - best part is it only cost R140 at <a certain bicycle shop in canal walk>. Found that my backpack absorbed quite a bit of sweat and began smelling funny so the rack works quite nicely
  18. Hopefully you can force your body into submission over these two weeks with a few hard sessions so that it knows to give you that little extra to push over smits/chappies wherever you usually get stuck, that's my plan at least so I hope it works hehe As for the last week, reeelaxation with massages, quiet reflection on km's covered - both pleasant and painful, and mani/pedicures to shave off extra weight
  19. Shoulda gone to U2 then, more suited to ou toppies with bad backs
  20. Thanks Mr Luke!
  21. Ah yes, suppose I had to be a bit more specific. The distance is no problem, I need to up the intensity/speed at which I can cover that distance?
  22. So two training weeks to go really, what are you guys doing? Personally I try and do killarney + race over the weekend or killarney + intervals over the weekend with riding to work easy pace on Mondays and Fridays - enough you think?
  23. Same here! was so happy to have stayed on until the top of smits but then couldn't hang on after - no excuses but I do think my 50 'big' blade compact had something to do with that hehehe spun out n couldnt keep up. Was absolutely shot by the time we hit chappies - we'll get em next year hehe
  24. Jaaaassusss! Very well done sir!
  25. Thanks mate! Good luck to all of you doing the Argus too! @ Canaris, definitely rare steak with a chocolate and chilli sauce lol
