  1. Jens can! The sad part is that this is not even a surprise any more, more like 'oh there's another, who's next?' At least at this rate we'll end up being our own heroes soon lol well, those on here who don't dope
  2. Stop for a full English within an hour of starting your ride, then do another two hours - the worsies and bacon will determine he pace
  3. "always in single file (mostly alone)" - not sure if that counts Must agree with you re the corner cutting, it's like the drivers either don't care or don't know what happens once the front of the coach has passed a cyclist. On my way down into Hout Bay I've also experienced them cutting across the white line blindly when coming round corners and doing this at speeds where it doesn't look as though they'd be able to stop in time if need be. Yes, you're driving a big bus but as professionals that's something drivers should be aware of and take care to act accordingly, not use the bus/coach with an 'I'm bigger than you, get out the way' attitude.
  4. What's the approximate cost? I have a project bike and need to map out a budget to gradually get it fixed up (or single-speeded up if you will hehe)
  5. Limb doping!!
  6. Maybe the owner was just peeing somewhere - perhaps you'll find the owner by just looking for a 'bike stolen along M3' thread
  7. The wildebeest of the bicycle world
  8. Righto, will look out for the tall fella
  9. Cool, perhaps we could post our locations on here when we arrive and find each other in that way. Whether I go though, I am slightly embarrassed to say, depends on steak lol I set some out for this evening and I don't want to rush through them in order to make this event, decisions decisions
  10. Tonight in Cape Town http://www.bicyclecapetown.org/2012/07/cyclelinks-0-2/
  11. > Date: Thursday, 21 June 2012 > Venue: the Old Showroom, the Society for the Blind, 45 Salt River Road, Salt River, Cape Town > Time: 17h30 – 19h00 I've already got plans for this evening (going motorist hunting heehee) but I think it is important that cyclists pitch up at these and other NMT promotion events in large numbers, mass action in true SA style! Don't know if one already exists but perhaps we should have a thread with relevant NMT event news?
  12. Yes I saw it happen, couldn't believe it! Just caught the collision as it happened, the cyclist seemed to be coming from town heading toward the lower main road exit and the car, coming from the voortrekker road/Maitland side cut him off in the middle of the circle. The car slowed down, the two collided and then the mofo just kept on going! So I went after the car, the guy wouldn't stop and I had to overtake him and hit the brakes to get him to stop. Told him about the cyclist who was laying back at the circle and he responded with 'oh f*ck, did I knock him? I thought he just kicked my car.' Got him to follow me back to the circle but when we got there the cyclist was gone so I just carried on to work, not sure where the car guy went after that.
  13. Saw a guy get knocked off his bike at Salt River circle this morning. Went after the car and managed to get a pic of the number plate. I don't think it was too serious as the cyclist was gone when I got back to the circle but you never know. If you know of or were the cyclist who got knocked and want the details, pm me.
  14. Was also thinking Filezilla what is this FTP of which they speak?
  15. What sort of intensity are you guys doing or planning to do on these rides?
  16. @ KatyS and sluiper - I live in Obz too. Will be interested in to join you guys starting July/August. PM'd you my details.
  17. So alphabetised discrimination is ok is it? Explains why black people have it so tough hey hehehe I agree with the idea that giving passengers a total weight allowance (body weight + baggage) is fair but what about the practical implications? Each person on every flight would need to be weighed before boarding! Self-concious fat guys would hold up the queues cos they're waiting to be helped by the guy at counter 3 instead of the hot chick at the next available counter who will frown at the 'excess baggage'! We'd have to spend so much extra time at airports. The emergence of baggage mules will bring destruction to communities of midgets the world over! I think for now we will just have to bite the bullet and pay until a standard solution which works efficiently is found?
  18. A bit inappropriately handled then as ham is not Halaal
  19. Taking his bike for a walk
  20. Also, check where you can make little changes in your everyday life e.g. go from three sugars in your coffee or whatever to one or none, cut out that packet of chips you buy from the snack guy coming round to the office, reduce your portions etc etc - all these little things help over time and imho that's what you need to reach and maintain your goal weight as you're likely to stick to these over the long term as opposed to making drastic changes, sticking to them for a bit and then reverting to old bad habits.
  21. Consume less calories than you expend and yes, watch those fizzy sugar-laden drinks ... I can't bring myself to advise anyone to drink less beer so ... what mayhem said
  22. hehehe glad to see some smiles on dials already
  23. In the midst of so many threads dedicated to highlighting bad drivers, inconsiderate cyclists etc. I thought it may be a good idea to start one which highlights the positive experiences we come across daily in the hope that it will inspire others to act in the same way So a small thing to start off with, coming down main road near Wynberg yesterday, there was a 'stereotypical inconsiderate anti-cyclist baddy' behind me in an X5 who stayed behind me at low speed for nearly a minute before passing safely and hooted pleasantly when I thanked him - there were no stickers or racks indicating that the person was a cyclist hehe, I thought any of those would have explained this behaviour but realised this it may just have been a considerate, friendly driver! This is but one case of good behaviour among many I have come across and I'm sure the rest of you have experienced similar situations, seen guys riding in single file, stopping at red lights, indicating their intention to turn and so on. So let's list these here as some alternative reading to the negative threads we so often see, hopefully people will aim to get mentioned in here instead
  24. I think any Giant dealer should be able to order it for you. I got mine from a place which didn't stock them generally. Finding one to view is probably gonna be the main mission - unless we extend our commutes in the morning and meet somewhere between Northcliff and Cape Town?
