  1. We don't give this guy credit enough for the detailed and informative responses he gives. Even if it's to the same question time and time again. Cheers!
  2. I feel like Friday is my birthday I'm so excited. I'll probably go to sleep in my bib on Thursday night...
  3. Where did you get the vibracore?
  4. Sorry for the hijack. Anybody know where one can buy a 30/35mm rise carbon bar?
  5. Hi Naas, Can you do a deal on these pretty please? https://www.evobikes.co.za/apparel/cycling-shorts/leatt-dbx-1-0-shorts-slate.html
  6. This. Sounds like it should be turned into a starter kit meme. All good points because I went through the same lifecycle haha.
  7. And wrt to the aspects you mentioned. I could also ask you what sort of riding do your mates do and what do you want to be able to do on your bike? Do long, fast rides and do races? Or ride proper rowdy trails? If it's your first bike and you're not sure, perhaps a bike that fits in between those two segments. Many of the modern bikes do both really well actually... You might be able to pick something good up at the moment with a few sales that's happening. But ya start with budget always. And don't forget gear. That can easily cost you a few thousands (helmet, clothes, gloves, spares, etc.)
  8. What's your budget?
  9. They also have a 21% sale off all there items afk. Maybe a great time haha.
  10. I no longer own a Rook.
  11. I've only ridden the original Rooks so can't comment on the newer renditions but I must say, in my opinion, it's a step in the right direction. Price is right and it's 'local'.
  12. I'm in CT I'm afraid, would like to know what you would have done? One option I read is to solder some disk brake mounts on the frame? Thanks for the offer.
  13. Great well let's chat after lockdown, thanks. Will ask around for the calipers for sure.
  14. This is the rear end. I'm not sure if that hole in the crossbar is to accommodate for calipers perhaps...
  15. Removed all the parts off this old Silverback 26er that I found in my garage from my younger days. Already been sanding down the paint. Then I thought, could I restore this bike into something simple in time? A gravel bike maybe? Has anyone here done it? Looked at some things online and got some ideas, just not sure if the parts are readily available here in SA... Some questions? 1. Has anyone converted a 26er MTB to a gravel toy, doesn't have to be anything beautiful but I'm just wanting to keep busy in the garage. I'll keep the paint stripped and go for the raw look. 2. Brakes. The bike still have V-brakes so need to probably make a plan to try and apply caliper brakes if possible. 3. Can I get rims and tyres that will fit the 26er frame? I think most of the parts I have, the main parts I'll probably need are: - Fork - Brakes - Rims and Tyres - drop bars - brakes/gear levers Any input which can contribute would gladly be heard. Cheers!
  16. Yes I'll do that. Thanks again Chris. Looks like the alignment is spot on when I did some inspection, however I could be wrong. Might try and tinker about today. If I don't get it perfect I'll just take it in. Would be lekker to get it sorted with all this time at home though..
  17. So it looks like the adjuster had to be turn anti clockwise quite a significant amount. I was pretty happy with how the bike was shifting on the bike stand, then took it for a ride and in the first few mins it felt fine but sometime after that it was acting up. When I say acting up I mean it was skipping gears or trying to go up 2 gears instead of one and then returning to the the correct gear. It's at a good place now, however not perfect. Seems there's a definitive hard "clank" noise when going up a gear, although it's not skipping. Might try and fine tune it a bit more. Thanks for the shifter adjustment advice guys, it must have been from new bike cable stretch.
  18. Hopefully it's that easy, worth a try, so just loosen the cable to the left one notch at a time correct?
  19. https://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/shimano-pdm-530-pedals - R400? https://www.cyclelab.com/product/shimano-pdm8020-mountain-bike-pedals - R700? Already one purchase down, make me a lekker deal and I'll be a happy customer again!
  20. Okay I'll troubleshoot those options this evening, appreciate it. Yup it's disappointing...
  21. Hi Robert, The bike has only done 130km, bike is new. So wear would not be the issue, it must be setting.
