  1. Serious? That long? Agents, b@stards
  2. Didn't have much time yesterday afternoon - but rode down the first 50 metres of Late Harvest... Good thing it has chicken runs available on some of those jumps - I quickly realised why it's considered to be a DH trail ... Will spend some more time doing a recce asap - looks promising... Am considering getting my mate to hit it with his Anthem X... Him being a former DH'ler - he's still convinced he can do/ride anything, even on a XC full-susser - should be fun to watch ....
  3. Anyone yet had a CRC order payment reversed? How long does it normally take? With them being out of stock - they had to refund my purchase... Reimbursement was apparently processed on 1 October - nothing in my CC as of yet...? Any ideas?
  4. Big thumbs up to this... Can only imagine that cruising the promenade on a SS must be pretty sweet...
  5. Happy to report that said bullet was dodged... did some proper cranking up hills yesterday afternoon, and not a squeek of slippage... joy, joy and joy again! Thanks peeps!
  6. I/we(?) know (gathered as much) - and fanks!
  7. Mampara - if you're referring to what was said earlier by myself, and the replies thereto(??) - then thanks for posting the CSA excerpt... Having looked at it, I reason your bold bits above, to be of application ONLY in the event that one falls within categories 1 & 2 under "Steps"... The use of the word "OR" at 3.) ["Or - You can take a day license for every day you race], presumably means that one has the option to simply take out a R35.00 day licence per race, should one not want to be 1.) a CSA member, or 2.) upgrade, as a member, to a full race-licence... The bit about being part of a club, wolud then surely only apply to CSA members (step 1/2) - so would presumbably not apply to Day Licence "carriers" - does my take on this make sense? OR you can ignore all of this, and simply read the post above! - thanks Edman B)

  9. Thanks for the replies guys - I'm starting to get a clearer idea! In short - for someone who only rides the occassional funride, once in a blue moon - a Day License appears to be the way to go then - rather than going through the hassle of arranging annual membership with CSA/my local club? So I would simply contact the Race Organiser - inform them I want a "Day Licence", and pay the R35 extra on top of whatever their fee was/is (assuming, of course, that it doesn't include the Day Licence fee already)...
  10. Wait a moment - the "guide to the CSA Licensing System 2010"/pretty colourful organogram that someone here provided a link to, has a "Day Licence" as something seperate to the "Cyclo Sport licence" [which I though, from reading earlier, was replaced by a CSA license??]... It's only valid for 24 hrs, is acquired by applying via the Race organisers, and is the "most basic option"... Muddy, muddy, muddy. If I only want to ride in funrides - will the Day Licence, and ONLY the day licence suffice - or must I still pay the R75.00 annual fee?
  11. Holy moses... 4 pages later and this is still as clear as mud! And to think that some people actually pay me to think - and many more pay those people because they think I know what's potting with life, the universe and everything - and here I am battling to understand the "simple" rules of race registration... Two things: 1.) Am I correct in that there is not pro-rata rate? So you either pay-up at the beginning of the year - or face paying FULL price for 3 months membership [like for instance, from today ], so that you're allowed to enter the occasional funride during October, November and December? 2.) Can you simply pay the CSA R75.00 fee WITHOUT being part of a MTB club? If I do everything on my own - but are quite willing to pay organisers whatever their fee is for organising a race, and want to simply show up on the day and ride - why do I also have to be part of some club? 2b.) Over and above the annual R75 for CSA - do I also pay an extra R35.00 for a day licence, over and above whatever fee is levied by the Organisers of a race? If anyone can answer the above - that would be most of much joyfulness. B)
  12. Oh well done! Only, on closer inspection - that photo is photoshopped... quite badly too! B)
  13. Awesome...
  14. Hear hear!
  15. Blame Shimano!
  16. Thanks JB - I'll take you up on that offer - I'll naturally cover postage too! I'll open it up over the weekend, and take a pic - if I recall correctly, the 3 balls were different sizes as well (or at least one of them was)... I'm speaking from memory now - just want to be sure which one is missing. I'll PM you in next week.
  17. True - although, a loose lockring is hopefully something that won't happen to me again!
  18. Nope - I remember reading that they had some issues. Cane Creek Zonos SS.
  19. Thanks JB - I'm hoping that you're right about the cassette! I think it should be ok, for the simple reason that for the weeks/rides after having replaced the chain, I had no issues - only for everything to go pear yesterday afternoon. This would appear to support the idea that the lockring being loose was behind the problems. Obviously, if slippage occurs now - I'll take the plunge... Re human error - might have been the very LBS who gave me the free lockring replacement this morning? They serviced my wheels a few months back - and presumably would have removed the cluster to do the hub? Regardless - bygones now.
  20. CB - the LBS techie said it happens occasionally, that the lockring works its way loose... I've had the cassette on for about 2 years now, without any problems so far - so I guess it's possible? Just hope this doesn't mean there's a problem with the freehub...
  21. Let us know if it happens to make an appearance!
  22. Oh my shattered nerves. Yesterday, CRC kindly agreed to resend the package. Today, I'm informed that they are out of stock. 26 October for rear brakes - early November for the front... Refund it is then... Joy.
  23. Yello all, So after getting a bit cocky on the "What will snap first" poll/thread See here- and having mentioned to the wife a while back that "I'm hardly spending money on my bike these days" - I've been brought back down to earth. With a bump. Replaced my chain about 3 weeks ago. Was naturally nervous I needed to change the whole cassette as well - and maybe the blades. Was very happy when all went well. Until yesterday. Uphill - and especially in the smaller cogs at the back - serious slippage started happening on several of the rings, all at once? Which kinda surprised me - going from smooth riding to cluster-@#$% in the matter of a day... Rode on - and on the way back, burning the downhills, even noticed slippage on the smallest at the back, whilst on big blade in front - whilst descending?? Lots of noise too - but was hard to judge with the usual wind blasts etc. on the way down... So I resign myself to the fact that I need to replace the cassette. And then the following happened: I take the rear wheel off this morning - to take it in to the LBS. As I remove it - I hear the sound of metal hitting tiles - look down, and notice the Lockring on the floor, together with the two smallest cogs... Third on the list, appears to be loose as well? Dressed for work already - so don't want to get too greasy/dirty - so leave it be, and simply put them back on, and take it in. LBS replaces my Lockring - tells me to try it out tonight and see if slippage occurs again... Questions: 1.) How common is it for a lockring to work its way loose? 2.) If the lockring loosens - do the cogs normally simply slide off? 3.) Could this be the sole reason for slippage - and a simple case of tightening the lockring? 4.) Chances I'm going to have to replace the cassette - should I not do this in any event? 5.) Might there be a problem with my freehub unit - and if so - does this entail a new hub/wheelset, or can this be repaired individually? I'm really ignorant when it comes to wheelset issues - so I'm not even sure I've asked the right questions here - but any suggestions will be appreciated!
  24. I'm with you Mampara... I had a long look at the manual when I got mine - and for the briefest moment in time, I actually knew the answer to this... I THINK(???) it had something to do with the speed of - aw stuff it - I can't remember... Here's the thing though: I did that Fork maintenance workshop with JB about 2 years back - which was about a month after I had just bought the fork. In the process of me doing what you did - without realising it - I lost that teeny little ball bearing... I've never got round to finding a bb shop to get a replacement - with the effect that my dail now turns slightly, every time I lock-out or release again... It's probably been at the extremes of its turn at various times over the last few years, both ways... And you know what - never noticed it making the slightest difference...
  25. Thanks freaky-yellow-smiling-head man - is the Paarden Island shop close to that Northgate Island shopping centre (the one with the Cycle Lab store in it)??
