  1. Wouldn't any sort of "tracker" device need line-of-sight 'access' to satellites, for the GPS purposes? Or is this a case of ?? Just wondering? Might play a role in where the unit could be inserted on/in the bike?
  2. Think you can delete your vote? Damn anti-dirtists!!
  3. So do I! Keep on forgetting to, but also plan on popping in a little super-glue tube... You just never know when you might need to glue together some poor soul's full carbon dream machine, in the middle of nowhere... [Exits. Closes door behind him]
  4. Looking good! Happy riding.
  5. Remember that thread well... Was also before the days of Popcorn on the Hub. Could've done with some!
  6. I just want to know what he had against big Slovenians? Bloody bigot.
  7. I'd only be remotely interested in this, if video evidence could be displayed involving a test rider who was female, and naked (so as to discount any wind resistance issues pertaining to cycling attire).
  8. Hello All, The Garmin forums aren't the most user-friendly when it comes to finding relevant topics - so thought I'd give it a quick bash here... Have the 305 - I've been lucky, in that it does what it's supposed to, so see no need to upgrade. [This inserted to forestall all those who will simply suggest I buy the 705/500/800! ] I have the dreaded "X" flashing through the Cadence icon on the display unit. But am still having my cadence measured - not the speed however - this is being done via satellite. The magnet is no longer being picked up. Red light flashes when the crank-arm sensor swings by, zip when the magnet passes. Opened up the Sensor unit by unscrewing the little screw that holds the "speed-arm" in place, and noted that the black and brown little wires are still there, and appear to be attached to whatever is in the tip of the speed-arm. Removed the unit, and rubbed the magnet up against it - after 'resetting' it - still no green light, only red when the crank sensor passes. Noticed quite afew scratches on the tip of the speed-arm - which suggests that the magnet (which, imo, doesn't fasten to the spokes very effectively), must have moved at some point, and took some nasty swipes at the tip of the arm... Anyone have a similar problem - is it safe to assume that the tip of the speed-arm has been irrepairably damaged, and that I've lost "speed" reading? Fanks!
  9. Hey Owen - thanks - will PM Kiwi. I tried that number - no answer! PM sent!
  10. Hello All, Quick one - I've been chatting to Wayne via email, over at Planet X bikes - in an effort to arrange an order of something out of stock. Tried to send a follow-up email now, which was bounced back with the message that the "info@" inbox was full! Tried phoning the mobile number under Contact Us on the site - with no answer. Anyone know who to PM to tell them about the above - I assume they might not realise that messages/emails are being bounced! Fanks!
  11. So should'nt we all just apply a few layers of Duct tape to all of our bars - coz if it can hold together a plane [google: duct tape airplane alaska], then maybe it might buy you a few seconds of time, in order to take a moment and fully appreciate the epic amount of pain that is shortly to befall you...
  12. Uhm... so this is a good thing? Stupid being me, of course!
  13. Welcome to the Hub - where thick skin maketh the Hubber May you have many happy miles!
  14. [Hi-jack on] Hey Marlon - how was your first ST/Mtb trail experience? I presume you survived? Still smiling? Or a bit sore? [Hi-jack off]
  15. New Science magazine had an article/question some time back, about the speed at which flies can fly... One of the answers came from a roadie, who claimed that at about 8km/h(??), he would always "lose" the flies, presumably because they couldn't fly fast enough to keep up with him... This had me thinking all sorts of silly things on my way up to the Cement Path on Paarl Rock the other day... i.e: 1.) Do African flies fly faster?; 2.) What about the effects of my slipstream - for something as small as a fly, does me moving through the air result in mini-slipstream currents that make it easier for them to tag along?; 3.) How is it possible that, on the top of a mountain, with not a soul in sight, and presumably, no unnatural sources to attract flies, I could have +/- 30 of the buggers, buzzing around my head?; 4.) How do flies communicate - since it's not as if all 30 showed up at once - started with a few, and then others just seemed to appear out of nowehere??; and lastly 5.) I really should stop riding alone - so as to a.) share the load i.r.o flies, and b.) stop having such pointless conversations in my head! In spite of all the aforesaid waffling - I think the lesson to be taken from this, is that flies come with the territory and the season - and somewhere along the line, if you ride fast enough, you will drop them! Moral of the story - if you don't like flies: HTFU!
  16. Thanks DB - so a case of not doing anything until you notice a problem? Cool - all still running smoothly...
  17. Where did you buy it? Do they sell one that would fit on the bars, since it appears that the one you used was a head-lamp? Btw - thanks for letting us know... Price has always kept me from going the dark way - if this works, then I've suddenly got options!
  18. Hey all, Cleaning the bike this evening - started thinking about maintenance etc. - and then had a thought about my crankset/BB... I'm running a 2007 XT Hollowtech crankset, and have never had it serviced? What's the story - annually/depends on km's or hours/when the blades are replaced? Any thoughts?
  19. Mine be a juicy egg and guava pie.
  20. Are you riding to the trails - or are you querying needing visibility on the trails themselves?
  21. Dig the bar tape! Sweet ride - happy miles!
  22. Not a happy chappy! Blows I actually took the time and effort to register for the Forums page, just to pop up a comment in one of the threads complaining... See they have in excess of 2000 in the one thread already, and there are several... Hope they get the message!
  23. Not being a direct reply to the above set of wheels - but did a bit of research in regards to MTB wheels a while back... Appears that the company did take a bit of a dip several years ago (which would presumably tie in with what Marius is saying), but that other than this - and more recently, they've apparently upped the game, returned to previous levels and are accordingly receiving good reviews again... Hope this helps - my 2 cents.
  24. Just a note that it doesn't appear as if you can "edit" your Comments, after having posted them in the Event Comment section... Keep that in mind before you pop up your rant after the race, when instead of a 25km advertised route, it was actually 35km, through sand, cow-pats and the occasional disused mineshaft...
  25. Brilliant... And the option to "share" should spread the word quickly. Well done ADMIN! One question - presumably this is open to Hubbers who might want to arrange an informal, social get-together kind of ride as well? Or are you attempting to aim it specifically at actual, organised (timed etc.) events?
