  1. Whoops.... Here's hoping Momsen sort this out quickly! Here's hoping further that you simply drew the unlucky straw with regards to one particular seatpost - that was badly machined... I am still going to look at Momsen for all the other componentry, but since I'm no lightweight - I would only ever look at Thomson posts in any event... I would always try and support the local boys - so let's hope this doesn't do anything serious to their budding reputation, and that they are rapid in their response! Keep us posted!
  2. Oh boy - can't wait to hit this again. Did it more than a year ago - can't believe I haven't been back yet - but will be making a plan soon! Anyone got the total distance of the White Route?
  3. Thanks man - included at 34 tooth blade as an option now - realised that this has been mentioned as an option a few times, so would be interesting to see how many/if any other Hubbers also run it... Will definitely keep this one in mind, as me losing momentum climbing hills is pure poetry in (slow)motion....
  4. Oh no, nothing as drastic as that... I'm simply trying to keep my fully geared bike in a 32-17 ratio for as long as possible on my rides now... I will often change without even realising it - force of habit - but when I become aware of it, I change back to the 32-17... Trying to work out in advance what gearing ratio would suit my environs for when I make the swop next year - and wanted some clarity on the need to swop cogs etc... Agteros - very useful comparison that, applying Sheldon to the 94.7 - appears to make a much bigger difference than I thought possible - thanks!
  5. By the way - counted the teeth on my 27 speed cassette today, in an effort to identify what gearing I should be in - for the purposes of practicing for when I make the switch... Figured I would start off on 32-18, since I'm no mountain-goat. 4th cog up at the back, has 17 teeth. 5th cog up at the back, has 20. 3rd cog up = 15 teeth. So forgive me for asking me this, but those suggesting a 32-16/18 - what cassette is that from? Or rather, are these "SS" specific cogs? Alternatively, I'm thinking the difference of 1 "tooth" between a 17, instead of 16, or 15, instead of 16 - is probably not that significant? Any comments?
  6. Hello all... Realise that some of the above probably touches on points/questions raised in other threads - but figured it might be a good idea to group some of these together... Besides - the SS forums was looking a bit thin, so thought I'd throw this out there... PS - please make any suggestions regarding the poll, and assuming I can, I'll gladly edit!
  7. Moots YBB 29er and the Salsa Dos Niner are both 29" softails - there may be even more. But you'd have to import these, which probably places them outside of this discussion. Just thought I'd mention them to distinguish between the full-susser's and softails as options.
  8. Check out this link: Moots 29" YBB The 1" comes in from the flex in the Ti chainstay/seatstay - controlled by the elastometer situated behind the saddle... Keep it clean/protected - and you theoretically have no maintenance, on a 29" ride that soaks up some of the nasty stuff... Some variants have a small air-shock instead - but the principal remains the same...
  9. I tell you, the cheek of him! [the tube, not Stewie911's bum] It's just so hard to find good tubes these days. PS - how dem beaches?
  10. I'm also very interested in this topic, Chris... Next bike will be a 29" - but so prefer the maintenance-free fuss(ness) of a hardtail... So if at all possible, would also like to go for the 29"HT option... Kind of makes sense in that you run bigger tyres at lower pressure - but other than this, surely can't be in the same realm as a 29" full-susser?? Guess we would have to speak to someone who has done both - and I recall seeing a 29" HT on sale here, think it was a Niner(?), since then the Hubber upgraded to a full-susser? One last thing - Moots and a few others, are now making a 29" softails - google a Moots YBB to to put you on the trail...
  11. Sorry. "...how in the name of all that is holy a fuschia-feathered-boa..." There. Fixed.
  12. Eish. Let's leave this one where it is, please!
  13. This whole exercise is pretty pointless if you ask me. Haven't you heard how all tubes look the same? Without a pic of the 'actual' tube, how in the name of all that is holy do you expect us to be able to find it? Honestly. Oh - and while I'm at it - I notice in your link to your "Thursday cruise", that your top speed is listed at 167.28km/h? It probably would've helped things if you'd taken the time to mention that part of your ride obviously includes a rather sudden 'trip' down a mineshaft. Had our fellow Hubbers known that they should've been searching underground as well, it would clearly have sped things up! Honestly!
  14. Well done dude. Amazing how it came out, particularly the contrast between black and gold. My sole criticism, purely my opinion, would be to either change the stem - or spray it black. Figure it would suit the cockpit better! But that's just me - reckon you could offer your services to fellow hubbers!
  15. Speaking under correction, but I think the Spez's might be a bit higher in price? As for you wanting to go "new" - nothing wrong with that - but be sure you're doing it for the right reasons: there are some stupendous deals on 'as new' bikes out there, that will ultimately bring you waaaayyyy more bang for your buck!
  16. Thought I'd put this out here, for a bit of banter... Off Bikeradar: Faster: Steel or Carbon?
  17. Please do tell them JA-Q001... I, and it appears, quite a few others, have lost items using Royal Mail. CRC always replace without asking questions - but if it gets too much, who knows what they will do - hopefully not pull an Amazon!
  18. XTR M975 shifters... Here be one very sad Hubber at Shimano's decision to drop the RapidRise range...
  19. Hey Dubber, Nope - sorry - don't have a vehicle GPS. Took my Edge 305 along, but the thick forest cover was screwing it around. Pop in to the bike store in Kynsna near the Waterfront - they'll give you all the direction info you'll need. Pretty sure the same will apply if you're coming from the Plet side of things...
  20. That's apparently changed, or is about to?? Where did I hear/read about this.... [getting old]
  21. I'd love to have this answered as well... I was an occasional, weekend kind of mtb'er in the times before suspension forks... Also had a mtb at school - an old Puegeot(?) would you believe, that also came rigid... Obviously - at the time, we all managed. But surely only because we didn't know any better? Going from suspension to a rigid, must be a completely different kettle of fish? One must be prone to want to do the same - only the results would be dramatically different? All those rigid souls out there - please share the love, and let us in on the transformation!
  22. S@B - that frame came out real nice... What's at the bottom of your seatpost - is that tape or a shim?

Ah - thanks - makes sense now Well - on the assumption that you're slightly mental, it would make sense.
  24. By "who else", do you mean - apart from Tyerone, here on the Hub?
