  1. Hope you didn't fall of your bicycle Read somewhere (sorry for not having a reference) that LCHF lowers alcohol tolerance. Haven't tested the theory beyond odd Castle Lite or glass of red wine yet.
  2. Had the same happen to me a month ago just as I woke up. Blinding pain...Hurt like f@#!. Find stairs or a curb and stretch it out over the next few days. Pretty much instant relief. edit: Was a first-time for me. Also hadn't done any exercise that week. Drove down to Durban from Jhb 32 hours before it happened. First night in Durban: No cramps. Seconds night woke up with the cramp. Next morning in Jhb was fine. Thinking it was dehydration.
  3. Fine folk of the hub! Make this Group Buy happen. I finally found a great deal on tools @ CRC. Last I checked, tools don't attract heavy duties except for 15.6% effective VAT. Add your items (duty-free items only) and shoot me a PM. I have both a FNB and a Capitec bank account, but most EFTs should show quickly enough regardless. Get your goods before the clearance sale ends! http://www.chainreac...x?ModelID=55963 X-Tools Bike Tool Kit - 37 Piece @ R800 Price changed
  4. Pump it up with the valve in 12 o'clock position. Hopefully whatever is lodged in the valve will be moved into the tube. Shake wheel around with valve @ 12 o'clock position. Slowly release air from tyre so that the gunk you hopefully dislodged remains in bottom part of the tyre. Other options are get a plastic bottle and fill it up with boiling hot water. Position valve into the hot water by having it in 12 o'clock position. Try inflating then hopefully it will successfully deflate. If still not working, get a syringe and some flexible tubing and squirt hot water through the valve. Hope you come right!
  5. Does the same valve which no longer let more air out of the tire still allow you to pump air back into the tyre? Try wiggling the valve around, press it in/out multiple times, maybe there is something lodged in there? Otherwise use a needle and deflate the tube forcefully... Good luck!
  6. I remember the old thread mentioning that HRmax increased, but never read anything about HRresting. No use fretting. Might be oncoming sickness as well. Will keep an eye on it and hope it drops back to normal levels (60s).
  7. Does eating extremely low-carb result in an elevated resting heart rate? Been hovering in high 80s past two days, easy to get into 120s just getting off my ass and walking about. Had a quick session on trainer this morning: HR didn't go over 180.
  8. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2013/05/30/mcdonalds-ceo-loses-weight/2373269/ Junkfood companies' PR machine perpetuating the idea that sedentary lifestyles, NOT sugar-filled & high-carb meals, are the cause of the obesity epidemic.
  9. Bwahahaha! A stoke a day keeps strokes at bay!
  10. @ BigH & Hayden E I didn't know about beef with yellow fat. Never seen beef or any other fat as anything but white. http://www.bulletproofexec.com/the-health-benefits-of-grass-fed-meat-part-2/ According to those guys, the yellow in the fat is from carotenoids and vitamins, and enhances flavour YUM! @ BigH and Chro Mo Thanks for the info! Will check out Braeside Meat Market in Parkhurst as that is 5km vs 401km for Bulberg Slaghuis. @BigH Is Bulberg Slaghuis a big operation? Business seems shaky according to info on http://www.southafrica-companies.com/bulberg-slagtery-6foi/ (almost deregistered last year) but If I ever again make it to Bloemfontein during trading hours I'll visit them! I really want people making good food to prosper, but it seems the bad guys are winning due to customer price sensitivity (and ignorance) and ever more k@k is making it onto shop counters
  11. Pity! In case anyone was wondering about the extenders and fillers Morewoodman mentioned, here is an intersting article: http://www.fao.org/docrep/010/ai407e/AI407E16.htm These volume-cheating additives are classed into two categories Extenders: Vegetable-source proteins (soy) Fillers: Vegetable-source carbs (pretty much any meal you can think of, including corn (mielie) meal) Ok! Mystery solved!
  12. Where in Gauteng can one get grass-fed beef? Because, if those guys have grass-fed beef, they probably also have grass-fed milk, cream, butter and cheeses.
  13. Fark steaks! Some of the info is shocking. Ignorance was bliss And this probably filters down the milk produced by the cows, the cream, butter and cheeses made from the milk. Looks like I need to explore organic produce. Coincidentally been to a dietitian recently and he recommended the Bryanston Organic Market to me, so will have to explore it some more. The guys over at the LCHF forum also had some good info on grass-fed butter (Kerrygold) being healthier than the grain?fed variety. I remember seeing pictures in history books of dairy farmers in old communist East Germany feeding the cattle with rolls from the local bakery due to the screwed up subsidy system. Would have been interesting to know how those cattle's milk/meat compared to grain-fed or grass-fed. Whether its was Clenbutorol or Mielie Pap Filler, it smelled k@k and ruined my soup. I returned the packet to a PnP yesterday (minus the piece that landed into my soup), but I doubt I'll hear from them about what was wrong with the meat.
  14. But the heat mustn't reach a stage where the rubber forms nice pearls like on a Formula 1 track after the straights...or some of the pictures of bad batches of Tacx/Conti Hometrainer tyres. There's not much to go on except that I trust Conti and I trust big wheels for grip, so I'm biting the bullet and going with 2 x Conti Hometrainers
  15. But how do they get that right with solid chunks of meat? Sausages I can understand, but not sure about meat.
  16. Btw, you guys on The Hub rock! I googled my question (without the mielie pap) for almost an hour and only got stories about how grass-fed meat was healthier than grain-fed.
  17. @TutleMan Not sure if serious No almond smell. Interesting question! Gf rated it smelled like mielie pap as well, so hopefully not two strokes on same day. But I remember once having a heat stroke and my friends giving me Coke to rejuvenate me and it tasted like Fanta Grape, but I don't think this mielie pap smell was all "in my head".
  18. Tried a MTB on one of CycleLab's CycleOps Jet Fluids...was stupid loud, but the knobblies were still 100%, so I (wrongly) assumed a DIY slick would do the job.
  19. Easy, peasy decision? Done! Two Hometrainers in 26"x1.75 I'm sure having a 1.75 wide tyre also helps with traction on the IDT compared to normal slicks. And the extra width helps disperse heat better across the tyre's surface area.
  20. So no (serious) ideas on the mielie pap smell? It's very different from rotten meat, so I'm not worried about poisoning anyone.
  21. Bought stewing beef from PnP the other day and experienced something odd. Soon after the steak was searing a stink that reminded me of mielie pap overpowered me. Is this if the cattle are reared on mielie pap? Do some shops inject mielie pap into solid cuts of meat? It's not the first time I've smelled a slight whiff of mielie pap from meat, but this time was the worst by far and I ended up giving it away as it was too strong for me to handle.
  22. Finally ordered IDTs for myself and my girlfriend! I've set aside Conti Leader Tyres that ground themselves into slicks with minimal effort for use on the IDT. But now I see Conti have a Hometrainer in a MTB-friendly 26"x1.75. Has anyone tried the Hometrainer in 26"? Is it better (quieter and less likely to slip) than a slick or worn-out MTB tyre? I get that it's cheaper to recycle used tyres, but all this "cold-running rubber compound" and "designed for IDT" science makes it seem as though the Conti Hometrainers might be superior.
