  1. Dangit! Johnson Cycles only had 2.1 tubes with slime for presta rims, something about a delivery not coming through this week, so no luck. Didn't want to go to them (old beef) but had to get over my pride so I can go ride tomorrow.
  2. Unfortunate! Want to buy DH tubes with Presta Valves. Any advice where to start in East Rand?
  3. Did this shop ever open??
  4. There was talk of a Cycle Shop opening in Greenstone. Anyone know if it's up and running yet?
  5. Hey guys My rear wheel's Shimano MT15 + Vanilla MKII 2.4 ghetto conversion was a failure so took it off the rim today :'( . Front wheel is same setup, but it keeps the pressure for more than a week. I want to go for a nice ride tomorrow morning and want advice on where in the East Rand to go for DH tubes with a Presta Valve.
  6. What's a duracell? Edit: Did you chuck a battery at her? I hope it wasn't a measly AAA...
  7. Sounds intense! Military-style behind-enemy-lines scouting is not for me. Modderfontein is only 14 km if I take Brickfield Rd. Suicidal. Isando Rd is only an extra 2 km. Great! Think I'm sorted! Turns out Modderfontein Trails are way closer than I thought. R40 a pop, but worth it for the security.
  8. Great-looking trails! But it's 30 km to get there, and I'm looking for trails I can cycle to and back. Have you tried Gillooly's? Is it really so rough that there's a valid concern about breaking a bike on the trail?
  9. Is it that bad?
  10. Is Gillooly's still an option for MTBing? I got used to riding at Spruit, but have moved again. Back to the East Rand Looking for nearby trails. Want to ride!!!
  11. Thrupps on Rudd Rd also stock superb full fat Yoghurt! Can't remember if it was Olymbos Sakoulas Greek Yoghurt (R27/500gr) or Weleda Farm Organic Natural Yoghurt (R32/500gr). Crazy prices, but the best yoghurt I've had to date.
  12. Kefir info: http://www.culturesforhealth.com/milk-kefir-grains-troubleshooting-faq-advice
  13. https://www.wholetraditions.com/articles/3-water-kefir-instructions Supposed alcohol content from negligible to milk stout (0.08%-2%)! No idea how to make sure the alcohol is ethanol (yes please!) and not methanol (blindness =! ayoba). Looks like one can have fun experimenting with many flavours (litchi, ginger). Trying to gather ideas for when I finally get some kefir "grains". Anyone try coffee? b-unit, that would be a rockstar thing to do! I'll let you know if I don't find any. Happy experimenting everyone!
  14. Where can one buy kefir? Friend has IBS and I'm thinking kefir's worth a shot.
  15. Sounds reasonable to think that a heavier frame with more meat and welding will be stronger, but it doesn't seem wise to risk a frame failure as it'll probably fail catastrophically when you land at speed. Was playing around with the idea of upgrading my Merida 500 FS with more travel, but was put off by statements about changes in travel stressing the frame at angles it was not designed for and decided on waiting until next year and get a full DH setup instead. DH machine also means that I can get fatter tyres (2.4 Conti's are almost tight fit on current frame). /Hijack off
  16. How do you guys decide whether the frame can handle the new geometry when changing the front shock to one with more travel? I love hacking things together, but not sure about bicycles.
  17. @Helpmytrap: Sounds great! Homemade is often tastier and lots of fun. but I'm the only one on LCHF in my household, and my diet is causing enough friction as it is. It'll be flat-out war if I start rendering fat The article I linked to stated that one needs about 750gr butter for 500gr ghee, so I'll just add 50% more butter to my dishes and tell myself it's ghee
  18. Amazing how many McGuyvers are taking to the kitchen! Googled and found a guide with pictures: http://healthyvegetarianfoods.co.za/wp/archives/1145 Fat rendering is too "Fight Club" for me, so if I were to try it, I would get it from a Checkers Hyper. They sell Ghee in caterer-sized round containers. More expensive than butter, but not by much.
  19. Interesting on the subsidised BG meters! Followed the link and got a certificate. Looks like the subsidy is for USA only, but worth a shot.
  20. Good value, just make sure an experienced mech builds your bike. The A10 is slightly lighter because it has higher-spec front shock (A10 - Reba; A20 - Recon) and some SRAM components vs A20 with Shimano gear. The Avid Elixir 1s on my brother's A20 get the job done (A10 has Elixir 3. Don't know whether they're better). If you're considering Axis, then I'm assuming you're after value and not bling: Put the savings of going A20 instead of A10 into a tubeless conversion and race entires and enjoy your ride.
  21. I have taken Synape Forte for migraines in the past (very effective for pain), but I think it was taken off the shelves (confirmed http://www.timeslive.co.za/local/2011/11/16/painkiller-now-an-illegal-drug ). Never noted a change in clarity as I was trying my best to switch off and catch some Zzz. Watched Limitless last night. Eagerly waiting for Synap Forte to relaunch as NZT-48 Things I changed when my concentration was waning were sleep (had way too many nights up past midnight, now aiming for 10pm) and my diet. Experiment with cutting down sugar consumption (Coke, fruit juice, ice cream, low fat anything, eg. yoghurt, cheaper chocolate) and junk carbs, ie opt for colourful vegetables instead of easy starches such as bread, potato or pasta. Better sleep and change in diet also made me enjoy cycling more (I experienced improved energy levels and it helped with fatigue post exercise). Didn't try meds. Good luck!
  22. Went to Evergreens by the Tshwane Food Market the other day. Limited range, 500gr biggest size, prices sucked. Paid R85 for 500gr almonds, R22 per packet for 100gr walnuts. And the worst was that the almonds were brown where they were damaged (old) and tasted rancid. The walnuts were rancid and flavourless. Tasted like soap with dirt.
  23. Where to got for fresh and affordable nuts in Gauteng (macadamia, almond, walnut)? Almond flour? Macadamia butter? There was talk of sourcing them directly from Tzaneen. I don't mind waiting for when I buy big bags, but also looking for something to keep me over.
  24. Helpmytrap, you echo my experience. Went to the Cradle with my bro on Saturday. Felt good on the medium pace stretches, but the uphills had me hitting my HRmax a lot and bonking really quickly. HR would jump from 160 to 194 and then back down again real quick only to shoot up again next climb. Only 2h40m, felt strong after the ride, but I was a goner for the rest of the weekend. Need to read through The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance by Vollek and Phinney and see what's the low down.
