  1. 's all good, The Drongo. Sheesh, how long until my face makes it into a "Super suspect!?!!" thread cos some shady wanker made a copy of my ID or passport? nox1111, what kind of fraudster would give you valid identification details? Seriously, you can't just slander poor Mr Albert Benner. He is in all probability oblivious to a photo of his passport being used to commit fraud... LMFAO
  2. Surely you meant "v.i."
  3. Thanks for the input, everyone! I decided to go witha Shimano RS30 wheelset. Heavy, sure, but if I get strong enough, the aero-benefits might even things out at higher speeds. Tankman, I had a look at the wheelset in white. Smoking hot. The white would make for a beautiful contrast on my black frame, but the wheelset costs almost twice as much in white (R3.5k vs R1.9k), so I'm going to go for the black wheelset. Happy riding everyone, and be safe!
  4. Thanks for the input MaxUmis! I bought my bicycle second hand off the hub and am very happy with it, but I'm not comfortable with buying a wheelset second-hand. The Mavic Ksyrium Elites sure look sexy @ R1900, though. Had a chuckle about Tool's 8(!) threads. I've had too much trouble from unreliable wheels. Just wanted the most solid new wheelset on a tight budget and stumbled over the Shimano RS10/20/30 deals on CWCycles. When I looked at the wheels' descriptions there was very little literature besides weight differences to differentiate them, hence my post here.
  5. Hi fellow Hubbers! CWCycle.co.za has some good deals on Shimano wheelsets(RS10/20/30). I've tried finding out what the difference is between these wheelsets durability-wise, as they have similar weights, and except for the RS30 having an aerodynamic design I don't know what makes the RS20/30 worth more than the RS10. What I'm looking for is a no-fuss, durable wheelset on a budget. I'd actually pay more for a heavier wheelset, as long as it means getting a stronger wheelset. I've googled, but with little success. I currently weigh 76kg, will weigh +-70kg after winter training. http://www.cambriabike.com/Images/product/shimano_rs-10_wheelset.jpg
  6. Thank you for all the responses. I will phone those mentioned to compare their prices, but will probably go with Shane as she's the nearest of the lot - I stay on Prospect Street by LC de Villiers .
  7. Hey guys & girls I've been experiencing severe lower back pain on my longer rides (3h+) and was hoping someone on the hub could recommend a good physio to me who can help me to fix my back. I'm hoping for a good year of cycling and I don't want to risk spoiling it with a cranky lower back.
  8. Thanks for the tip, Tarmac. I tried them last year and, unfortunately, they don't sell the crankset and couldn't give me any help on finding someone that did I would appreciate any help on this, as I want my trusty steed back as soon as possible.
  9. bump The groups heading out East to Boschkop really need to catch a wake-up call before there is a tragic accident and lots of finger-pointing between motorists and cyclists. Maybe someone could point out to all the head honchos/race snakes of the clubs heading out in large groups that it is not acceptable to use public roads with complete disregard for other road users and that any fatalities arising from such reckless 4-a-breast bunch riding will be on their consciences? Most Velo riders are friendly and agreeable guys(&gals) and I expect that they will mend their ways if someone(a bit older than me) educated them. On the 30 odd rides I've tagged along on weekends, the groups were rarely more than 3-a-breast. Unfortunately, there will always be tjops who do as they please. As much as I wouldn't mind the odd tjop being taken out of the gene pool I am compelled to look after my fellow cyclists in the hope that they'll return the favour and point out anything I can change so I can enjoy cycling for as long as possible. Anywho, this 4(3)-a-breast riding nonsense needs to stop. Disclaimer: I'm a Velo member. Velo FTW
  10. Hot damn!
  11. Anything that goes on about best quality at best/competitive price and involves Western Union is a fake. No guinea pigs need be burned for this scam.
  12. Why are you selling? How do I collect? Can I mix and match. 2 left kidneys/ 2 right kidneys? How much does she weigh? Am I correct in understanding that A+ is higher spec than B+? You say you don't drink? Aren't you meant to service your kidneys with water a few times a day? And shobi, did you honestly believe you'd find someone on the hub who'd want one of your kidneys??! Ok, ok, I know it's probably just a bot, but just wow, there have been really strangle mumblings on the hub lately Maybe shobi could donate his spine to one of the guys that was having one hell of a time kicking Frail when he was down? You interested, shobi?
  13. Hi there I need some advice on which MTB shoes & pedals to get for my road bike. I've had a look at the Shimano PD-M520L on amazon.com and they looked like awesome bang for the buck @ $34 (http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-PD-M520L-Sport-Pedals-Cleats/dp/B000WYAENC). I'm also prepared to pay more for a better system that requires less TLC (one of the reviewers mentioned that it wasn't hassle-free). I know us South Africans don't have price parity with the international community, but even if our local retailers smack on their greedy margins, those M520 pedals look like one hell of a deal. Is the M520 the one to go for or should I go for a better set of pedals? Lastly, I'd appreciate some thoughts on what is a good solid pair of reasonably-priced MTB shoes(preferably hard, carbon-soled so that there won't be any 'hot-spots' on longer rides). I love my club rides (between 60-120km on weekends) and intend on entering a few races as soon as exams are over, but as I'm still a student I want to keep costs down by sharing one decent pair of shoes and one decent pair of pedals and cleats between my road bike and my MTB.
  14. Please post a link to your Cerevelo post. Might be time to burn some plastic.
  15. The equivalent of Bulgarian Airbags for bicycles? http://www.theregist...garian_airbags/ http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bulgarian+airbags
  16. Will check out the Profile Designs. Thanks Sharkie. Kiwi, those check damn fine, but I'll have to run the price over with my bro. You wouldn't still have shifters?
  17. Well...props for busting a cap(sicum) in that fule drivers ass and starting a gang war between the brandewyn & bakkie guys and the rest of us peaceful cyclists The way some of the farmers drive in KZN means you probably go through a can a week I'm tempted to get a can for myself. Unfortunately a lot of our motorists in Pta seem to be suffering from Alzheimer's or something and have forgotten all the rules of the road You get any decent discounts on your bulk purchases, Crack? And would you be willing to help out a fellow hubber in case you do? Last I saw, a can of mace went for about 13 piecost at my Builder's Warehouse, which is just under a full week's worth of studyfuel for me That is such a sad way for a ride to end, though. I wonder what was going through the kid's head? "Those handlebars look like liquorice. Let's grab a piece!"? "The pack hasn't noticed that it's left behind one of its youngins. Quickly, pounce on it and grab that energy goo they hide in the back of their shirts!"? Kid tried that stunt on me I'd give him his sucker...a sucker punch more like
  18. You're joking. Right?
  19. Hi My brother wants to borrow my road bike to train for the Iron Man, but my bike doesn't have any TT bars. Would be much obliged if someone could make a recommendation for me. I already went to my LBS (Cycle Mania) and supposedly the Easton rep is coming in tomorrow, so they can give me prices on what I'm afraid is a very expensive brand tomorrow. The owner was very helpful, but I wonder if he'll be helpful when it comes to setting 'agreeable' prices. Then again, it's not as though I can plead poverty and expect the Porsche dealership to lower the price on the 911 Turbo to just over cost... Would CRC be a better idea?
  20. Just brings my blood to a boil to see some cyclists act with complete disregard for the environment and fellow road users...besides making the rest of us cyclists look like idiots Ah well, now I'll have to start training during the week again so I'll have enough breath left during my wkend rides to point out to some cyclists the error of their littering ways. /thead hijack off
  21. Being used to seeing cyclists chuck their energy bar wrappers next to the road on their training rides(Boschkop/R25), hearing this doesn't surprise me in the least. Haven't picked a fight with any of the litter bugs yet, but my patience is running thin...so the next dirty bastard better hope the 0.03g of ballast he tossed overboard will help him cycle faster than me
  22. Well spotted, bikemonster LMAO So that wasn't just night night blindness? Looks like I've gone completely blind since then... or just can't read to pass 4th grade? Where do I collect my disabled sticker so I can defend myself when some do-gooder Hubbers take it upon themselves to tell me that blindness/"ppl that can't read good" isn't a qualifying handicap for drivers when I take the closest parking to the shopping centre entrance
  23. So who's coming tonight? Only been there twice. Never imagined they'd let cyclists onto the race track when a friend told me to join him. Really cool experience Except I think I may be night blind. On the last lap for the day, I took the last corner that leads to the straight where one enters the track wide and went 15m off the road onto the sand Wonder what was running through the head of the guy I overtook on that last uphill
  24. Just came from the Solomon's in Pta North. Was quite a drive, plus I got lost cos the street sign for Emily Hobhouse Ave was missing , so I walked in thinking it was finally the day that there'd only be space for cycling clothes in my cupboard...So I was really pissed when everything was sized for underpants gnomes(XS) or Rob Reiners (3XL *more butter* versions). Here is what I hauled back though - normal price in brackets Helmet - Limar F909 @ R500 (R1099) Tubes - 8 x Kenda 700x28/35C @ R15ea(R?x) - 4 x CST 700 x 19/23C @ R30ea(R39.95) Tubby Bag - Exspider SEAT BAG w. Can probably fit three tubes into the tubby bag, will check it out later. Plus it has LED lights stitched on Zaskar, looks like you've checked it out now as well. I hope practising my typing skills with all those prices will help someone else then Mampara, I completely missed that Pedros Road Rage Oil for R20 Were you at the Woodmead branch?
  25. I was going to study after my training ride tomorrow morning...looks like I can scratch that. Google maps here I come Zaskar, I'll let you know whether this is for real when I'm back - hopefully with a boot full of new cycling kit.
