  1. Definitely not! If anyone other than Burry was expecting to fill our one spot in Beijing, they were delusional!
  2. He didn't really have any decent competition in Knysna. If he hadn't won, we should be surprised.
  3. When I interviewed David in January, he said his two main goals for 2008 were The Cape Epic and the Olympic Games. I think he may head offroad more in 2009. I think he and Evans will both be top-10 finishers at the 2009 marathon world champs. Evans blew big time at this year's marathon world's - was in the top 10 for most of the race and ended up 14th. 4. Now that you mention it' date=' I broke 2 tyre levers this morning getting a Kenda Karma off. Had to use Mammie's fancy dessert spoons to get the job done! Fortunately she does not cycle and will never read this. [/quote'] You guys must have weak hands. You should only need one lever to get a tyre off a rim. Well, that's all I need. Had a good chuckle at the dessert spoons quip, Big Guy. Haven't heard of that since primary school!
  5. Yep! Luck doesn't discriminate. The more days that go by without a medal for Team SA, the more the pressure piles on Sifiso, who really is a solid medal contender. Well, as solid as BMX racing allows. Like Burry, he's just improved and improved over the past nine months. Let's hope that continues!

Assume you're talking about Kevin Evans? He's a marathon racer, not an XC racer. Well, not at international level anyway. He finished 14th at the marathon world champs last month. Olympic cycling qualification is done on nation UCI rankings. The higher the country is ranked, the more riders it qualifies. I think the max for MTB is only two though.
  8. Yes, I know the cross-country skiers are super fit, but the rowers are allround fit ? cardio, strength, flexbility, speed and endurance incorporating legs, abs, chest, arms, back, shoulders and co-ordination.

  11. I spotted Elvis at Pick 'n Pay last Friday. The experience left me all shook up... Sean Badenhorst2008-08-12 06:30:45
  12. So it's not only the suits, but also body positioning improvements in the water... I did a lot of swimming when I was a triathlete and my wife is a former member of the English national swimming team, so swimming is not a foreign topic to me. But I still can't get to grips with that fact that after finishing one second behind SA in the 4x100 free relay in Athens, USA finished four seconds ahead of our guys in Beijing. SA improved by just under one second over their Athens time, while the US improved by five seconds! All our guys swam low 48sec times in the final, all the Yanks swam 47sec times except Lezak, their last swimmer who made up a body length on Amaury, the world 100 free record holder, to become the first man ever to break 47sec (he swam a 46.06!), which isn't considered a world record because it was in a relay (only the first swimmer in a relay can be awarded a world record due to the start gun environment similar to solo races). The fact that another four countries also broke the world record in that event indicates that SA, winners by more than a body length in Athens, are now way behind. (Can't find what brand suits were worn by France, Australia, Italy and Sweden). Is it swimsuit technology only? Be interesting to see the times had they all been wearing Speedo briefs... 13. Four scenarios: 1. Swimmers must be much smarter than cyclists. There have only been a handful of positive tests in swimming in the past few years. 2. Swimming isn't testing its swimmers rigorously. 3. Swimming is testing its swimmers rigorously, but keeping the results quiet... 4. The suits really are that effective. 14. The Pirate, I wrote some previews on the cycling road races last week and found both were scheduled for SS7. Found that info on the Super Sport website. The men's road race start time was a bit out, but the channel was correct.
  15. What next, couches on bikes? Assume these policemen don't have to ride aggressively/fast too often. For me, the 'nose' of the saddle is crucial for bike handling, road and MTB! Wonder if they use padded bib-shorts. Doesn't say so in the article.
  16. Just don't go into Harrods wearing shorts. I got kicked out of there because I wasn't properly dressed. I told the security guy that he shouldn't go by looks and that I was about to spend thousands of pounds at his store, but he didn't buy it. So I just bought my toothpaste down the road at Boots instead...
  17. Haven't seen the SADF/SANDF colours for a while. I got awarded SADF colours for cycling back when Defence was the strongest cycling 'province'. Still got the tie somewhere. Mampara, I did my basics at SSB.
  18. Better wake up earlier before rides. Gonna take a while to find that kit ...
  19. I don't think anyone will pay more than R50 at the new Fourways Bike Park. I wouldn't. I reckon they should start it at R30 per adult and R15 for kids with some contract options and review it after six months. R30 for for Giba Gorge is well worth it!
  20. idrive, there won't be 5000 in Sandton that time of year, they'll mostly be in Ballito and Camps Bay and Knysna and Plett and Mozambique on holiday...
