  1. Ah the Cattleman Ride. I remember it with fondness. Used to ride down the M13, then onto the N3 at Mayville to make it from Pinetown. Yeah, yeah, I know the N3 is the national freeway, but I was young and bulletproof back then and it was only for a couple of kays. At least I wore a helmet... Cattleman was a decent steakhouse/social hotspot for ages. I remember that with fondness too! Sean Badenhorst2008-09-04 09:17:16
  2. Don't stress, I'll bring some in a spare water bottle...
  3. Brilliant! Well done. Will be there when I'm a bit fitter!
  4. Wow! A bike with a real headset.
  5. I had those same sidi shoes once. Me too! Funny, they looked brand new when I got them...
  6. Agree with HR. My 10-year-old son (who is small for his age) has a Giant MTX 250, 24-inch. Rather pay a bit more for a bike like (I think about R2500) this than have to constantly repair a cheap hyperstore bike.
  7. As a former KwaZulu-Natalian, here's my advice: 1. Create a deadline 2. Post a deadline reminder the day before 3. Wait until a day after the deadline and create a post saying deadline has passed 4. Check again a week later and you should have a couple of KZN responses 5. Check again another week after that and you should have a few more from KZN 6. Expect queries from KZN once the team has been formed and racing for three months as to why they never knew about the opportunity
  8. Just contact Ride Mag and ask them to email it to you.
  9. Don't teams get invited? ProTour teams get preference then Pro Continental teams. As far as I know the Vuelta was never part of Barloworld's race schedule this year.
  10. I know this area! Isn't there a zebra crossing a little further down the road?
  11. Was this taken before or after the chicken had crossed?
  12. Awesome. Nothing pleases me more than seeing kids have fun on bicycles.
  13. I tried to get something like this going when I was editor of Ride Mag circa 2001. I figured the fuel companies were best as taxi drivers visit the fuel stations regularly. Plan was to have a pamphlet/card with six different basic images of cyclists and a brief description how they should be respected in each situation. Each time the taxi driver filled up at one of the sponsoring fuel company's stations, he would get some sort of stamp on each of the six images on his pamphlet. Once he had all six stamped he could qualify for a R100 discount on his next tank of fuel. Needless to say, the none of the fuel companies I approached found it attractive. Maybe things have changed...
  14. Well then if it makes you feel better, jhag6969, go and report the accident at your local police station. If the law does something about it, then please let us know so we too can have hope. I'm genuinely glad you weren't injured or killed and I wish you many, many more years of safe, enjoyable cycling.
  15. You know what jhag6969, we actually do care. We're just realistic. When I was new to cycling like you, I also used to take on taxi drivers that almost killed me. I used to ride up next to them and squirt water in their faces while swearing at them. Or I'd kick their doors with my cleats, or whack their side mirrors to give them a fright. But you know, it never changed the way taxi drivers drove. It just got me all worked up and bitter and it made them even more resentful of cyclists no doubt. Now I ride defensively, expecting taxi drivers to do stupid things and am grateful every time I get home from a ride unhurt. Unfortunately, nothing you do will change the way taxi drivers are. Take some deep breaths, appreciate your health, climb back on your bike tomorrow and ride the same route more defensively. You have no control over them, but you have control over you.
  16. Calm down.
  17. Word of mouth?
  18. Could just be a guy somewhere in there giving out free donuts... Sean Badenhorst2008-09-02 00:15:31
  19. Trying to keep the trouble causers behind bars.
  20. And most of us would rather be rock stars... Glad your new world is better than your old one, Hog. Don't lose your musical touch though. It's a special talent that many long for.
  21. Sorry we missed it. Everyone in my house has been ill and there has be no exercise, little sleep and lots of visits to the GP and the pharmacy. (COUGH! SNIFF.) All seem on the mend now though... Let us know when the next one is happening.
