  1. Right here: http://www.treadmag.co.za/DisplayCustomLink.aspx?eid=9159&name=Ladies%20Tea%20and%20Trail
  2. You can buy it at one of the bike shops listed here: http://www.treadmag.co.za/DisplayLink.aspx?eid=9159&group=Stockists&name=N/A Or you can subscribe here: http://www.treadmag.co.za/DisplayCustomLink.aspx?eid=9159&name=Subs Issue 2 will go on sale next week and should also be available in CNA and Exclusive Books (probably from the following week). When should we check our postboxes? I'd say most subscribers should have their mags by Friday next week, assuming the postal service is on song...

  4. Yep, and those ladies that are compelled to look after the kids on the weekends while their husbands do four-hour rides...
  5. Pity about the food poisoning Van Zyl and Jennings (1st and 2nd on GC after Stage 1) suffered before Stage 2. Super ride by Bester. He also raced MTB for SA this year at the World Cup in Pmb... More detail here: Bester flies SA flag for junior team in Europe Toyota Supercycling Academy's Shaun-Nick Bester, racing for thenational team, became the first South African junior male to finish on an overall podium at a top-graded international road cycling tour when he claimed second place at the Vuelta al Besaya in Spain at the weekend. http://www.supersport.com/cycling/article.aspx?headline=Bester%20flies%20SA%20flag%20for%20junior%20team%20in%20Europe%20&id=305198
  6. I used to do this a lot when I was young, knew everything and feared nothing. We used to ride from Pinetown to Stanger. At the on-ramp at Stanger, we'd wait for a truck and see how far back we could slip it for. Also did 99kph down Fields Hill behind a truck once... My mate Crispin Brien once rode from Ladysmith to Westville behind trucks like this. It's not something I'd recommend, but I can confirm that it looks more dangerous than it feels.
  7. Yeah, got the bad news from Alec Lenferna (local organiser) today. Apparently Nissan hasn't extended its sponsorship so in order to keep costs down, the UCI have eliminated SA and Australia. USA round is only included because the riders are going to Canada for the World Champs... Supposed to be a WORLD Cup, not a European series. I'm livid!
  8. Damn! That's a fine result! Well done guys. Well done Barry. Your plan is paying off! All the best for the rest of the tour.
  9. Yep, it did. I called Kevin on Friday evening and he was partially flattered, but completely keen. I spoke to the little guy's dad on Sunday evening and he said it all worked out well, they chatted to/met Kevin after the race.
  10. They are... Look in the Crash and Learn section on the site. And tell everyone you know to send in their crash pics too. There's also a classic sequence of a guy crashing on that one jump on The Spruit just before you reach Conrad Drive from the south...
  11. We'd love to do these longer term tests. We've got some gear penned in for long terms testing, but no bikes. It's difficult to get a local wholesaler to part with a brand new bike, especially an expensive one, for a few months. A few of the wholesalers can see the value, but most need some convincing still. I'm optimistic we'll get to that stage, hopefully sooner rather than later.
  12. Slowbee, I believe that's what the other local mags offer. We're trying to fill gaps in the MTB market...
  13. Thanks for the compliment leet22. The importers are the ones that can inform you where to the buy the product since they supply the retailers. I don't know which retailer is down the road from you, do I? Trails is a big priority for us. We have some big plans in this category as we want more people riding trails and not just doing races for a safe, marked rides. If you can get me good quality maps for MTB trails, I'll find a way to include them in the mag.
  14. Surely the content should be what sells the magazine' date=' not the gift inside the bag. Do you honestly need/want branded, bullet-shaped valve caps? Most people I know remove valve caps of any kind at the first opportunity they get... [/quote'] I think free gifts work, I cant speak for the cycling industry, but, one of my customers approached a trade engineering magazine and asked if they could include a keyring with their name and business details on it as a free gift, there was an additional cost but he also got a bit of a free article on his company in the mag, which was nice. Anyway, told me he recieved a lot of leads from his free gift and still gets calls now a few months later - so he was very happy with the excercise. ........and this is a very focused trade magazine, its not freely available so I dont think the distribution is very high. Customers do like freebies, theres no doubt about it. Porky, you're right, gifts do work. Look how McDonalds forced all its rivals into offering toys with kiddies meals. But in publishing, it's generally a sales gimmick to try and make one publication more attractive than its rivals (women's lifestyle mags are experts in this field). We'd rather offer our subscribers added value for their investment since we don't really have a direct competitor on the newsstand.

  16. Thanks for the advice. While I am there I will check if they have a cricket box in my size. Classic comeback! Assuming you're a male of course...
