  1. I rode there alone a few times over the Xmas break. Never felt in any danger and I looked for all the lesser-ridden more technical trails which are a bit off the beaten track. I flippen love that place! Well done to Wendel and Co. for all their efforts.
  2. doogie, is the pain/injury in both or just one? Did you change anything as per my list in the last post?
  3. doogie, both sides or just one? If both, have you recently changed pedals or shoes, or cleat position or saddle position or perhaps increased your mileage dramatically over what you're used to?
  4. Personally, I'd prefer to race alone. Not much of a team person. Saw this poll on supercycling.co.za recently: uestion: For new mountain bike stage races, which of the following would you prefer? - view results Results:Two-rider teams ? I like the company and added safety47%Single entry ? I like to compete alone, just me to worry about53% Total votes: 783
  5. Yes, there were quite a few. Don't know all their Hub names though.
  6. I decided not enough is known about The Idol by today's cycling community. So I did some research and put together this tribute to a true cycling legend: http://www.sport24.co.za/Content/OtherSport/262/3a14cc8e588846ba84128f02caf40b15/21-12-2009-08-55/Tragic_loss_to_SA_cycling
  7. Mum's sense of rhythm, dad's sense of humour! Thanks for all your support! Sean, Jo and Kalon.
  8. Thanks to everyone for your support! Sean, Jo and Kalon.
  9. Thanks for the support, all. Kalon is into the semifinals (top 21) which will be shown live on SABC 2 at 19h30 next week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The final will also be live on Thursday. In case you missed his performance, someone has put it on youtube here: There's also a Facebook supporter group here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=152613904903&ref=nf Now it goes from a talent competition to a popularity competition... All support much appreciated!
  10. Men 1 Arran Brown - Medscheme 2 Malcolm Lange - Medscheme No other info yet.
  11. Thanks all. We appreciate the support. He's talented but also works hard at something he loves. If anyone is interested, he's got a website here: http://www.kalonbadenhorst.com/
  12. Amazing! Absolutely amazing! Well done Burry.
  13. Confidence is stylish. Style is not a look, it's an attitude. Use that baby on the road and stop worrying about what anyone else will think...
  14. So young. So sad. My condolences to Leon's family.
  15. You don't just take morphine. That's a highly categorised drug. As far as I know it has to be administered intravenously. So they should also question the team doctor and management about this. Finally, some light being shed on doping in other sports. Cycling is at least trying to do something about it... Wonder when proper testing will take place in rugby. No way those guys get like that from eating Pronutro...
  16. Train with it, race without it. Training is a science, racing is an art...
  17. Yeah, I spotted the in the topic header and knew you'd posted it for our amusement... Thanks. I was amused.
  18. Would be more impressive if he'd won it on a six-inch travel dual susser. Botswana, lovely country that it is, is hardly a great cycling nation...
  19. Welcome! You'll encounter lots more nice people; and, if you're not running tubeless, lots more punctures than what you did as a roadie. I don't ride with a hydration pack either, but I draw the line at newspaper and booties. You don't have to ride early when you're a mountain biker - no traffic issues...
  20. Holy cow! When did you become a mountain biker?
  21. They're for emergency use really. Get a floor pump for home. Get a good one and it will last you a very long time.
  22. Speedy, why you using a road bike not on the road? 3 punctures in 10 minutes? Damn! I was on the tar. I just had some really bad luck. First I hit a fairly big chunk of something. Replaced the tube and went on my merry way. A few minutes later the tube popped and had to replace it again....repaeted the last step again. I think all the patches took their toll and it was a warning to get new tubes. At least I scored out of that episode. After the last puncture and running out of tubes I phoned th wife anf told to fetch me at the Steers. For her effort I bought her supper Sounds like you damaged your tyre which is why you had the subsequent 'pops'. Probably a hole in the sidewall through which the replacement tubes would have 'popped' one you'd been riding a bit. R10 note or empty energy gel sachet work well as a temporary gaitor over a hole in the sidewall.
  23. If it's Hans Rey, it's not Photoshopped. Super-skilled and will try anything... A very early cover of Ride Mag circa 1998 showed Rey perched on the edge of Table Mountain. Google him, and be impressed...
  24. Thanks for sharing your positive experience. Hope you have many, many more. Always great when you achieve that place in your cycling where your body and mind and soul are content...
