  1. Why don't you get off your bum and go ask SANP why they don't and come back here and tell us all the result of your research. If they tell you they will and do support trail building for mountain bikers this will be an amazing development and you will have assisted the trail building at Tokai and indeed around the whole park. In the meantime, continue enjoying the trails you refuse to support and paid for by hundreds of other stupid people who fail to get your impeccable logic.
  2. "Good reasons" Lol. Ya you really should not look a gift horse in the mouth - there's a lot of truth in that old saying, apparently lost on you.
  3. Okay, just to be clear who the troll is, you posted about another trail but for some reason started your usual rant about Tokai. I know exactly what you're talking about - you want big rocks and gnar and somehow Tokai falls short of your needs. Go ride elsewhere then but your negativity is tiresome, especially from someone who doesn't support because its seemingly against his principles but will still make use of the facilities . Just remember, someone else paid for those tracks you sometimes deign to ride :-)
  4. I think your problem is comprehension. You don't support the trail building at Tokai either publicly (quite the opposite in fact) or financially but you see fit to dis the trails at every turn. You and your non-supporting buddies will be the first to call for or make use of the assistance on offer if you can't make it down the mountain after a crash. A service other people pay for. Got it yet?
  5. We choose to focus on the very vocal majority help support the trails and let us know how much they love the work we do. If you ride one of these dumbed down trails and manage to damage yourself severely enough to need help, feel free to call us for a lift down :-)
  6. Thankfully you are in the very vocal minority - BTW have you joined TokaiMTB? Do you help fund the trail work, security presence and injured rider recovery we do...?
  7. Fast rolling generally means narrower, less tread and less grip. You can't have everything in one tyre unfortunately. I have found that the best compromise for my kind of riding which is trail/enduro is the Maxxis Aggressor. Has good side knobs, big volume in 2.5 and reasonable weight plus hard rubber center center knobs for good durability and rolling speed. It is underrated as a front tyre but in our dry conditions I find it fairly good. I even raced a DH event on them. That said, if you're getting bounced off line I wonder if you're not exceeding your suspension travel or damping?
  8. I rode these a few years back but ja, it was vrek warm but still pretty good fun. Some of the newer Banhoek trails do look like a bit of fun on the downs though?
  9. I get the "replace after any impact " argument but I think a more nuanced approach is needed. I have a helmet with a bad dent just in front of my ear - it saved me from a nasty injury on Cobra at Tokai. The rest of the helmet, a Bluegrass enduro lid, which is totally overbuilt, is 100%. I keep it and use it sparingly if my helmet of choice is written off and I'm waiting for a replacement. It is far and away a better choice than a cheap roadie inspired spare helmet and as a back up I'm happy to take the risk...
  10. Actually no, I love my Pike wif Charger and my Yari with motion control - the latter has been totally reliable and always gets great reviews. Sure the damper could be a little better - I get a bit of dive under braking, but for the most part I can't fault it. I have just tossed the Guides off my Enduro and replaced them with 785 XT's. Next is a new Shimano 203 rotor up front and the old 200 rotor at the back. So happy to be off those awful DOT fluid brakes.
  11. If you want to bomb Tokai reliably then something higher volume a bit tougher than a pure XC tyre, especially out back is a good idea. That said I get away with EXO casing Aggressors on my enduro bike most of the time but I'm pretty sure they are tougher than those Vittoria's. Manufacturers are known to spec weak tyres to make the bike feel lighter at the shop. My advice would be an Aggressor Exo casing 2.3 up front and at least an Exo casing - eg Ardent or Ardent race out back. Also check your tyre pressure especially out back. Tokai requires higher pressures than say the Greenbelt or Tygerberg.
  12. Tokai burned in March 2015 and JH a few weeks or days after that. In fact we almost had a repeat at Tokai on Tuesday this week. There was a massive response from the local fire fighting teams and almost no wind or it could have been inferno 2 for Tokai. There is tons of cut alien veg everywhere.
  13. I think looking for a Cape Epic might be harder...
  14. Great stuff Spesh. Here's hoping for a speedy reopening of JH. The actual best MTB trail destination in SA ( Not Karkloof :-) )
  15. Use the available travel and feel comfy for my pathetic right hand which is prone to going numb...
  16. Wow its quiet around here... Anyone else found that RS forks overstate the air pressure to rider weight? I'm in at least the 85kg range but I find the recommended pressure way to high. I'm currently around 55psi in my Yari with no tokens!
  17. Such a pity - JH was starting to look so good - fynbos and fresh plantation pines. I haven't ridden there since the DH Nationals in Feb 2020 and will have to wait for a long while more to do so again I suspect...
  18. Thanks for the hose DnD - XT's are up and running. Next upgrade is new Shimano rotors and some genuine Shimano pads.
  19. There are some bits of single track in the mix but they are short and over very quickly at speed. Pats is on another level of course.
  20. Thx, right now all I need is a 1.7 m plus length of brake line with a Shimano banjo fitting on one end.
  21. It depends on your definition. I call anything with loose baby heads, loose corners and ruts "rough" and there are plenty of segments like that around.
  22. Thanks, yes I have a replacement caliper already and have a front brake up and running. What seems to be a harder job is finding a long piece of hose with a banjo attachment on the end... Not even Shimano seem to have stock.
  23. Ha ha - there are a few short steep sections in Cecila, Lower Kirstenbosch and the Green Belts where you can top 50, while being very careful of people and dogs of course.
  24. https://www.mtbr.com/threads/xt-m8000-broken-pistons.1056556/ I got some hardly used looking XT785s (?) from a friend of mine. He had replaced them a while ago but gave no details on what was wrong with them. After a long a tedious bleed process on the front brake, I eventually got normal feeling lever pressure and some brake force up front. Unwisely perhaps I took them for a test on my enduro bike. This involved some 50kph plus rough descents. I survived but noticed the brake power seemed about half of my much older SLX brakes on my other bike and less than the Guide R I had just taken off. I bought some new pads and tried to fit them to find one of the pistons seemed to be jammed out. I decided to strip the caliper and found pretty much what the guy in the MTBR thread above found. The pistons had shattered from the inside and made a crunchy sound when pressed on and the one leaked a bit. My older SLX brakes are by no means perfect but have not developed this kind of terminal issue, yet. The XT brakes in question had seen duty on a marathon bike and may have done some Epics. Still, I can't imagine why a ceramic piston would shatter from the inside.
  25. This post confirms what I suspected. If you get an eBike don't get one that is pretending to be a normal bike, rather go whole hog - 160mm travel, Fox38/Zeb and a 700w battery.
