  1. UCI/WBD has a very good streaming service for R110 pm. Great if you hate ads and want instant access to replays.
  2. Leogang DHI time again. I am tempted to "Yawn" as this track is getting a bit stale for me but it will still be an interesting race. Spesh's young gun outshone the other two by miles last week and they will be looking to improve. Quite a bit of talk about how fast and risky the Loudenvielle track was. It claimed a few people and left some out of contention with broken bones. If it rains it will be a lottery at Leogang so lets hope it stays dry. Predictions?
  3. Lots of gravel climbs but the tech stuff looks like fun. XCC is on this evening followed by XCO on Sunday. Is AH racing? I suppose MVDP is still licking his wounds and also scared of being humiliated by an XCO track and the harsh armchair pundits on cycling forums all over again 🙂
  4. You can adjust the Shimano shift speed to mimic slow AXS shifting, just to remind yourself why the big S is better 🙂
  5. The spec of these entry level bikes is disappointing. I'm sure the shock and fork on the Stumpy for instance will last a while but things like hubs brakes and rims are usually even worse quality. Spesh no name rims are soft as he'll and the hubs I had chewed bearings. I'm on totally different wheels and brakes now. Basically my bike arrived with some components that simply weren't up to the purpose of the bike. Why not spec Deore brakes and heavy but strong rims?
  6. Anticipation is the name of the game in MTB. Change down - lower gear- before the incline if possible. The issue you will have with the 3x10 is the risk of chain drops when you go to the middle ring in an emergency down change or grinding gears when you try and change down at the back. Your best bet would be to rid yourself of the 3x10 and geat a Deore or MicroShift 10 speed 1x set up. Bomb proof and with enough range in the 11-46/8 cassette.
  7. Like a slippery seat. Lay off the Mr Min maybe?
  8. Is anyone subscribed and watching the racing? The coverage has been pretty good on the new streaming platform, bar some very poor coverage of the women's event yesterday. Enduro is alive and well too with live timing available and nice summary style recaps on Youtube. I think we are finally seeing a positive change in the DH after the end of the RB era. The racing is as hot as ever and despite the negativity around the changes, the new format is working very well. No more protected riders and a Q2 session adds pressure to perform.
  9. Good point - since most eBikes are pretty much trail/enduro bikes, many people are just going straight to E without trying the gateway drug...
  10. The design is prone to leaks. The seals wear out and if there is external stanchion damage this causes air to escape every time you raise/lower the seat. They can be serviced with a kit available from Spesh. They may also be able to supply a fresh stanchion. Better bet is to buy a new dropper like a Lyne. Their last version - 34.9 diameter, which I also own has a different design with the air spring/seal on the inside of the stanchion I believe, so damage to the outside does not cause leaks.
  11. Looks like a bargain to me but I ride an enduro bike so I'm in your target market which is small in SA. I think the new market is also very slow right now so maybe just hang in there for a while longer.
  12. One thing to point out you definitely don't need a R300k bike to ride those XCO courses. A modern R60k alloy XC bike with vaguely decent suspension would suffice. Alan's crash happened at the very end of the last lap when he was probably a little smoked, also having spent a bit of time on the road. Its far easier to crash when you're exhausted. MVDP doesn't really have that excuse in this instance.
  13. Okay back to MTB skills school for MVDP and Gaze? Pity AH faded at the end. Awesome rides by Luke and Candice. One of the best races to watch for a while.
  14. Nah, he's been out the xco loop for too long. Spesh boys are going to harpoon him...
  15. We did a similar loop of 27km from Kylemore parking lot and paid R100 ea. We rode up the side of the road to the top of Helshoogte and then crossed the road to the old pass, down the tar to the pipe tunnel and onto Botmas that way... No gate codes needed on our route.
  16. The view from the brekkie and beer stop after your ride...
  17. The stuff we rode would be quite rideable on any bike but the sketch factor would be far higher. With a proper bike and descent tyres and brakes you can ride that stuff properly and have fun. I think the corners and flow are far better than anything at Tygerberg. JH is more comparable. Stoltz and Turvey were involved in some of the tracks at Banhoek. Skyfall is cool but pales abit compared to the descent we did. Follow the Sky Traverse until the end and take the last descent which is about a km or more after the start of Skyfall.
  18. Belt drive gearbox and high pivots are the new black. Tight moto twinsies are all the rage, even when the snow is falling.
  19. Headed out from the Southern burbs with our trail/enduro bikes to Banhoek with a friend this weekend. My mind is blown and my enthusiasm for MTB restored after riding some of the best built/fun tracks you'll probably find anywhere in SA. This area had fallen off my radar after some initial rides a few years back where we did the Skyfall and Boschendal routes. On the Botmaskop side, the tracks are amazing. The climbs are generally at a reasonable gradient bar a few steeper sections and the options to descend back to Kylemore are amazing. The descent we chose was chock full of steep bermed corners and a few kickers - superb. Later we joined the bottom of Skyfall and encountered perfect jumps and some gnarly rock gardens with a steep ramp towards the end. After a mild slog up the valley we did the Nik Nak climb and descended the Cobra back to the car. That track has amazing step down jumps, wooden wall rides and a step up near the bottom. The last flattish section of perfectly sculpted jumps and berms is a total blast. Cant wait to get back there. STF and the builders have done amazing work. Stellies has so much on offer I'm fantasizing about moving there...
  20. So next round of the XCO is this weekend - and MVDP is going to be there. Should add some spice to proceedings. I think he'll have a hard time with Koretzky and Blevins and maybe a few others... DH this weekend was pretty epic. Coverage was a bit better than last year and the new streaming platform is a big improvement over last years buffering rubbish. The new format with Q1 and Q2 for those that didn't make it in, and no protected riders is great.
  21. Its been there since 29 April 2025. About mid page below the big map. If you scroll down further it shows a list of trails, all of which are marked in red - closed. Reading is one thing - seeing is quite another 🙂
  22. I am TF admin for Tokai/TMNP and you can add the greenbelts and the rest of TMNP's trails to the list of updated trails. The whole of Tygerberg is alo on and updated. Its a user generated app so next time you head out and ride a cool trail why not add it and their admins will approve it. I do it when I head out and ride some far flung places. It'll stay useless if nobody makes any effort to update it.
