  1. I dont think its the chain ring but from what I'm hearing from you guys more likely a really dirty chain, there were some heavy mudbaths on the ride. once I put the lube on the chain suck went away, the chainsuck only happened on the small ring with incline so I wasnt changing gears when it happened but the transmission was really muddy at the time. My next question is are their lubes that handle the mud better, I always use squirt and am pretty particular about how I apply it so I can only assume that either the chain needed more running in time or the lube was not up to it ?
  2. I did the lourensford and after the first mudbath, I had chainsuck about 4 times before my new xt chain, gave way and broke. I repaired it with a powerlink but it continued everytime on the steepish inclines. eventually I asked around at a waterpoint for some lube not sure what type but it wasnt a waxed based like squirt, the chaisuck never came back. I did two rides before the race with the new chain, cleaned the chain and gave it a good lube What causes chainsuck- the mudbath or what I have searched the forum with no real answers to my query.
  3. quick7 has a brand new rp23 if you are interested he is a bike mech and could help you with advice he works on my anthem plenty.
  4. when I had a fox rl used to run it at 85 psi
  5. 1OOKG ON ANTHEM1 FRONT +125/-105 PSI ON A REBA TEAM FRONT BACK 185-190 PSI BACK
  6. Rudy project Rydons have 2 pairs you wont look back you can run, ride play golf and you dont look like a dork if you wear them leisurely either, CWC best prices get the Photocramatic ones...
  7. I've run with mountain king 2.4's great for down single tracks but a bugger when climbing they dont seem to roll very easily and they sap your power, be carefull about going over 2.2 on the rear without checking it could be costly if it rubs up against the frame and also if you ride in muddy conditions. if there's no space the mud can scratch the frame. For racing I use a fastrak on the back and mezcal 2.1( normally on the rear) but it rolls so well and for racing has enough grip to be upfront, although want to try a captain control up front. for playing I run Saguaro back and front, both 2.2 and you can run them at low pressure.
  8. I'm still trying to locate the 24 spoke xt hub does anyone have one , the bikeshops and CRC are not getting back to me
  9. did anyone do the race on a ghost or a zula looking for some feedback given that its not that technical race
  10. The only thing required was a valve and stans I watched the tech fit the tyres the rim has smooth finish on the inside I can assure you they fully tubeless the 2009 has a rim tape
  11. The xt are good wheels but buy them new I used my amc's on Karroo2C and they were great they are fuully tubeless and the weight is 1480 as claimed no conversion tape etc required I do plan to get my xt hub replaced as they will make for good training and race wheels but the amc's are real beauties and the rear hubs spins effortlessly but for 2900 you couldn't be blamed for going xt
  12. yeah I had a Tora and put on a second hand fox rl 100 its a different bike you can run at much lower pressure and it is much smoother and plush, another big difference is to lighten your wheels either by lighter rims and/or tubeless, rotational weight cuts make a big difference
  13. I just bought a set of AM classics due to a problem with the xt REAR HUB the problem is trying to find a new hub for my XT's they are bomb proof but if you gonna buy them buy them new. I have only had my XT's for 6 months they were second hand and I was assured they had minimal mileage. The XT rim has a strange hub and spoke system . Spokes are also a bugger to come by. If you really cant afford the AM go XT but remember you will need centre lock discs so you're almost at 4k....do wanna buy mine with a dodgy rear hub good price !!!
  14. I managed to get a set of Ultegra for R6500 brand new couldn't find Force anywhere close that and I'm not looking back comfortable in the hoods changing smooth and precise I thinks its alot to do with proper installation and I hear internal cabling can affect any groupset, I'm on a Raleigh RC LTD and it looks great
  15. that air fork I am selling hasnt bottomed out on me the beauty is you just jack up the pressure to set the sag and you should be fine that fork weighs 1.9kg and strong as an ox I would always opt for an air spring if at all possible
  16. lloydkayak I have a tora sl air fork for sale when I was using it I weighed 105 kg the steerer length is 186mm and it has had minimal use unfortunately not v-brake compatible I'll start at R1600 if you are keen drop me a line (email) and I'll send some pics it really is in good condition I didnt use the bike much because I moved onto a dual suss quite quickly I'm on airsup6176@gmail.com
  17. Hi there I was in the same predicament I had a rockshock tora air shock as far as I'm concerned al that shock does is adjust the travel, it squeaked like hell. I have put a fox rl 100 on and it is a different bike. I can set the pressure much lower and the travel is plush( nice and smooth) If you do get a new fork you will have to make sure it can take a v-brake if you buy a second hand fork make sure there are no leaks and that the stanchions (the bits that move up an down in the leg of the shock )are scratch free also very important the steerer section must be long enough 235mm is usually a good length to start with buying a fork is tricky business best to get a mate to help you alternatively you could upgrade your brakes to disc ?? You wont pick up a bike with a decent air shock new for under 10 grand Fox is generally more expensive and more costly to service I also have a reba team which is a great shock got it brand new for R4200 any other questions I can try answer for you..
  18. I'm looking at aset of alex xcr pro wheels for racing only I want to match those rims with a light race tyre. I normally ride with xt and saguaros. any advice. I have scanned bike radar but want advice for local conditions I'm thinking spez captain on the front and a fast trak on the back. I would prefer 2.1-2.2 gauge which I dont think spez do ??
  19. definitely understand that I love my Anthem but I would like more relaxed head angle my bike is fast. I was doing Welvan pas with a mate he was on a trance in 10 secs of freewheel i am gone but the bike is a touch twitchy and has a few creaks I did a full service last year it cost 4 grand + and I promise you the parts fitted into a small sandwich bag plus there is a small bling factor my frame looks a little tired but appreciate the feedback its been great
  20. just out of interest I run xt with the geax sagauro front and back they roll really niceley I think my set comes in at about 3.9 kg with xt discs I would be interested once she is fully setup on a good and bads of the bike but if the chassis is good the engine can perform I'm between the the blur the zula and maybe the giant carbon I dont suppose you managed a test ride before you bought it would be a giant leap of faith not to
  21. what is the weight of your bike as is, she is a beauty
  22. the Blur is food for thought are their any agents in Cape town, if you dont mind me asking how much was the good deal for the frame only you can pm me if need be
  23. what model santa cruz ?? As long as I can keep my anthem weight to a Zula I am using a reba team and full xt and wheels considering elixir cr brakes as xt seem abit pap on the long downhills definitely no 1 finger braking I weigh 100 kg bachk to the frame any bargains out there on a large frame
  24. Thanks siggie those are quite hardcore wheels do you have a weight for them compared to xt wheels, how do you think it compares with the epic alu bike. do you reckon your bike feels as efficient as the anthem when climbing. I'm no racing snake but every bit helps
