  1. After seeing the physio you can also try sports massage the couple times I went before and after the Argus the mass.. (cant spell that) commented on how tight my ITB band was. In the apr ride mag there are one or two good stretches for the legs and joints also a tip she gave me was to bath in epsom salts to loosen the legs up but first get it checked out by a decent physio
  2. I saw someone advertise a set of juicy 3 brakes for 500 bucks and you could pick up a set of wheels probably with tyres and rotos for just over 1000 bucks so looking at your prices you should be able to get both xt hubs are allright as long as its not the 24 spoke straight pull version great wheels but as Paleodom said they need tlc I would have been able to help you out with brakes and wheels but out of country for a few months you will find it easier to go hydraulic brakes and then match a decent wheelset, nothing wrong with going second hand on the wheels and you have the hub to ask all the questions you want
  3. ther is a big difference between an Anthem and the trance the Anthem is more racy and suited to XC and racing stages where the Trance is more suited to all mountain although you could race but the suspension would sap plenty energy out of the ol pins I'm 100kg and 185CM and the anthem is well comfy then there is the new 29er anthem which is excellent value at about 25 K I tried the Merida but the ride is hard and pure XC lap racer more suited to the snakes havent tried the scott but the setup looks very merida like try test a bike on a trail its the best way the parking lots doesnt help ask a bud to let you have a ride if he is the same size try not make an emotional purchase the merida had buy me all over it but I had to be honest whenn I felt how hard the ride was ..
  4. Wayne I have a fair amount of experience with Hyperbaric treatments (HBO) to get the most benefit you need to be at elevated ambient pressure to allow the tissues to absorb more 100% - O2 O2 is a wonder drug and highly underated but am not sure the average Joe will feel its healing effects as a pure recovery method, its very effective in wound healing and with broken bones The other thing is its quite expensive from an equipment point of view and the manning by qualified people and a doctor to oversee progress gone off the beaten track a bit but I reckon you get the jist there is loads of info about all of this on the web There are units scattered around the country and good to know where especially if you intend diving on nitrox or tri mix
  5. generally the dif between the x1 and x4 will be the spec I expect there could be a weight dif of at least 2.5kg due to spec the biggest dif will be the suspension feel as an x1 has top end shock and fork, lighter and plush compared to the x4 so to be fair there is a big difference betwween the x4 and the x1 I was 104 kg on the Anthem 1 and can do all the single trak in Tokai CT there are some fair size drop offs but one should be carefull the anthem is a race bike a guy your size should keep well clear of carbon the other bike to look at is the spez stumpjumper very comparable to the trance at the moment you might find a good buy on these 2 due to the 29er calling to be fair if you become a time bunny and want to start doing the odd race go anthem and keep your VT to play with if you do go anthem consider the 29er you will be pleasantly surprised and they are excellently priced there is a guy on the hub selling an XL, which I reckon is your size, for R21000 that is a give away considering the spec if you have the moola
  6. Alligator make an adaptor so that I could use my avid g3 disc on my xt wheelset in fact I have two still in the packaging they cost about 210 bucks each and they are super light I think CWC has them I got mine from my local but they generally need to be ordered the reason I got them was I found the Avid rotor was about 0.2 mm thicker and it made a huge difference when setting the lever believe it or not Also you find DT swiss make plenty centre lock hubs so they are quite handy when you want to fit superlight rotors which are generally 6 bolt I found. those were my reasons for getting them...
  7. I have an Alliante both on road bike and MTB I used to have the saddle tilted slighty forwrd but after reading a few posts I have it spirit level- level and it is even more comfortable because there is no chance of sliding forward and so the sit bones are always in the correct position the Alliante is also made for less supple guys there is a weight penalty as they weigh in at about 260g but you wont feel a 100g on the Alliante but you will feel 100g on an uncomfortable saddle
  8. watching the playback of my gopro clips i notice that on quicktime its a bit jumpy using media player it seems to slow and on windows media player the colour is all fuzzy anyone have this problem and is there a better program to use to get perfect payback. I am using a Sandisk card
  9. I was in the same predicament I went for a new setup and stretched myself out by 2cm so moved saddle back 2cm and also had saddle raised about 6mm all this was done using the ergofit system I found on the 29er I was a bit cramped even though the main triangle appearrs to be identical when measured up to the 26 I would say I feel a bit racier but more comfy, been doing a bit of road riding for Argus so feel I can stretch out more and definitely better on single track because the weight is back a bit more I do a little time trial up the wapad ( hence the name ) on ou kaapse weg and definitely quicker and more stable especially on those tricky sections that are so loose at the moment but then like a bullet down hill I took that wide bar off and using a WC carbon noir with slight rise and sweep and 63cm wide nice thing about that bar is that the oversize section is lekker to hold onto when grinding on flat sections almost like a tt position did you see how many people were on the Anthem 29er for the epic you bought the right bike thats for sure I also went from the Saguaro 2.2 to the spez fast traks 2.0 and they rolling nice an easy, I run them a bit harder at 2.0 bar as opposed to the Saguaros which have more volume so can run them lower I had a bottle cage on the seatpost but it jumped out once to many times nothing worse than reaching for a bottle and there is nothing there here is the beast for a large sitting just over 12kgs without any real cash outlay
  10. Hi there I have gone 29er and have a 2008/09 large anthem frame pivots just serviced rear shock is rp2 I will sell you the frame with rear shock for 3 grand included will be the xt crank with race face rings and the brand new chain for 4 grand will include xt rd fd and shifters I have plenty other bits and bobs to sweeten the deal this is an excellent frame and has 3.5inch travel my bike has been serviced locally and if needed I am sure they will provide any ref needed this is a give away price if you want pics email me airsup6176@gmail.com or 08244 555 12
  11. I started on my 29er with Saguaro 2.2 front and back its quite a large volume tyre use to run them on my 26 the Saguaros are now well scrubbed so gonna play with a set of 2.0 fast traks obviously a lot lighter, this bit of rain will just pack down the trails and firm them up in Tokai and the wapad, couldnt believe how sandy it is in certain sections been on the road and kakked off in the sand the last few days I ran a mezcal upfront once and ended up with a sidewall cut on the Lourensford last year so wont use them upfront again but the geax tyre is a great brand
  12. +1
  13. I was struggling to open the ads with internet explorer( not sure why ) so changed to opera but now cant reply to any ads when I reply and click on add comment/post the info is deleted and the post doesnt appear?? this only happens in the new classified section
  14. Hi Its me I told your dad that SAPO would be 55 bucks 5 working days (7kg wheels and box, I priced everything ) and a courier( speed services ) 250 bucks 1-3 days that did not include insurance cheers Darren
  15. my bike weighed in at 12.2 for a large with pedals and a heavier Alliante seat but lighter carbon bars and seatpost surprisingly bike weighs 12.5ish with conversion but using the heavier 2.2 Saguaro which weigh in at 760 grams each and used 3 scoops of stans per wheel I used rim tape and a valve and removed the inner green lining and one bomb sealed it goooood the wheels are well sturdy but must admit it is very smooth and the 10 speed XT is much better than my old XT
  16. So Just to confirm only rim tape and a valve with stans no rubber rim strips? that can save a few hundred bucks...
  17. Has anyone done a conversion on the giant 29er stock wheels using only tape and a valve, planning on using spez fastraks or geax saguaro's
  18. wapad

    seat angle

Thanks makes a lot of sense
  19. wapad

    seat angle

I have been playing around with my seat angle and was wondering what the optimum angle was At present I have mine tilted forward using a spirit level so that the bubble is halfway out of level if you can understand that any inputs my theory is that after sag the saddle is level????
  20. what type of powerlink can be used on the xt 10 speed as am assuming that the sram 9 spd cant be used I was told i had to use the snap on one that requires a tool to remove is this true
  21. Thanks for all the PM's seems there is a real underworld of wheel builders in CapeTown
  22. I have been doing a fair amount of research on wheelbuilding as I want a 29er set what I want to know given what I have been told if I rebuild the anthem 29er wheelset using the same parts ( so assuming it is tensioned to my weight and possibly stressed and retensioned) do I have a wheel that is as good as say a ZTR crest rim with hope pro 2 hubs and say dt swiss spokes, probably a touch heavier I understand that the ZTR set has superior parts but is the wheel as strong once it has the magic handmade touch put to it
  23. what is pina back-up service like and does it still carry a warranty you need to compare apples with apples at this stage I would be more in interested in the components carbon hardtail is going to have a racing geometry as opposed to a more relaxed geometry on the dualie there are a few giant anthems on the hub, these are great bikes if you are looking second hand And at the moment if you page back there are a few for sale prefferrably look at the 2009 onwards has abit more travel and a lighter frame in this instance I would choose the Giant hands down
  24. I'm sure the vote will be 29er HT perfect height definite racing snake potential if not then 26 HT the racing guys I know are all 29 er HT the only thing might be strength issues and bike handling which may be why 26 would be the way to go bottomline you would want a sub10kg bike at least, tricky in XL on a dual
